I liked it the way it was

splck 04-25-2003 06:41 AM

no big deal...I'm sure it pisses the post whores off.

Troublebot 04-25-2003 06:49 AM

I fear change, but I'm willing to try.

If TFP has taught me anything, it's to have an open mind.

Cuball 04-25-2003 07:17 AM

i rather like to see the post count, but I'll survive :-)

MUSV 04-25-2003 07:18 AM

Hmmm, I did not notice the lack of posts counts. I guess that just proves the post counter's unimportance

Sticky 04-25-2003 11:33 AM

What happened to the number of posts indicator?

Here are some of the things that I think might have happened to the number of posts indicator under our mini-profiles.

- it got SARS
- Too many members making dumb posts just to get their post indicator to 69 and then not making any more posts .
- Year 2000 bug

What do you think?

laughter 04-25-2003 11:35 AM

I suggest that it reached the number that it had been trying to, and stopped.

It's gone.

Don't talk about it. The natives get restless.

ratbastid 04-25-2003 11:43 AM

The post count line is dead, long live the post count line.

Sticky 04-25-2003 11:45 AM

Oops. Sorry, I just noticed that there was already a thread about this.

Stay and post in this thread if you are lazy.

Well, it was always a welcome way to track my time that I've spent here. However, from the first time I started here at the TFP, after reading the charter, I always wondered why there was a post count at all.

Well said. :)

Jadz is right. I think this'll definitely help make posts better! Thanks, guys, for all your hard work, and thanks to the other members for your quality posts!

Will this lead to

...

less

...

padding?

SM70 EDIT: For the most part, yes. Not only that, it won't stop me from deleting posts by people who pad like I just did with yours ;) Granted, I know it was just a joke, so I'm not actually upset. Just making a point.

4thTimeLucky 04-25-2003 12:45 PM

hahahahaha

Edit> Damn, couldn't get in in time. :(
I'll get you next time Mango.

Frosstbyte 04-25-2003 03:14 PM

I'd rather have them back. I'm clearly the minority in this one, so I'll take a back seat. It was an easy thing to index, and it'd be nice to be able to at least see your own without having to check your profile.

The post count only matters in that it is what determines what little perks you have on the board - Avatar etc. I don't know what other determning factor could be used to allot these little perks that now come based solely on post count but I do know that post count isn't the best. You can spend a great deal of time working on a single post. It doesn't matter if you are posting boobies or giving your solution to all of the world's problems. If the post is worth anything at all it took time - sometimes a great deal of time. When you have finished writing or accumalating pictures, edited it so you don't embarass yourself by plastering your ineptness right there for all the world to see, and then hit the magic submit button, it took time - for that time you received 1 post count. The jerk that opened it and left the reply "i'd hit it" got the exact same post count as you did. The next one that typed in "nice!" - He/she also got the same post count. Post quality and not quantity - it will all come with time.

OU812 04-28-2003 03:13 PM

I'll admit to being one of the posters that worked on numbers (mainly to keep from being booted!). Towards the latter part of the V 3.0 board I tried to concentrate on quality rather than quantity. This time around my posts are all about quality. I try to contribute something in each response. :)

Eviltree 04-28-2003 07:13 PM

not my numbers! AUGH!

dvorak 04-29-2003 08:08 AM

I'd rather have my DONOR back. Oh well, I guess this site is worth another $2.00...

I think Halx is working on getting the donor status back but it is low on the list of things that are needed right now.
*sidenote: This site is worth a whole lot more then two bucks but if thats all you have we appreciate it.*

G_Whiz 04-29-2003 10:21 AM

I do hope that Halx is going to be able to put up the donor tag again. I was prouder of that than I ever was of my post count.

My only concern with the post count is when I get my avatar back. That will come, so I only check my count every day or two. I don't get the chance to post 100 times a day, so it's not that big of a deal.
