EBay - Too Addicting?

EBay is too addicting for me and many others I'm sure, is anyone else here addicted to it?

Kaos 08-26-2003 02:48 PM

Never got addicted to it...but I can see how it can become a problem for shop-a-holics.

I usually go by one simple rule....If I can't afford it, I don't buy it.

Bamrak 08-26-2003 03:14 PM

It used to be better a few years ago before everyone used a bot to bid in the last 30 seconds of the auctions.

eBay + 4 AM + being bored = bad, bad news for me.

Adog 08-26-2003 03:31 PM

Yeah bad place to surf when bored....... !!

Rodney 08-26-2003 03:36 PM

Yeah, too much automated last-minute bidding, too many shills. I never buy there. I hate auctions anyway; it's just another way to pay too much for something for the sake of convenience.

But if you are looking for a good retailer dealer in some particular fieldof used or collectible merchandise, surfing ebay is a great place to find them. Then you go to their regular website or private email address, and do your own deals on the side without the middleman.

I go in phases. If I'm not in a hurry for something I'll try for it on eBay. Once I get it though I'm stuck in rut. I'm so used to checking eBay I'll start looking for something else I want. End up getting 3 or 4 things at a time before I stop again for a while.

When I started on EBay, I had lots of money at the time, and bought like 10 items...

It's crazy...

Quietus 08-26-2003 04:34 PM

It's still a really good place to find things that are difficult to locate in normal stores or have been discontinued and that kind of thing. Like all other things, it should be used in moderation :)

absorbentishe 08-26-2003 06:45 PM

I have to keep my wife away from there, she will spend literally a whole day there, looking for? I tend to think, the next page will have something I need, and rationale that for an hour or so.

Cobalt_60 08-26-2003 10:20 PM

Not addicting to me. I found a few items that where discontinued or out of print.

End User 08-26-2003 10:23 PM

I have to say that it is a great time waster....although, I have scored some mega bargains on it!!!

sambocom 08-26-2003 11:46 PM

it seems the addicting part is the last-minute bidding wars that take place on the crappiest goods. if you get several people interested in your item, somehow it no longer becomes about how much this crap costs in a store, it is about who is the fastest button clicker.

bermuDa 08-27-2003 12:54 AM

I'd battle with bouts of ebay addiction, and conversely, extreme poverty. These days I'm much more reserved when it comes to bidding, but I do like to check out the deals every so often.

Kaydron 08-27-2003 05:00 AM

I'm normaly trigger happy on the buy/bid button on Ebay..........

Hello my name is Henrik.... I'm a addict......... Hi Henrik.......

rogue49 08-27-2003 05:07 AM

Never been on there on purpose.

If I do go there, it because unmarked link has sent me there.

I just have no real reason to go there.
I don't buy things over the internet anyway.

Don't know why, I just don't

sbscout 08-27-2003 05:31 AM

addicted at times...

bored at others...

and no, I'm not in denial... I AM NOT! j/k

SecretMethod70 08-27-2003 06:35 AM

Well, I'm only interested in ever getting a couple things off eBay, but it sure is far more fun to look for those items and find good prices, etc than it should be. I think it's a bit like the rush that one gets from gambling.

As far as those bidding wars you all speak of? I don't understand how that's a problem anymore. I'm fairly new to eBay, but I use proxy bidding all the time. I simply enter the highest price I'm willing to pay and IMMEDIATELY after someone bids, if my high price is higher than their bid, it bids for me.

theinfamous 08-27-2003 08:43 AM

the addiction phases usually comes and goes....i'll get addicted for like a month, take a few months off, then find something new to search for

I just sold some stuff that was useless to me, and got 75 bucks for my auctions the other day. I'm getting ready to start listing a dozen golf balls per auction, for around a thousand balls.

It can't be a bad thing if I can make money there by selling stuff I pulled out of a river.
