He came to Grand Rapids a few months ago, to speak to people less than a mile from my apartment. It was people paying something like $1000 a person to hear him speak. He flew in, drove the motorcade, visited some new health complex, gave the speech, and flew away. Grand Rapids taxpayers paid for the motorcade, while I'm sure all the funds they raised were kept.

Dick Cheney came here for the birthday party of Peter Secchia, who is this rich business man. Of course he had the G.R. police force protecting him, and of course the huge bill was covered by the taxpayers. It was a private function! He didn't even give a speech, but we had to pay for his protection. Meanwhile, schools here are closing...
