Baseball hits bird, player could face charges
LINKY
I could give a shit less if this guy would have cut this birds wings off. It's a bird for christ's sake, not a baby. If he gets fined or gets jail time for something this dumb I'll go nuts. Get some drug dealers off the streets. Punish parents who beat theeir kids. Lock up drunk drivers. Put OJ in jail. Fuuuuuck! This is driving me nuts. Let's worry about dumb shit like this when we do a better job of taking care of bigger problems. Quote:

Well, if he did it intentionally, as it says he did, I don't really see anything wrong with a fine of maybe $100 or so. Still, anything more than a fine is a rediculous punishment.
|
I don't support animal abuse at all. People that abuse animals are sick bastards IMO.
If he did indeed intend to kill the bird, that pisses me off. But then again, hunting birds is practiced all over this country. And I look down on that too. Whether he should be fined or not isn't for me to determine, but it does say something about this guy's character based on his actions, and IMO he is a lesser person for doing what he did. |
He's got nothing on <a href="http://www.ebaumsworld.com/birdball.html">Randy Johnson.</a>
|
I'm not a big animal rights activist but WTF? Why crash a baseball into a defenseless bird? I think the guy should be fined for animal cruelty. What a dickhead.
|
Did the bird sue?
That's stupid. |
He needs a small fine and a corrective slap. Jail time for killing a bird is ridiculous.
|
If he intentionally tried to kill the bird I could see a fine. I mean there was no reason to attack a bird for no reason. But as was allready mentioned anything more then a small fine would just be stupid
|
World's King... I can get you useless facts where there have been defense attorney's on Behalf of insect..and some of them even won ;)
At first it sounded stupid, but to purposely do it? What kinda sick freak are you? I say instead of a fine or anything, we make him do the same thing to a hornet's Nest.. That'll Teach 'Em ;) The bird wasn't attacking.. It apparently had a name... If it had a name it has taken on pet like qualities... Hence the reason all this is going down. I don't like hunting either, but at least hunters get a license to do it and wear that colorful jacket (so the animals know who to attack :)) |
HOF'er Dave Winfield has also had bird run-ins:

Jailtime for injuring a bird IS ridiculous. There are people out there who abuse their spouses and don't get jail time.
However, the article says that pitcher hit the bird intentionally. He's a dickhead. He shouldn't do jailtime, but he is definitely a dickhead. |
rock_bottom: thats a great clip...
as for this guy... the osprey is an endangered species... and so if it dies then theres one less breeding pair..blah blah... the guys an ass and should face a fine... i'm not a rights activist or anything...ive gone hunting... but i dont hunt endangered species... and i dont leave them crippled in a vet hospital... |
I read that crazy story from FARK and I thought the pitcher was dumb as hell to aim for a bird up on a 40 foot pole, he deserves the demotion for being STUPID but he should not be fined
|
A fine won't do any good, he needs to be bitch slapped. What an idiot.
|
Dave Winfield and Randy Johnson both did it ACCIDENTALLY. I believe it's happened other times during games.
This guy carefully took aim and fired a ball at a living thing. To make matters worse, it was an endangered animal. It may seem frivolous at first--and yes, it wasn't a baby(as stated earlier)--but imagine if someone did this to your dog or cat. Of course, it's not as serious as getting drug dealers off the streets or catching murderers, but I somehow doubt that law enforcement is taking many man hours away from those crimes to investigate this. This type of behavior is wrong. He deserves to be punished. |
Yeah, we get a little kooky sometimes with our punishments of seemingly minor infractions while ignoring more violent crimes and such, but come on...what kind of retard intentionally hurts things, even if it is just a bird?
He sounds like the kind of guy who, as a kid, used to see how many frogs he could smash with a big rock, or how many dogs he could hit with a bb gun. |
Fine that ass if he did it on purpose. But i think jail time is excessive... maybe make him do community service...

reminds me of a news story I heard recently from a city in my state, where the radicals were attempting to persuade the city officials to adopt a new ordinance banning the construction of new cell phone towers. According the the radical activists, birds are flying into the towers and dying.
It seems to me that if we allow our goverments to make up rediculous laws like this, where will they stop? If they ban new towers first, then they will have a foundation to make laws to remove the old towers. Then what? Telephone poles? Buildings? Trees? If you ask me, I think birds like towers. If you ever get close to one, you'll see birds sitting all over them. WTF? What kind of world do we live in where the animals have more rights than the people. I really think that the animals were put here for a reason, and that reason isn't what all the freaks think it was, either! just my opinion, of course .... |
Kid's got a good arm.Wonder if PETA has a winter ball team.

I certainly respect your opinion, but I don't feel that animals have more rights than the people. If this guy had seen a person...thought about hitting him....then carefully aimed....and fired a baseball at him....he would still be in trouble with the law. |
I was just aiming the gun in jest, officer. I didn't mean for it to go off and kill my friend.
He intentionally threw the ball at the bird. Against the law. Pay the fine and move on. |
This threads for the birds.....
Sorry couldnt help myself.....he should be fined |
I hate birds. Dirty little animals, if it were a cat or a dog or something then sure, they're cute. That's about as far as my animal rights activism goes though.
|
I can understand everyone who push animal rights up in arms cause he "aimed" for the bird, but come on! I would be willing to bet some kids/teens are outside right now throwing rocks at dogs/cats/birds/whatever and they are not going to jail, comm. sevice and/or a fine but no one would care this must much. Once it hits the news, the shit hits the fan, everyone cares now. He may be an ass, he may just hate animals (everyone is intitled to his opiuion), but jail time rediculaus. I knew a guy once who would hit animals that wouldn't get out of the way of his truck, and he would keep score... so does that make him a serial killer?

I look down on people that abuse animals, so I am abviously biased, but then again so is everyone. This guy was in the spotlight, and he did something stupid and that the judge ruled was a second-degree misdemeanor. Whether that is right or not is debateable, but it is what the ruling was. Am I in support? Sure am. I am almost always in support of rulings that help cut down on needless abuse or killing of animals. |
<climbing on soapbox> Okay jail time for hurting a bird is ridiculous but I do believe that this kid should absolutely be punished in that his actions to hurt/kill this animal were intentional. For anyone who says "it's just a bird" well, what is next for this kid - a cat, then a dog then a human? I'm sorry but cruelty to ANY animal is still cruelty and his parents should have taught him to respect not only people but the creatures we share this world with.
|
i wish that people would use a bit more common sense. while i semi-agree with sixate that we should deal with important things, the fact of the matter is that big problems don't just happen, they develop from small problems. animal cruelty is one of those "small" problems. a vast majority of murderers, serial killers, rapists, and wife beaters, grew up mistreating animals. and because of the lax views of people like sixate and others, they grew up without getting reprimanded, and as a result they become horrible people. this guy deserves to be fined, and more. he has major problems.
|
Wow he has good aim, he hit it in the eye? He's still a mean guy for doing it though. The fine seems like the right punishment, jails need to be filled up with criminals that hurt people.
|
Fine him, flick his willie with a rubber band and let him get back to baseball. At least he did not make the bird explode like RJ.
|
Of course the guy is going to go to jail, while wife-beaters and drunk drivers roam the streets. The bird has better representation.
|
I think that Ryu guy is an asshole. Leave the freeking birds alone!!!
|
PS. rock_bottom: That Randy Johnson video was straight out of a Warner Bros. cartoon.
*Poof!* Cloud of feathers. Too funny. |
