Good gift idea?
One of my good friends' birthday is coming up (20th Sep) and i was after a cool gift idea. It can be very general or generic, ie something anybody would kinda of like. Anybody get a cool gift altely that anyone could really like? As for price, somthing below $200 or so, i might do a chip in with some other guys.
Normally i get him a cd or a music shirt or something quite plain, so a any general cool ideas would be good if you have any? cheers |

Get him a good pocketknife. A Spyderco Endura or Delica with stainless steel handles makes an nice gift because you can have the handles engraved.
EDIT: Wait, your location says Australia doesn't it? Scratch the knife idea then...

I bought my best friend a nice knife and he fell in love with it. I dont get why being in Australia would change that either way.. call me naive.
Oh well.

My first answer was going to be porn but then I thought about it. You really have to know someone well to be able to pull off the porn thing. So maybe that might still work but...
Secondly I was thinking like a massage or something of that nature but giving a guy a massage or a day at a spa is kind of creepy unless the guy is, say... Rupaul. That's all I could think of. Sorry for being shit for help.

Whats wrong with mixing Australia with knives?
Not some crocodile dundee joke is it???? I think the knife idea is an intersting one though and am taking under consideration. I am not too sure about alcohol though. Although a nice bottle of something might be good, in the past in my circle of friends, its kinda felt as a cop out to get alcohol cause you just pick it up at the local store before the party or going out. And i don't think he's much of a wine conisuer (sp?) as back in year 11 and 12 he was well regardeed for introducing the "goon" trend amongst everyone Porn is a little dodgy, mainly becaue his girlfriend will then think i am a bit of a dirty bastard, even though she knows that i am generally clean and nice etc that might tarnish it. I don't really have much access to porn anyway, most of the "good stuff" is illegal in WA i think, though i could ship it from the east coast... @World's King i can't help laughing at the Rupaul comment keep 'em coming, but cheers for all responses so far. They're stiring ideas in my head |

One of my fav gifts to give someone thats a friend when I cannot think of anything else is simply just a coupon.
Free dinner pass for any resturaunt in the city. (Not to sure how this would work on the male side of things tho. I know I'd feel a bit strange, dunno.. *shrugs* ) Other then that, it'd help if you mention some of this persons hobbies.

A quick summary.
Likes: Sports: Basketball, Cricket, AFL (and other sports) Music: some metal, alternative and other stuff, but i don't really want to get anything related to music. Works at Coles which is like a supermarket/grocery store Studies business/marketing at uni although i was just mainly after a cool gift for a 20 year old good male friend (most males seem to be quite similar around this age ie sex, sport, music) Maybe a coupon to a spa thing for him to take his girlfriend as well wouldn't be too Rupual. |

I'd say go with the knife too, but remember the world we live in post 9/11 so make sure that it's something he doesn't carry on his keys or belt too often because I remember seeing a pile of Leathermans at the airport.

What about a trip to a kick-ass amusement park? Does he like rollercoasters?
Or a bottle of really good scotch.

lol, we don't have kick ass amusement parks in western australia (ie Perth) well not that i know of......
The closest thing would probably be adventure world, but thats a crock, compared to other places on the east coast and America. Although thats a good idea, i can't help laughing cause adventure world is so lame Also i don't think its open in the winter.... it does have a rollercoaster though..... |

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought even a pocketknife was considered a "dangerous weapon" under Austrailia law and was illegal. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

Best gift I ever got was an SOG serated dagger with a 6 inch blade, which was sharpened professionally after the fact (most new blades my friends have gotten don't seem very sharp to me, kinda irks me for some reason). One of my old roommates stole that dagger though, pooo.

Taser ... everyone loses a Taser. A regular sized tire rim for his vehicle. They always give you those stupid little spares, buy him a regular sized rim and tire.
