Washing hair?
I recently cut my longer hair, but have stayed in a habit of washing it everyday, becasue wuth longer hair it looked really crap when it wasn't washed. I don't fully wash it, only just shampoo, i don't know anything about this other stuff like condtioner (although i've used it to make my pubic hair smell nice )
Anyway, whats everyone else standard wash cycle. I've heard its a little unusual to wash everyday.... Anyone know any health benefits or anything esle, for optimum washing and cleansing and so on? also i hate these adds where they claim they make hair 80 per cent stronger and 50 per cent healthier... ahhh al these stupid graphs...... I wash my hair, if it still isn't clean, I do it again. I do it every day when I shower, and I'll throw in conditioner on occasion. I go between two shampoos so I don't end up with residue building up, and it fels better.

I wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner everyday.
How exactly is it bad for hair?

well when i had long hair i would shampoo and condition my hair daily. but now that i also have cut my hair shorter i have found that if you shampoo your hair and condition one day the next youjust need to shampoo the next day, to me if feels like it gets all the conditioner buildup outta my hair when i jsut shampoo

I shower and shampoo my hair everyday, I found that when it comes to washing your hair everyday the best thing is to rotate shampoo's....... I have around eight different kinds of shampoo and I use a different one each day, that way you don't get buildup from using the same thing over and over...... another thing I use is Hotoil, It makes my hair soft and shiny

Uhh, I thought everyone washed their hair when they showered... what else do you do? I have short hair, so... I wash my hair, put conditioner in, wash my face, then rinse the conditioner out. This gives the conditioner time to react and make the hair a lot softer, but you have to rinse for a good while to get all that buildup out. I switch brands every once in a while from the cheapass Suave stuff to that girly herbal essences stuff, and you can really tell a difference in quality, the Suave stuff sucks in comparison.

Dont have a shower, only a bath so washing my hair seems like a "extra" thing to do, while its sorta half way there anyway if you have a shower heh i dunno. But i wash my hair about every 3-4 days although i bathe every day. i dont have a particulatly active lifestyle and havnt noticed my hair being dirty/greasy or whatever and no complaints so im content to go on as i always have. When im stayin at a place with a shower then i usually wash it everytime i get in. Habit of bathing i suppose.

Man I guess Ičm the only one who doesn't. Well I have to now becuase of the gel in my mohawk, but for about 3 years before this I didn't becuase I have dreads. It sounds like an urban myth but it's true, if you leave your hair for two weeks, well it's greasy for those two weeks, but after that it's fine. The grease in hair is your scalpe trying to protect your head, when you wash it, your head produces the oils and crap to protect what you washed out. If you stop, then your hair stops producing the grease. And after that it's just normal. The dreads that you see looking really sick are eather A) shitty dreads, B) people who wash them every so often, that's probably the worst thing to do, or C) people who have just gotten them.
It's perfectly natural to just let your hair be what your hair is supposed to be, don't knock it before you try it, it may sound gross but really have you ever tried it? I did and it's great.

I shower and get it wet but I can't wash it every time or i won't be able to control it... I don't put anything other than water in my hair, and if i've showered recently my hair is incredibly soft but also very uncontrollable (and tends to just poof out). So I probably shampoo/condition my hair every few days.

Maybe this should be in Tilted Living or perhaps How-to?
First off a disclaimer: Hair can be a person-to-person kind of thing. Take this with a grain of salt, what works for some may not work for others. I am also a firm believer that there are certain things our hair is born with, one way or the other. That can have a lot to do with many things. So I have long hair. At over six feet tall my bangs and all go to my waist. I started growing my hair out in around 1986, so I have a bit of experience. I will not go into everything, but a few things I have found to be basic 'hair absolutes' if you will. Number one: Your hair is more susceptible to damage when it is wet. You should do as little as possible to your hair when it is wet. If you are going to be combing or brushing your hair out, do it before you get into the shower. And always start at the bottom and work your way up. Number two: Heat is bad for your hair. All kinds, whether it is a blow dryer or hot water. Keep as little heat on it as possible...ESPECIALLY when it is wet. I haven't used a hair dryer since the mid-80's myself. And I keep the shower water with as little heat as I can stand. Number three: Overkill does not equal 'better safe than sorry.' Those commercials showing people with foam going to their toes are an example of bad overkill. Use just enough to get the job done. When using conditioner never apply to the scalp, go a couple inches down at least. Let your natural body oils do some work, that's why they're there. Washing your hair everyday also falls into this category, but let's not start an argument :P. Ah, avoid products with a lot of fragrances and such, those ingredients can be damaging. Hmm, I think I will stop there. Just some basics, there is a lot more to be said. Jdoe |

What does conditioner actually do?
I've never used it on my hair (i think?), although have on my pubic hair cause it has all these interesting fragrances (all fruity and stuff) which smell really nice. Not that i go around smelling my crotch or anything |

I wash my hair every day. My hair is crap. I just got a shitty hair cut that really didn't help matters much...
I blow dry it every day, and I use a straight iron as well. Damage city. I'm tempted to cut it really, really short and start over, but I can't pull off that short hair look.

When my hair was longer, meaning just down to my shoulders, I used shampoo and conditioner every day. Now that it's short, I use shampoo once a day in the morning. Not only does it wash out the gel I used the day before but it also makes it easier to style in the AM.

I have also heard that it is not good to wah your hair every day but if I don't my hair gets really nasty. So I wash my hair everyday when I shower. I have really bad dandruff and I just switched shampoo's to see if that would help and it really hasn't does anyone know of anything that really works good and will get rid of all my white flakes?

I rinse mine every day, wash it about 3 times a week. Shampoo, Conditioner and all that other shit people put on their hair is pretty bad for your scalp - I avoid it as much as poss.

I notice a difference if I don't wash it every day. It loses it's shine, feels a bit heavier and sticky, and is harder to manage. I have short hair but wash and condition everyday.

Short-medium hair for a guy and I wash and condition every day. I really don't get any residue buildup from my conditioner, but notice if I go for a day or so without it gets oily/harder to manage.

so, it's damaged. therefore, i do not wash daily, rather every 3 days or so. always with baby shampoo (or the occasional treat - Aveda Shampure) and then i put conditioner in it. without rinsing it out. (acutally i usually put the conditioner in after it's a bit towel-dried.) i never use heat appliances on my hair. lastly - Quote:
but i can't go longer than 3 days tho. i like to be clean and not stinky (yes i do shower/bath daily)

I wash my hair every time I take my shower. As of right now my hair is still short enough that I don't have to style, it still falls into place, but give me a week, and that fun time will be over. I'm a guy that actually spends a lot of time on his hair. The reason for this, is because I have 1 and 1/2 cowlicks. One of them is terrible, and the other is a mini. It takes A LOT of work to get them to lay properly with the rest of my hair. Because of this I put is Mousse or Gel Daily, I prefer Mousse (and yes, when I get my hair cut and request that she put mousse in my hair, I get strange looks). Oh yeah, back to the question at hand... I wash my hair daily, because when you fill your hair up with Mousse, you can't just leave that stuff in and apply more.. Thats like adding another layer of paint on your house everyday for the rest of your life. Thus, Every Day for me. ('cept when I shave in to 3/8ths inch in the summer, just dipping my head in the water counts as a wash.. heh, so little hair )
