how many of you fill out, or look at the user profiles?
 

I was just curious about this one, as I have been since I started visiting web forums regularly.

I like to fill out at least my date of birth and location, if not more. I think it adds a bit of personality to you when you post. If you say something that seems a bit silly, and someone looks at your profile and sees that you're eight years old, or twenty eight years old, they know how to take it.

I personally do check out user profiles every once in a while. Usually it's to get a bit of BG about the person i'm hearing talk through their post. But the thing is, very few people actually fill out the profile at all.

So my question to you all is do you even bother looking at other people's profiles? and do you fill yours out?

Yes, I look at other's profiles and yes, mine is filled out.

I think some people don't *bother,* but others are bothered that their anonymity might be compromised if they said too much about themselves.

I like to click the *search* button under a post, when I'm really curious to find out more about someone. One's posts reveal quite a lot.

Yup, I noticed that most people don't bother until they've reached the Tilted stage. I usually don't look at everyone's profile, but I do check out the ones from people who post something interesting on a regular basis.

I both read and fill out profiles. I have my real location in my profile if anyone cares to check it, but my outward appearance is themed.

Personally, I just don't want people knowing too much about me. I mean, there are 26,000+ members on this site, and most of them are lurkers...you really never know what type of people some of them might be. :hmm:

My profile is blank becasue I don't have anything to say.

I check out the profiles anytime the person says something that gets me thinking or interested. Helps me get a better understanding of where the person is coming from and what factors may have influenced their opinions...

When I join a forum I will usually fill out my date of birth, my location and my website url.

I look at the profiles of interesting people, or if I want to figure out what gender a person is. I also almost always visit the websites of other posters, but there's a button for that here without viewing their profile anyway.

Yeah i filled mine out.. but it's not verry often that i look at others though. It just doesn't seem to be that many that writes anything there.

Given the nature of the internet, people can dig up everything they ever wanted to know about me, and possibly more, with enough effort and know-how.

So I say, what the hell? Might as well be a bit more human-like and fill out my profile. If someone recognizes me, I'd love to hear from them.

I fill it out, mainly for kicks. But I must leave, adou (sp?)

I just like to pretend I'm someone else and check out my own profile.

I hardly ever read em, but I did fill my profile out at one time or another....

I fill the parts that I think are somewhat revelant. Might fill the rest someday..

I didn't fill mine out too much to begin with but I think I may add more later since I'm actually feeling like I'm more a part of the community here now :)

nope and nope... no real reason why...i guess cause i joined during the old days of titty board i never really thought about the community aspect of the tfp and didn't care to much if others checked my profile... but maybe i should now do something with it after finding more to life than porn and music on the web!!!

well the answer has now changed to yep and nope..but nothin much to say really so a bit disappointed with myself :(

I don't fill mine out because they're looking for me. I don't want them to find me here.

I mainly don't; I go by what people say, not by their age or location. Occasionally somebody will say something that's inconsistent with the mental image I have of them, and I'll look at the profile for some kind of reality check.

By the same token, I haven't filled out much of my profile. Judge me by what I say, not by name or birthdate or location or job.

Haven't filled out much in my profile other than my bday. I think I will end up filling out more after I move and get settled in. I typically tend not to look up profiles.

I haven't really looked at other profiles. Mine isn't really filled out either. Maybe I'll add to it.

I fill out some of mine...I really don't check other people's, though.

and i love reading other profiles... i think they´re like this special (if only a little secret) little bit of added info, that you only come across when you do a little bit of research into someone who piques your curiosity.

I filled in as much as i feel comfortable letting other people know about...but i also dont really look at other peoples

absolutley the way i feel about it. it's not a matter of wanting to know everything, or to learn about the poster to a depth, it's just learning who you're talking to.

in a real life, face to face conversation you have the tone of someone's voice, and their physical appearance to guide you, perhaps subconsciously, in the way you percieve them. with a web forum, i think something like a user profile replaces that lost info.

I file mine out but sometimes I feel that a person could tell to much to the wrong person. . . ya know?

i fill out everything falsely. My account with my ISP isn't even in my real name. I use friends' names or make 'em up when I can. My electric bill is addressed to Gnonulan Conagerachtnen. My real name first and last combined is two syllables.

I rarely read other peoples' profiles.

I have filled mine out, and I do check other posters' profiles. This is a community, and I like feeling as if I know the other members. I feel a little bit for the folks that are too paranoid to truly join and let the rest of us know something about them.

But that's just the evil talking.
