Vigilantism #2. GOOD JOB!
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,95527,00.html
BOSTON — Former priest John Geoghan (search), a convicted child molester who was accused of sex abuse by more than 130 people, was apparently strangled to death in prison Saturday. Joseph L. Druce, 37, a fellow inmate at the Souza-Baranowski facility at the state prison in Shirley, Mass., assaulted Geoghan just before noon, said Worcester District Attorney John J. Conte. Geoghan died at 1:17 p.m. after being taken to UMass Memorial Health Alliance, Leominster Campus, Conte said. Preliminary indications are that Geoghan, 68, was strangled, Conte said. An autopsy will be conducted Monday. Druce was sentenced to life in prison in 1989 for murder, armed robbery and other counts. He was placed in isolation following the attack on Geoghan and will face murder charges, Conte said. In addition, Druce was charged with mailing a threatening packed with white powder and indicating it was contaminated with anthrax in 2001. The incident happened just after lunchtime at the correction center, located about 30 miles northwest of Boston, Department of Correction spokeswoman Kelly Nantel said. Geoghan had been held in protective custody to keep him away from the general prison population, but he still came into occasional contact with other inmates, Nantel said. Geoghan was a central figure in the church abuse scandal (search), which broke in early 2002 with revelations that the church had moved him from parish to parish even though authorities had been warned about his behavior. The scandal exploded after a judge ordered the release of archdiocese files involving dozens of priests, showing repeated examples of the archdiocese shuttling priests to different parishes after claims of sex abuse. Geoghan often targeted boys from broken homes, winning them over through frequent visits or fun outings. One victim said Geoghan molested him as the two were driving home from getting an ice cream cone. Others said Geoghan molested them after visiting their rooms at bedtime to tuck them in, sometimes while whispering prayers. Geoghan was convicted in January 2002 of indecent assault and battery for grabbing the buttocks of a 10-year-old boy in 199. It was the first of three criminal cases against him. He was sentenced to nine to 10 years in prison. In civil lawsuits, more than 130 people have claimed Geoghan sexually abused them as children during his three decades as a priest at Boston-area parishes. In September 2002, the archdiocese settled with 86 Geoghan victims for $10 million, after pulling out of an earlier settlement of about $30 million. David Clohessy, national director of the Chicago-based Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, said what made Geoghan's case more "than just a single case about a single predator" was that it revealed the corruption in the church. "In many respects, Geoghan is not the pivotal figure, it's the people who he wounded and still came forward and the bishops who enabled him but were finally exposed," he said. Mitchell Garabedian (search), an attorney for many Geoghan victims, said he was "surprised and shocked" by Geoghan's death. "Many of my clients would have rather seen Father Geoghan serve out his time in jail and endure the rigors of further criminal trials, so that his pedophile acts could have been exposed further," he said. The Rev. Christopher Coyne (search), a spokesman for the Archdiocese of Boston (search), offered prayers for Geoghan's family. "Upon hearing the news of the tragic death of John Geoghan, the Archdiocese of Boston offers prayer for the repose of John's soul, and extends its prayers in consolation to his beloved sister, Kathy, at this time of personal loss," he said. Geoghan was defrocked in 1998 at Cardinal Bernard Law's (search) urging. Law stepped down as archbishop of the Boston Archdiocese in December, 11 months after the release of Geoghan's files. Ralph DelVecchio, a Geoghan victim who settled with the archdiocese last year, said Geoghan deserved prison, but didn't deserve to be killed. "I wouldn't say he deserved to die, you know?" DelVecchio said. "He was in jail — that's where I believed he should be." DelVecchio said he didn't wish ill on Geoghan. "It's over with," he said. --------------------------- i am tempted to send Druce a Thank You card. finally, justice. no more redemption for that motherfucker. Mr. Druce: :icare: :icare: :icare: :icare: :icare: :icare: :icare: :icare: :icare: :icare: :icare: :icare: :icare: thanks to my bud ogre840 for pointing this out to me, also |
the weirdest thing about this, is that me and Z were having a good discusion on this earlier today...
good job on making that sick man a bitch! lol |
It's too bad it wasn't a sexual assault too.
|
I hate to wish ill on anyone.
However, I'm glad the community is not paying for his imprisonment anymore, they've paid enough for this man. I guess it's time for this priest to meet his Maker. |
For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. -James 2:13
I wouldn't go to the extreme of sending Mr. Druce a thank-you card; but if I were a juror, I'd have a hard time voting to convict Druce for murder in this case. |
Another death...
|
yeah... so the preist got punished.... but to say congrats to a death seems a bit harsh to me
|
when i saw this in the paper this morning, i almost expected to see it in the "just deserts" thread...maybe it's there; i'll get to it eventually...
|
I saw this article last night and I'm glad this piece of shit is dead.

what was vigilantism #1?
|
happy that he can't do it again is one thing, but happy that someone MURDERED him.. is an entirely other subject.
But again, without these act of Vigilantes, people will know the law and know what they can or cannot do (AKA get away with). But with these Vigilantes, people will fear a bit of doing some things, as you never know who the next vigilante is.... I'm just kinda mixed on how I feel about all this. |

one thing I always think about when it comes to people like this priest is, punishment in a case this severe is simply wasted funds that some people need.
i have no need to punish him, he did nothing to me. but he's using tax money and i could personally use a bit more help. and look at all the priests who have gotten away and fled to the Vatican. this was done well. now the courts can't fuck up. (oh yeah, i'd not open a return card!:) |
Yippee. The people that he molested are still not better off. His death didn't undo anything. So being happy that he was killed is a false victory.
|
Ok, so on one hand, the bastard's dead so taxpayers are off the hook for his free ride.
But on the other hand, is his death an easy way out? He no longer has to live with the difficulties of prison. While granted prison life is not as difficult as it should be, it still isn't a cakewalk. |
The killer, Druce, was a neo-Nazi. If he gets the chair for this, it'll be two for the price of one.
God's getting economical... |

  maybe i'm wrong but i think most nazis are extreemly vicious to child abusers. that can't be a coincedence... ---- tin: I agree kind of. but if god exists, well, believe me, he aint comfortable. and the above person who says the victem is still hurt: you are 100% right except if we show no more mercy for molestors and kill e m people may be able to control their urges a bit more? |
ok- so it doesnt help the victims, but ya gotta admit it feels right

if it felt terrible, to me, it would be the right choice. this is the thing: it sends out a semi clear message that says "Touch our children and you will fucking die." if that is said and proven, then maybe, just maybe things will get better. and if not I am wrong and we lose some sick ass pedophiles. it is no loss. |

This whole conversation scares me a lot. I feel that it's important to care for the victims but at the same time an injustice was done when the preist was murdered. (even if it feels good to see him get what he may deserve). The problem is that sexual abuse carries such a deep hurt and can effect the behaviour of the abused so severly that it must never be tolerated. and at the same time the man who killed the preist is now guilty and damaged because of the act he has performed. There are no winners here. even the victims end up as losers when this happens. especially if they "get off' on the death of their abuser.
It's a sad sad thing when this happens |
Ok, so this might be a little revealing about myself, but I was molested as a kid. I wasn't penetrated, but it was close and it was one of the most uncomfortable and memorable (in a really bad way) moments of my life. I hate to admit that I wish ill will on anyone, but this mother fucker deserved it. I am tired of hearing all these stories of molesters hiding behind the veil of God, using that as a backbone for their pedophile tendencies. These men are the lowest scum of the earth....right there with rapists, wife beaters, murderers, and the like........He is in hell now, being fucked up the ass by the devil and I hope the devil has a huge dick!
|
According to his own religion his in for one hell of a ride
