Post Count Disappeared!

I don't know if this is (was) a temporary glitch, or an error at my end, but as of 6:45 p.m. CST, all post count information has disappeared from members' posts.

Did you get tired of us bitching about our lost avatars, Halx?

yeh i just noticed that too. I think that Hal just took them away from under our names (on the left). Because if you click on Profile your post count is there. It is kinda good like this because then you dont have to worry or want to catch up to someone with a higher post count.

I don't miss post counts.

I am thinking they still may be stored, but just aren't visibile.

Either way, I am thinking there will be less post padding now, even though it didn't seem like that was a huge issue here anyway...

There's a big gap where the number used to be. Is anything gonna be put in the post number's place?

Doesn't this require that you have enough posts to have an avatar first????

Although I did use that post count to see who the "regulars" are (if i haven't come across too many posts from that is).

I think that's the idea... this way the number of posts someone has won't give their ideas any more weight. Besides, you can get the general idea of how many posts someone has by looking at the title, just not the numerical amount.

I think it's a good move.

I agree, the count doesn't give any more credibility to a posters words, it just means that they post often. It'll be nice to judge people based on what they say rather how much they say it.

ok, but what is the procedure? Having never had an avatar here, I dont know. Does a moderator PM me, or what?

also, just out of curiosity, whats the deal on the titles (rookie, crazy, etc)? what are the corresponding post numbers to each one? and at what point, if any, do I get to chose my own?

Nice improvment..

Sion--you get them when you hit 250. Its just harder to figure out now. Not that much though. go to the main page, find your name in the alphabetical list of people online at the current time, click your name, and your post total shows up!

There you know where to go. It might be in User CP too somewhere.

Click on "profile" under any of your posts and it will tell you how many posts you have. Simple as that.

When you hit 250, you are automatically given permission to upload an avatar; you don't have permission until then.

Oh and I think it goes that if you accrue

50 posts = Tilted
100 posts = Crazy
250 = Avatar + Insane (or Psycho)
500 = Custom title choice

Am I right guys?

Then 500 = Junkie + Customizable title

I could have sworn there was a title inbetween Insane and Junkie.

Good Idea, I think....

But if this is an idea to curb the amount of crap posts, do you really think it will work?

Won't folks just go crazy til they get their avatar and custom title anyway?

I don't put significant weight on number of posts anyway, so maybe I'm just not seeing the whole picture.

Amazing how just not showing post counts totally changes the game, isn't it? Suddenly I'm not concerned about getting my avatar, and I'm not scanning for post-count to find out what I ought to read.

Now I feel like what I post should be a contribution, not a rip-off for a number. I feel like I can get to know people for their names and who they are, and not "oh, here's a 200, and that guy's only 15..."

This was a WAY good move, Hal.

yeah... well then it's going to be like what happened to me on the v3.0 where all of a sudden I looked up and there's THOUSANDS of posts by me from like 300 other people. Not that it's a bad thing... well maybe when you realize just how much time you've realy spent here.

As far as the post count goes, it was a controversy for the moment because Halx and Zerocool both were WAY up there. Why waste bandwidth, typing, and thought on something so infinitely small at this point in time when theres really more to bring to the table right now, like good topics and well thought out responses and discussions.
