TFP Meeting Helsinki Finland Oct 17
Skogafoss and I are going to Europe for our honeymoon. For those that don't know I proposed to her in Iceland in front of Skogafoss Waterfall in November 2000. We were planning on getting married in 2003, but some things like 9/11 brought that date much closer. We wed on 02.02.02. Honeymoon was delayed one year because I had gotten laid off.
Life this year has been much better. We bought a place in Manhattan, and move in just under 24 hours. October is Honeymoon month, we spend Oct 12 - 18 in Ähtäri http://www.ahtari.fi/wwwroot/suomi.gif We are also planning on going to Salzburg, Austria and Malaga, Spain. If anyone has any suggestions for places to visit, must sees, places to eat, etc. It would also be much appreciated. http://tfproject.org/tfp/showthread....threadid=25111 I am looking for suggestions on places to visit in the area and also would like to see if we cannot meet up with some of the Finnish connection of people. I'm not familiar of a location to meet on October 17, but with the help of BuDDaH and others, I'm sure we can find some place that works. |
if you have not been to helsinki, i recommend going even if there is no meeting, it is quite a gorgeous city
|
One of the best ways to dine in Helsinki is at the Russian restaurants, many of which are below ground in the basements of buildings.
|
Make sure you count me in dude. I will be there! Beautiful city? I dunno about that. I think it's ugly as sin. They used to use manu parts of it for sets when they made movies that were supposed to take place in Russia. Copenhagen, Stockholm, those are nice cities. To say nothing of course of the rest of Europe. Feel like bringing along some Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla with you? The coffee here sucks. If you get stuck for a place to have the meeting I work in a bar, the owner of which owns 2 others bars. I'm sure I can reserve enough spots in any of them for the amount of people sure to show up. Congratulations by the way. The wife and I got married in May and took our Honeymoon in NYC. Married life is GREAT!

ok stockholm is stunning, but i think helsinki is far more gorgeous than copenhagen... with the wharf and the grassy walk with all the vendors straight to it... and those two old churches right by the water... great place
|
Point taken! I suppose in 5 years I have just become jaded. I forget how beautiful the city is because I see it all the time.
|
Tallinn is much prettier :)
|
I don't think I'll be able to get to Helsinki but wish I could... I was there two years ago today and had a great time...
Maybe I can convince the money people that I need to do another sales trip... :) |
I'll be in Iisalmi around mid - November if anyones interested.....*cough..Suviko...cough* ;)
|
I would definately go...but do to school and funds shortage it's a no :( sounds like it would be a nice vacation though.
|
Cool... :D
Should be in Helsinki around middle October. Definitely interested. Helsinki is beautiful (lived there for 3,5 years and now preparing to move back). All the best with your marriage! |
Well thats going to be fun.
I lived in Helsinki for a couple of years and Ive also sepent a lot of time in Vienna. So things to see: Esplanadi ( the main street in Helsinki is Gorgrous) Make sure to go into Capelli , its in the middle of the street and is a wonderful and beautiful old coffee house. You can also stop in to Kampi and admire that beautiful Hotel , the bar is especially nice and all the best shopping is around there. When you get done its a short walk down to the market . You can also take a ferry there to Suomenlinna .... Now that is a must (remeber the ferry will accept a Tram ticket) Let me say it again Suomenlina is an absolute must. Fair enough Helsinki does look a little like the poor mans St Petersburg but it is nonetheless quite stunnign for its architecture and wide streets. Have a look at teh Orthadox Cathedrals whiel you are there. Tallinn is another must. It takes just 15 minutes by helicopter and when I was there it was only about $100 to do that. Sure beats taking the drunken Finn booze cruise ferries. In Vienna make sure you get to the restaurant on the top of Leoploldsberg. Also you have to check out Hofburg , Schobrun and the Zoo , head up to the 19th district and while away the hours in a Huringer. Also slightly off the beaten track is Oberlaa , its a marvellous Hot Spring / health spa where you can easily spend hours and hours. And you might enjoy watching the Lipanzer stallions training. Im outta time here but I'll let you know of any onther places as I think of them http://www.hel.fi/tourism/html/esitt...ism/index.html |
I think I would go if it happens.
|
If I still lived in Finland, I'd consider it... But really, I've always hated Helsinki....has the rudest people and the traffic's just crazy.
