Warren Zevon Finally Says Goodbye
We all knew it was on its way, but it's finally happened. Warren Zevon has died after a much-publicized battle with lung cancer.
I know there are big Zevon fans on TFP so I will leave it to them to eulogize him. Whether you are a fan of his music or not, I highly suggest checking out the excellent VH1 special when it replays this week. It's an interesting, fascinating and odd thing to follow a man living on borrowed time as he records his final album and says goodbye to the people he loves. Yesterday on the subway I was reading a review of his new album The Wind. And for some reason, I felt like I was going to get home and find out he had actually died. I checked the news when I got home, but nothing was there. Turns out he did die yesterday, it just didn't make the news until today. Kinda eerie. Rest in peace. And to those of you who enjoyed his music or saw him in concert, feel free to post your feelings here. |
I truely have no idea who this person is, but I do feel for him.
My father had lung cancer (the super rare non-smoking caused one) that almost killed him, and still to this day its a daily struggle even after 4 years. |
The original Werewolf of London
A great talent R.I.P. |
That sucks. I haven't heard his new record yet - but now it'll be bittersweet.
He was a truly great songwriter & performer. |
A great loss indeed.

I listend to his Excitable Boy CD on the way to work this morning. I've had that album since it came out about 25 years ago. I knew this was coming but I'm still sad.
R.I.P Warren. Ahhh-Woooooooo! Werewolves of London. Huh, draw blood! |
He was incredibly talented and recently showed just how classy and courageous a person could be under the toughest circumstances.
He died as he lived, with a sense of humor and wanting to enjoy every moment. ...and his hair was perfect. |
sad day

(note to self: send lawyers, guns, and money...) |
Thats to bad...He was a great musician. Id love to make a sang referance, but the obvious ones are taken already...
RIP Warren... |
I wasn't a huge fan of his music, but I respected him as a musician. He always seemed to be the kind of musician who didn't let fame taint who he was. He always struck me as the kind of guy who you could approach on the street. Too bad there aren't more like him.
Listen to his cover of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" knowing he recorded it while on borrowed time. |
Time to Hasten Down the Wind, Warren.
I'll miss your guest spots on Letterman. |
I dont know much about him, but he died at too young of an age. I feel bad when anyone dies even if I dont know them.

bye warren........i'll send all the lawyers & guns, but i'm keepin' the money.

Anybody who could write and record "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" and "Mr. Bad Example" deserves to live forever.
Zevon wasn't afraid to write about the ugly and hard side of life, with wit and understanding; and when it became clear that he was to die, he faced his doom with the same wicked humor that was his trademark. Gotta love a guy like that. |
I might have to stay up tonight and see if Letterman eulogizes him.
