What is your school known for?

Almost every college is known across the country for some reason or another, aside from academics. What's your college's special thing?

I go to Skidmore, in Upstate NY. Aside from having some of the nicest dorms (#6 in the country, Princeton Review), we're also #1 "reefer madness" in Princeton Review's party category. Also, I believe my school ranks somewhere in the top 5 "Playboy's hottest college".

Anyone else have some fun college facts?

GremlinDelirium 08-19-2003 09:47 PM

I think WSU was #18 in party schools by Playboy 2002... but yeah, this school is known as the party school in Washington :)

Mine is known for its excellent Broadcast and Communication Arts department (working on a major for radio and televizzle -- er, I mean televsion). And the Film department is also rather impressive. It's also know for paving the way for Ethnic Studies.

The guy who does the voice of Homer and others graduated from NIU. I'm not too sure about anything else.

Iowa State University- I guess we'd be known for the last men's basketball coach going out and partying it up with the young folk.

bermuDa 08-19-2003 11:46 PM

CSUS: in the top ten for most hot ladies *_*

and for having herds of chickens roam the campus

MyUni is apparently a world leader in Egyptology.
btw, collide, what college are you at (i´m interested in American Schools for communications).

PulpMind 08-20-2003 02:06 AM

previously... Ohio State ... you tell me... best known for "Beer! Pussy! Football!" .. only one of which I could ever really get excited about =P

currently... Shoreline Community College near Seattle... which, despite being a comm.coll. has one of the BEST Audio Engineering programs in the country, especially on the west coast...
one of my teachers is the main songwriter for that ol' band Heart :D

Cool! I know a friend who'd be interested in this study.

San Francisco State University

If I'm still there when you get the chance to enroll, drop me a line some time! Hopefully I'll only have another year until graduation. *cross fingers*

SecretMethod70 08-20-2003 11:14 AM

My school is known for having one of the best theatre, music, business, and law departments in the country.

Unfortunately, the rest of the academic areas are less than desirable, so it's a good thing 95% of my classes are in the music department or else I'd get bored really quick

Oh yeah, and we USED to be known for an awesome basketball team

EDIT: Forgot, we're also rated by some review (I think USA Today or something) as having the happiest students and as being one of the most welcoming to diversity.

mirevolver 08-20-2003 01:00 PM

I go to Arizona State University, and according to Playboy magazine, we're the #1 Party school in the country.

Our frats also made a porn video a couple of years ago. not sure what it's called, but it was professionally made through a porn company out of Los Angeles.

UC Santa Cruz. Known for having a banana slug as its official mascot, being anti-traditional sports (ultimate frisbee is the big sport), and basically being a good place to score some bud from your RA and trip out under the redwoods.

holtmate 08-20-2003 06:22 PM

University of Cincinnati - Known for criminal basketball players, and that's about it...I don't even think the Engineering program is that great anymore. I could be wrong, though.

<img src =http://www.ranke-heinemann.de/australien/bilder/uni_foto/uts.jpg>

if not that, maybe being the only uni in which the "grass bit" can be used to uniquely identify a section of the university. (see those trees at the bottom of the picture? thats it. there are no more grassy areas at my uni).

Failing that, perhaps its the only uni with a vertical travel time.

Failing all of that, the glasshouse bar perhaps ;]

miked10270 08-21-2003 11:38 AM

The thing that my school is known for (at least to me) is the fact that it no longer exists :)

For all you folk out there who hate school, hang in there - One day it'll get demolished and you can dance on the rubble :D.

Though I do not presently attend, Ohio State is known for rioting after football games. I had a friend in California call me after the riots in Cincinnati following the shooting of a black man. He also saw footage of rioting here in Columbus that same week and was asking if we were also experiencing civil unrest. I told him that our riots were the result of football game. Yeah, we've got our priorities right on.

bernadette 08-22-2003 01:30 PM

butler university (indianapolis) has a well known pharmacy school & a fairly well known music school + a big greek scene.
