How ‘bout a nice Rack?
…Audio Rack that is!
I need suggestions for a decent looking and strong audio rack. The problem is that I have a big (read deep) Denon receiver and two 400 disc CD carousels. These CD players are about 23” deep so a rack with a backing board or a rear center spine won’t work. I could move one of the carousels into my wife’s home office system cause that’s where she listens to most of HER music, so the rack doesn’t need to be that tall. Open sides and back are preferred because the receiver and sub amp get mighty hot when watching DVD’s loud. Color preference is all silver, but silver legs with black shelves would work too. Wife says “No glass or wood toned shelves!”. OK then…casters would be nice too since this stuff weighs a ton when it’s all in the same cabinet. I started looking at www.racksandstands.com and if anybody has any good experiences with certain models or vendors then I’m all ears…and eyes. I’d like to keep the cost at or under 300 bones B/4 shipping. Thanks…Norm p.s….I’m replacing my entire storage system because we got a new TV (her idea) and now my wife sez that our present stuff looks outdated and ugly. I’ve been lurking for ideas at websites like www.avsforum.com but these people are insane about this kind of stuff. I just need some thoughts from real people. |

I had the same problem and IKEA fixed it right up
http://www.ikea-usa.com/webapp/wcs/s...ts=10104*10170 Try these out they are great little storage shelves. What I did was buy about 12 of them and stacked them one on top of the other on two walls. They store my CE's,videos, and DVDs just fine. Might I also suggest some tea tight holders that IKEA also sells.....they look really cool lit up at night in those shelves. If you stack them make sure you stack them off center of each other...they look better that way, or you can just screw them to the wall I'd show you a photo ..........but I don't have one

my very thought when seeing this thread title was of my stereo system - interesting but can not say it surprised me.
my 200 disc carousel/tape deck with digital display/receiver/LP player are all stacked on my desktop where they are close to my soundcard's external breakout box. |

You might consider building something if you've got the time, tools, and motivation. I haven't built an audio rack But did make kind of an entertainment center for my consoles, dvds, tv. A little MDF for the majority of the rack, some mahogany veneer, and two weekends made me happier then the previous two weekends I spent at stores looking for something I liked.
