the diablo design team are partying

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/doc_o_day/doc_o_day.html

"SEPTEMBER 4--While we normally don't concern ourselves with speeding arrests, we're making an exception in the case of one Dr. William Faenza. The 35-year-old New York City man was arrested Sunday after Pennsylvania cops clocked his 1997 Lamborghini Diablo going a remarkable 182 mph on State Road 443 (a 55 mph zone). According to the below criminal complaint, a tipsy Faenza was not only moving at Jeff Gordon speeds, he was driving recklessly and sped away from pursuing cops. After getting stuck in traffic at about 6 PM, Faenza, a research chemist who was in the area visiting family, refused police orders to exit the blue sports car, but finally relented and "stumbled out of the vehicle." Faenza failed a field sobriety test, which cops administered after smelling booze on his breath and noting that his eyes were bloodshot. Faenza is now facing a variety of charges, including driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and reckless driving. (4 pages)"

wow... I would have died to see that!

That's pretty sweet. Well, not the endangering lives part, but going at 182 mph and controlling the vehicle that's making it so.

I was also fooled by the many meanings of "diablo"

But 182mph that's FAST!
I think he's crazy driving that speed, but it would be so cool to do it myself

Damn, 182 mph, drunk, and didn't die. Wouldn't the speeding ticket alone be 1200?

I think the cop is lying here. If the lambo was going 182mph, then it would have been beyond visual range of the cop before he could get his crown victoria into gear and on the highway. Also, weaving in and out of traffic at 182 is something that's pretty much impossible to do since all of the cars going the speed limit appear to be flying at you like mad. It's kind of like going 100mph, and passing a parked car.

Lets also not get to the fact that the cop would have to do 250+ to catch up to the lambo, and a crown victoria can only do 120+ if it gets lots of starting room.

Now, 82mph on the other hand, I might just believe.

it's called radioing ahead, nad multiple cops obsvr. I believe it, and it scares the shit out of me. drunks are dangerous at 25 mph, let alone nearly 8x that much.

Yea, that's one option I was thinking might possibly be the case too, but the way the report is worded makes me believe that the officer who filed the report was the one who initially observed the lambo, and then was the one who pulled him over. Notice the "this officer" wording in the police report.

Ok, I found a story with some more information about this.

http://www.mcall.com/news/local/lehi...llehighton-hed

Seems like the guy pulled over 2.9 miles after he was spotted by the cop, which is enough distance for the lambo to slow down (at 182mph it's covering about 3 miles a min). But then I don't know how the cop can say he resisted pulling over... I still doubt the cop would have caught up to him by the time the lambo slowed down, and for it to finally pull over after 2.9 miles.

*shurgs*
dunno what to believe. Will certinaly be fun for the lawyers.

182?! god damn they better take his license away and give him some jail time with bubba for that. If you want to go that fast you can always rent time at the local speedway for a hour, don't endanger other people...

i cant stand that. Personally, i think drink dirving should be mandatory 5yr minimum imprisonment, no parole. Same for speeds that high in traffic. Put em together and i think the guy should spend the next 7.5yrs rotting away with his big buddy of a cellmate. If anyone was hurt or killed, i think it should be mandatory 10yr minimum with mandatory life if someone was killed, with the possibility of execution.

That kind of wreckless disregard for human life should not be tolarated under any circumstances.

As for not catching him, police cruiser will be able to hit 120 without a problem. Hell, our minivan can do 118, and police cruisers are more aero and are modified for the department. Plus, have you ever heard of a helicopter. They can and will go faster than that lambo will manage. Plus radios. Radio waves travel at speeds that lambo couldn;t dream of going....

Classic example that when it comes down to Motor vs Motorola we all know who wins... Sucks for that guy. Don't Indy cars travel at something like 225 mph though? I thought I just read something about this in the stupid Target magazine we have sitting around here for some reason.

I used to hear stories about this black lamborghini diablo speeding up and down 684 at the wee hours of the night, 3-4-5am..It would drive with no headlights on so im assuming the driver had some sort of night vision goggles on. how badass would that be?

It finally got caught one fateful day where the policed laid down a spike strip or somethin...i think he was trafficking heroin & cocaine, or somethin else really nasty :-P

I have no real evidence of this, i've just heard stories.

Some of the staties in NY drive suped-up camaros. So its not all that impossible...but it would be quite a chase.
