Cheering for the wrong things.

Has anyone else started to cheer for the bad things that are going on ?

I found myself wishing that the black out would have lasted longer, and that some of the nat. disasters that have just happened or are going on would be much much larger.

It's not like I want to see people get hurt or anything like that, I guess that tv has become a little boring.

I'm reminded of this:

I'm sick and tired of my generation getting blamed for the state of the planet. I'm sick of my generation getting called the TV generation. "Well all you guys do is watch TV." What did you expect!? We watched Lee Harvey Oswald get shot live on TV one Sunday morning, we were afraid to change the fucking channel for the next thirty years. "This show sucks." "Yeah, but somebody might get shot during the commercial. Now hang on!" - Denis Leary.

i was actually cheering for el nina. seeing the rain and the flooding of my school that came from el nino, i was hoping that el nina would be as bad as the media said it would be, but nothing.

i used to find myself wanting something to happen because life has gotten so boring when compared to tv, but then i realized that i live in so. calif. all the excitement i need is just on the nearest freeway. that and i realized that all my loved ones are here, hence many people's loved ones are here. i wouldn't want anything to happen to them, much less the loved ones of others.

I have a sick sense of humour as well. Baaa, dying is a bit over the top though, You'll probably never meet anyone more morbid then me, but I can't cheer on dying. Anyway, ya I'm a distructive person, sometimes I really really enjoy smashing things. Let me tell you though, if you need an exciting hobby: Civil disobediance. That or drinking hard liquer alone in your room.

Man, this is a depressing thread. No, I don't wish natural disasters or other things that harm humans would last longer or kill more......unless they deserve it, that is.....I have had enough or tragic events in the past few years to last a lifetime. I have lost enough of my own friends and family.

Put the remote down my friend....put it doooowwwnnnn......

I find myself hoping for high infrastructure and property damages, i.e. with the tornado that hit my town a month or so back, but I don't ever really wish for human losses.

i often find myself cheering louder at the football (or really just the tv screen), when theres a bit of biff.

i know, deep down, that people shouldn´t encourage violence in sport, but when one of your guys takes it upon himself to show a member of the opposition (which you invariably hate during the game) a close up of his fist... well, it does raise the adrenaline level... and thus cheering ensues.

i know its bad... but without evil, there can be no good, so it must be good to be evil sometimes...

Your “bored” with TV because the bars been raised. With all the huge catastrophic shit that’s happen over the last few years things that used to be big / exciting are now small in comparison and all most common place. For example the guy that walked into the auto parts store he was fired from and killed all of his former co-workers. When I heard that on the radio, I didn’t give it a second thought…..as if that was normal!! If that happened 10 years ago it would be a HUGE deal……now, it just gets a 10 second spot at the end of the news. So, I don’t think your “bored” so much as you are just becoming “numb” to the events that should shock and appall us. Does that make sence?

and then you scratch your head when you have to pay higher taxes because of FEMA payouts...

in the end, destruction of property has to be paid for by something. I used to think that it was neat to see senseless destruction of man made items by mother nature... until I watched the WTC towers fall. I used to think completely differently on 9/10

I'm not looking for death or inj. to anyone but I was hopeing that the blackout would have lasted for a few days.
I would like something BIG to happen ...like Greenland shift its location and get jamed between Brasil and Liberia.
Something big enough to make you sit up and say Wow that was cool.
How about a sink hole that drops Nebraska 50 lower then it is now.
Not that too many people would notice that but you get the idea.
yeah.. the blackout.. read my journal... I walked about 10 miles that day. oh what fun that was. friends i know slept on the sidewalk because they couldn't get home, yeah, their kids loved not seeing daddy or being able to talk to him on the phones.

Nebraska dropping 50 lower... would be devastating...sewage, water, power, telephone....

WTC happened with my mother in law standing below it. There was nothing cool about the images she has nightmares about.

Something BIG like that happens all the time.. ask the people who live near volcanoes. and if Greenland moved like that.. we'd have some SEVERE problems that would kill or maim people.

I work hard for me and mine. I don't want to have to give it up because some idiot wants to see something on TV.

Freakin' watch the movies.. that's what the escapism is for. jeez get a life already.

Go stand in Grand Canyon....stand under a Sequoia... on the Adirondacks... Snaefellsffjokull Glacier... see what mother nature creates and realize how incredibly cool that is.

I started to cheer when I heard that we were getting"bombed"... then stopped quickly as I realized/saw on TV how it happened (planes into the WTC), that the civilians were not at fault for the our goverment's lies, etc... though I still secretly cheer for and hope that we will continue to be blasted in our face for the death we've brought to many others...*flame-retardent note: I don't cheer when innocent people die (random plane crashes), I only hope for a balanced world...

I also cheered when I came on TFP just now and saw that I had full access again... whoop!

I don't have a sense of humor when there is senseless distruction that decreases the amount of money that goes into my wallet.

the blackout will cost billions in infrastructure upgrades and who do you think is going to foot the bill? the consumers...

WTC and other terrorist type things.. means increased security at airports around the cities, paid for by? the tax payers....

watching an avalanche that comes down a mountainside with no town in it's way.... great... i'm all for it.

watching a flash flood in the desert... incredible...

Hekla erupting in Iceland... amazing....

seeing the yellowstone fires a number of years ago started by lightning... awesome.

but when you talk about wanton distruction that potentially injures or harms people and is going to decrease money I can spend. I find no humor in that.

give me a compelling reason and i'll agree with you..

Reframe from calling my friends an idiot, please. You’re lucky cyn has more patience than I do.

If you are so fuckin bored that you want a catastrophe go join the Peace Corp or jump out of a tree and study your injuries or some such.

When my mother woke me to the WTC attack I had an adrenaline rush for a moment at the thought of ‘war’. I think it is very natural. Adrenaline was soon replaced with sorrow, though, then absolute amazement not in a good way when twin tower #2 fell in.

I am trying to not get too pissed cuz I have felt the same in the fact that ‘life is boring’, but wishing something that can harm/kill many people and/or animals for your amusement is fucking disgusting.

Hell if someone has such dark wishes maybe keep em to yourself. There’s a shit load of people who have lost friends and/or family due to such things we may find interesting. I’m no innocent bystandar. I get bored easy. But I don’t go next to cyn and say ‘you know it would be cool if that happened again’.

Think.

PS: sounds like you have major desensitization and that is a badbad thing. Turn of your tv before you rot.

When the Blackout happened there was a huge interruption in the AMOUNT OF SPAM i got for about 4 days. Damned right I cheered !!! I was very happy that atleast someone was getting their due return for misdeeds.

BUT!!! Then I heard about a young Power lineman from Great lakes Power in Ontario who died from exposure.. after a serious accident that happened while working.. the black out caused an unnecessary death. It was a very sad thing.

The Lineman had lost both of his arms an one leg in an electrcal accident and his body was unable to cool itself in the heat of the blackout. He died in his apartment from hyperthermia.

it was a sad sad day for many ....
