Colin Powel?
This isn't anything political, i was just wondering why instead of saying Colin, thats a regular Co-lin, everyone, even Australian's, call him Colon (sounds like your body part ie large intenstine).
I hvaen't heard one person, other than myself say Colin Powel. Does anyone else notice this? My mum says she doesn't understand this either. Has he brainwashed everyone into this pronounciation? if so, why doens't he change his name to Colon Powel? Just a little confused??? |

Colon Powel.. sounds like a gay porn star name.
I never really noticed this pronounciation you speak of, but I can see how people might mishear. I've always perceived it as being said "Co-lin", but I live in the US.

yeah, i´ve always found this interesting.
it does sound like Colon (or Cole-n)to me. and its not just the accent difference, since all of our media and politicians say Cole-n as well. just the way he likes it i guess. mind you, i´ve heard before that the way that Americans pronounce the names of their perceived enemies is a form of negative propaganda.... such as emphasising the sadDAM for instance... but thats just a theory i heard in passing at uni the other day.

Don't you think people have the right in general to pronounce their names they way they want to?

Yeah they have the right, but everyone calls him colon or colen as bundy pointed out. I thought he may like having some unique pronounciation because he thinks he's supremely unique.
I know it's stupid but it's just a means of a discussion.... Ever since he became more prominent on internaitonal and australian TV, namely in the leadup war to iraq and the whole weapons inspection thing, it had me curious as why everyone seemed to call him Colon or Colen and not just himself or one other group of people. |
