Sometimes I love my job...
I am bartending while I finish my masters degree. It provides me with the flexibility that I need with an internship and my class load.
So I am working the lunch shift today (I bartend at a large food chain...it's name is a day of the week and isn't Ruby Tuesdays), and who should walk in but Zoe Britton and her sister. Who's Zoe Britton you say? Well, if you frequented the TB before it went into hiding, I'm sure you saw some pictures of her. Or if you've checked out Danni's Hard Drive or DDGirls through some of Candyman's love or through proper means, I'm sure you've seen her on there. Needless to say, it was a good day. She is extremely nice (and short!). She was in town performing at one of the local clubs. She gave me passes for her shows tonight, but the wife isn't into that kind of thing...so no show. Oh, and in my opinion, she's better looking in person than in her pictures. Anyway, to make this an interactive post... Who famous have you had an encounter with, either while working or out and about? |

Sounds like fun...althought I haven't been around long enough to know who you are talking about!
I have seen two of our local news anchors in our little slider joint in my 10 years working there. It's been so long I can't even remember their names...but I know I have seen them. They weren't really anything special to be honest...nice and all...but not like aww inspiring Glad to know you had a fun day Oh, and did she know who you were?? I am guessing yes because she gave you tickets..but hey...gotta ask anyways!

Hey hey - I get to see those girls before you see 'em on the titty board, so nyeh!
Just kidding, I have a great respect for bartenders. They have a slightly more respectable clientelle.

Maybe it's because Zoe isn't a HUGE adult model like Aria or Jenna yet, but she was extremely down to earth...and naturally beautiful.... Now if only I could meet Erica Campbell.... |

Erica Campbell lives a bit north of you... I cant tell you where exactly, because it would be hell for her if I did, but I will tell you now... she is nowhere NEAR humble.

I work at a mexican restraunt thats name is a horrible pun. And since its a bit upscale, and in an upscale area.. I get alot of KC Chiefs and KC Royals players in there all the time! ( I don't always get to wait on them though...) For the most part they are all very very good tippers
Outside of work.. when I was probably 7 mo, my mom was all alone with me traveling from Dallas to Chicago (cause we were moving.. ) and she need to tie her shoe in the airport.. she asked the person next to her is he would hold me for abit while she tied her shoe... She looks up, and its Danny Devito! So, I was held by Danny Devito for about a minute when I was itty bitty woot! |

I grew up in California in the SF area. To make a long story short, my uncle (through amateur hockey connections) became friendly with Charles Schultz. When my sister got hit by a car, we were visiting her in the hospital. The door opens up and in walks Charles Schultz. Apparently my uncle called him and asked him to visit. He stayed for about half an hour, drew some cartoons for my sister and then left.
I also stood behind Robin Williams in line at a grocery store but felt too much like an idiot to say anything to him. Now, living in Columbus, our biggest brush with fame is a local newsanchor who lives around the corner from us in German Village. Columbus isn't exactly a destination spot of the rich and famous.

Porn stars, just wifey from Wifey's World - as covered in http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...threadid=22565
Other stars: Shared a flight with Sinbad once. Ran into Lou Ferigno a few weeks ago at the deli where I get lunch. Literally bumped into Celine Deion on the streets of NYC five-plus years ago. She's friggin' short!

The closest I've had to encounters with famous people on the job, would be at my current job as a board operator at a country radio station. I run the computers during remote broadcasts, and occasionally, our DJ interview some really big name acts. Although we're not in the same room, it's almost like talking to them, since they'll ask for specific songs, and I'm the one handling requests. Hard to explain I guess. Specifics: Ricky Van Shelton, Aaron Lines.
Just out and about: Fran Drescher.

i worked at a dunham's sporting goods in metro detroit while in high school. one night, barry sanders came in with his wife and child and they tried on roller blades and skated around the store. i talked with him for a second, he asked me where the bathroom is and i told him. i wasn't about to do the whole "fan" thing, i thought it would be inappropriate. seemed like a nice guy.

i worked at a great concert bar in e. lansing, mi in the mid '80s. got to meet henry rollins when he was still w/black flag, did coke with anthony from the peppers.......thing about hanging out with these guys late at night was i could tell that the people they met from night to night on tour were kind of faceless to them, they were just continuing their roll around the country. a different kind of grind: rock out, get drugs & booze, sleep (maybe), drive, repeat.

Used to be a small-town newspaper reporter/photographer. A reporter and I were out doing the "Man in the Street" thing where you ask a person a question and post their response along with a picture.
We were in the local KMart while asking the question when we ask a guy with his little daughter. After I took his picture, I ask him his name. He said "Mark Farner". Like an idiot I ask him "THE Mark Farner, from Grand Funk?" He just laughed and said "Yeah." I talked with him for a while, told him I was a fan. Didn't ask for an autograph though. He was pretty cool. Also had lunch with Ernie Harwell. See this thread for that story.

I met Tiger Woods while cave diving in Florida. Seemed like an okay guy. We were in and out of the same caves and dive shops around the same time for the whole weekend. Everywhere I went I heard "Do you know who's here?" There were people basically stalking him. Beginning of the weekend (when I first met him) he seemed pretty happy. By the end of the weekend he wouldn't even get out of his car (Buick Rendevous of course). His buddy ended up doing all the work of getting tank fills and all because people were constantly on him. I actually felt bad for him.
I was on the same flight as Brian McKnight. I was stopped by security to go through my bags on the ramp to the plane when another security guard came running to the gate to tell the one's that were supposed to be checking my bag that Brian McKnight just walked by. They proceeded to run down the ramp to try to get a glimpse and never checked my carry on. Pretty funny actually.

I bartended in London as a student at a little back-street pub in Notting Hill. Frequently saw actors in there (mostly of the British persuasion). Also served Charlie Watts and Eric Clapton.
The most amusing incident was getting to throw out a cousin of the Queen for being a drunken asshole. These days I'm a music photographer, so meet musicians all the time. I'd say 90% of the musicians I work with are extremely pleasant and professional, and know how to have their picture taken. |
