Anyone work as a nurse in or around NYC?
Starting to despair a bit here...
I am currently in my final year of a BSN program in Helsinki, Finland. For our last clinical practice it is strongly advised that we seek out a placement outside of Finland (our course has an emphasis in multi-cultural nursing). I have been trying like mad to find a placement in NYC (I grew up there and my folks still live there) or the surrounding areas, to no avail. I know that recent legislation has made it tough, but my school is quite open to compromise. As this is our last practice, they expect our skills to be nearly complete. We would not have to give primary patient care for example if it was an insurance risk, nor would we have to read charts if it was a privacy issue. The point would just be to learn about nursing in other environments. If anyone knows of, or is involved with a program that might be able to help, please send me a message. I would be most appreciative. Kinda almost out of options here so I thought I'd turn to the ever-helpful TFP community for aid. Basically any hospital I would work in would get a free volunteer willing to do anything involving nursing! Thanks for reading this far! |

I don't work in the medical field, but I know the White Plains Hospital Center and the Greenwich Hospital in CT both have volunteer programs. I don't know whether you've checked them out or are even interested in something in Westchester County or CT, but here are their websites and relevent pages.
White Plains Hospital Center Volunteer opportunities at WPHC Greenwich Hospital Volunteers at GH Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the info. Actually nearly every hospital has a volunteer program, but most of them are so structured that it would not work for what my school requires. Would kinda have to be more working in a ward or clinic. Thanks though!

My sister works for American Mobile. It's a traveling nurse company. Basically, she works for that company, and they find placements for her in different hospitals around the country. Currently she's working in New Jersey.
Im not sure if that would work for you, but it couldnt hurt to contact them. Good Luck
