Is anyone else thinking the same thing that I am right now?

I almost screwed up royally this week. One of our business units wanted me to go to their manager's meeting in Cancun and present some new research. Turns out that I can't go so one of the heads of the unit is going to present it instead.

I worked for a good week on this presentation so that anyone (even someone completely unfamiliar with the material) could give it. I sent the files out yesterday. Today, as I was looking for some information I knew I included in the presentation, I went to the "sent" email to retrieve it. Turns out I sent him an early version that didn't explain anything at all. He would have been completely stuck trying to figure it out.

The problem arose because I was supposed to get a new operating system on my computer this week and I saved the completed file to a shared drive so it wouldn't get lost but attached the junk version that was stored on my hard drive instead. I called him up to tell him and sent him the right file but wasn't sure if he had already left for the day. Turns out he thought I was trying to screw him by giving him nothing to work with. Sure glad I caught it. It could have wiped out all the work I've done over the last several months getting close to this department.

I worked for a decent sized company a while ago and was the only certified forklift operator there at the time. Well, we got this piece of freight in one time and it took up the entire width of a semi trailer but was only about five wide the other way. I'm trying to pull this thing out and its trickier that all get out because is starts hitting the edges of the trailer and gets all cockeyed. So I pull the old back and forth and finally get it to the point that its about to clear. (enter sinking feeling in gut) Just as I get it clear of the trailer, it rolls right off the forks hits the ground and barely misses a Camaro that was parked nearby. The jackasses that had shipped this thing had loaded the pallet so most of the weight was entirely to the left side of the left fork. They must have loaded this thing on a dock and didn't expect us to pull it out and lower it. Luckily one of the higher ups was right there when it happened and just started laughing his ass off which eased my stress level tremendously!

I was taking a CCNA bootcamp course the other day here at work. "tested" out some commands on our edge router. Well, dumb ass me. debug rip <enter>

bad mistake. Oh, this brought around 10K people to their knees. HEHEHEHE. Our data center (equipment) is about an hour away from our facitily here. Luckily I got ahold of somewhere there to power cycle that puppy. That sucked! Sucked bad....

Only thing I can think of was when I was taking a group of residents in the 15 passenger van out of town, and we were on the road to the place before we realized we didn't have any maps. We managed to get there by sheer luck :)

FONTANA -- The alleged gunman in a drive-by shooting was booked on suspicion of killing the driver of the car during the attack, police said Tuesday.

Passenger Richard Allen Eppard, 20, was firing a semiautomatic gun out the driver's side window Thursday when he shot Christopher Bonadiman, 20, of Fontana in the head, police said.

The car crashed and Eppard fled on foot. He turned himself in to police on Saturday and was booked for investigation of murder, police said.

"I would say that this is probably one of the stupidest people we've come across in a very long time," police Sgt. Mark Weissmann said. "But at least he was responsible enough to turn himself in."

Eppard, a Bloomington resident, had no criminal record before the shooting. He apparently missed whoever he was targeting during the attack, police said"

Well in 24 years, I have done a few.

My first job at a grocery store right out of high school, I was filling the egg case and had four cases of eggs on the dolly. Took the corner a little too fast and dumped them off the cart. Yep, 96 dozen eggs on the floor…1152 eggs, no survivors.

I have had a couple at my current job of 18 years at the newspaper.

One, I was unloading a semi of newsprint with the clamp truck (forklift type vehicle) forgot to check the height of the clamp as I headed into the semi trailer, caught the top edge of the building…took out about 12 foot of wall.

Two, which wasn’t entirely my fault…I was running a job on the press and there is a wash up bar that is held by two thumbscrews for cleaning the press, when not in use, the screws are backed off to pull the squeegee off the rollers. I was running a long job and the vibrations of the press caused the screws to back completely out, and the bar fell into the delivery chain. Tore the chain system out, delivery bars, and spun most of the teeth off the gears. Totally fucked up that press.

That’s about it…other than the inmate that escaped at the county jail that I got blamed for, but that’s another story.
