What would you rather be doing - career wise?
OK, I did a search, didn't see this topic so apologies if it's been done.
What career would you really like to be doing but for whatever reason will probably never be realized? For me, I always fancied myself an airline pilot but wore glasses all my life and that limited how far I could go. But now there's laser surgery and the FAA doesn't care if you wear glasses, however, I have a family and starting over just isn't an option. What's your story? Always wanted to join the circus but you're an office manager instead? What do you really want to be doing? Last edited by i_t_man; 08-25-2003 at 05:34 PM.. |

Oh man, anything other than my job. I'm a secretary, and most days I do nothing. Nothing at all.
I'd love to raise race horses. I think that would be incredible.

I love my job, just think I might have went into it head on a bit early! I'm a Mom and that to me is an awsome job!
As for what else I would like to be doing: I would love to be a photographer..after learning how to make use of a camera like some of the folks over on the photography forum. Awsome pics! I would also like to be some kind of graphics artist. Learn photoshop and quark and maybe get into advertising creating ads. I have also always wanted to be a teacher, because I thought it would be great to mold the minds of tomorrow, but now that I am a Mom and have gone through school myself...I think that kids are better left to mold their own minds...seems to accomplish a lot more for them...and I don't think I could settle for book teaching either. So maybe run a non-profit place for kids to learn about things but in their own ways....be able to provide monitored areas of study and be able to offer whatever help I can for them to accomplish something...does this make any sense?? Hope you get what I mean! So yeah..that's what I would love to be doing...but I will concentrate on my own family for now! Who knows...one day!

I think i'd like to be doing anything that only required me to work 6 months out of the year. Six months of work, then six months of play... mmmmmmmmmm
We don't have a lot of time on this earth! We weren't meant to spend it this way. Human beings were not meant to sit in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day... filling out useless forms... and listening to eight different bosses drone on about mission statements. |

personally, i'd be a recording engineer, or a live engineer... something in broadcasting... it's alwasy intrigued me, but my fucking career counsellors back in high school steered me in the wrong direction and now i'm stuck in a rut. i live a block from the school that would open up all of these possibilities, but i can't afford it. what a waste.

Selling ultrahighline exotics (Bugatti, Ferrari Enzo, Lamborghini, Pagani, Maybach, RR, Bentley, Koenigsegg, Vector, McLaren).
I'd also like to own a Lexus/Acura/Infiniti/Porsche dealership. If I couldn't have those jobs, which i am working towards, I would apply to be Bill Gates' "Official Money Spender"...

I'm very luck -- I love my career choice. I'm a teacher.
However, the district I'm currently with has me teaching Kindergarten and being a reading specialist. I'd MUCH rather teach middle school!

Jokingly? I'd like to have Michael Baroni's Job: "Finding Penthouse-owned pictures required some hands-on investigative work. I had to be familiar with the entire Penthouse-catalog of photos and models, and I proactively surfed the Net in search of kidnapped images." -- Penthouse Copyright lawyer Michael L. Baroni. I mean come on, who wouldn't like their job description to include hours of surfing. The only down side would be all the "tubgirl" and goats.ex sites you'd be forced to peruse as well.

I'd like to be a city manager - always thought I 'd go into politics - probably on the local level, but I just don't want to run for office. It's too intrusive and you have to make to many promises you probably won't be able to keep. But as a city manager you can effect real change and help improve the lives of people on a daily basis. If teaching paid better, that would interest me.

Well, when I was younger, I wanted to be someone like Indinan Jones, but seeing as how I'm a female and there is no Temple of Doom, that probably won't be happeneing anytime soon.
My career that I'm studying right now however, is performance, so I'm pretty much already trying to do what I love.

To be totally honest I would rather work with children who have been abused and miss treated by their own parents.
I would like to take their fear away and let them know that they can be themselves without getting the shit beat out of them. I would like them to know it's ok to ask dumb questions, because there is no such thing coming from a child. I want to give them a hug when they are scared, and let them know everything will be ok. I would like them to know that just because their parents are pieces of shits, not all adults treat children badly or hit them because they are just there. Most of all I want to help them lose their inhibitions and fear of the unknown, to grow, explore and follow their dreams that they can do ANYTHING they want in this world as long as they just try. Yea......thats what I wish I could do
