I live in downtown Toronto right now and it's about the last thing on my mind. We've had some lucky first years who had their final physics exam cancelled because some SARS suspect broke quaratine, went to class, and then everyone got their exam cancelled. My friend's Mom is a nurse out in Scarborough (a suburb), got quaratined, and is now back at work. For me, it's not really a big deal. Something to take note of and not be stupid about, but not life halting.

Live in Taiwan. My friend's area is supposed to be isolated. Kind of sucks. I bring a mask when I go by taxi, bus or the subway.
I'm not worried though. the whole thing's overrated. It's just annoying. My area may be isolated too, soon. One guy in this part of town died from it yesterday.

Just some facts:
Death rates: influenza- 1% pnuemonia- 13% SARS- 20% smallpox- 33% SARS has no quick screening test, no vaccine, high resistance to common disinfectants, can live for up to 24 hours in the open air, can live up to four days in waste, has a high ability for mutation and is easily transmitted from person to person. Has anyone considered that the reason we don't have to worry about this is because the WHO, CDC, etc acted quickly and deciseively? Yet in spite of their best efforts SARS has spread to 23 countries around the world. I am gald it was "overblown". Now I can rest easy, even though I live in Asia.
