I may be asking for trouble here, but I think you all missed the point. She is 8 years old. She's dressed and made up to look older. She goes for jobs that would otherwise go to models who actually are older, rather than her who just looks older. Nowhere in the article did it say anything about nude modelling or anything even close to child pornography. The only reason she can do this is that when make-up and hair is done right, in the proper lighting, she appears older. She isn't being sold as the "8 year-old you'd love to fuck", she's like a child actor playing an older role. A little messed up, but not the end of the world.

That's what the "heroin-chic" look is about. Not only are they turning an 8-year old into a sex symbol, they are also turning her into one that looks like she is on drugs and hence will be an "easy target", and then selling the picks to the asian market.
