Yeah, too much automated last-minute bidding, too many shills. I never buy there. I hate auctions anyway; it's just another way to pay too much for something for the sake of convenience.
But if you are looking for a good retailer dealer in some particular fieldof used or collectible merchandise, surfing ebay is a great place to find them. Then you go to their regular website or private email address, and do your own deals on the side without the middleman. |

I go in phases. If I'm not in a hurry for something I'll try for it on eBay. Once I get it though I'm stuck in rut. I'm so used to checking eBay I'll start looking for something else I want. End up getting 3 or 4 things at a time before I stop again for a while.

it seems the addicting part is the last-minute bidding wars that take place on the crappiest goods. if you get several people interested in your item, somehow it no longer becomes about how much this crap costs in a store, it is about who is the fastest button clicker.

I'd battle with bouts of ebay addiction, and conversely, extreme poverty. These days I'm much more reserved when it comes to bidding, but I do like to check out the deals every so often.

Well, I'm only interested in ever getting a couple things off eBay, but it sure is far more fun to look for those items and find good prices, etc than it should be. I think it's a bit like the rush that one gets from gambling.
As far as those bidding wars you all speak of? I don't understand how that's a problem anymore. I'm fairly new to eBay, but I use proxy bidding all the time. I simply enter the highest price I'm willing to pay and IMMEDIATELY after someone bids, if my high price is higher than their bid, it bids for me.

I just sold some stuff that was useless to me, and got 75 bucks for my auctions the other day. I'm getting ready to start listing a dozen golf balls per auction, for around a thousand balls.
It can't be a bad thing if I can make money there by selling stuff I pulled out of a river. |
