Caterpillers and Spiders

During my last cigarette break I noticed a caterpillar caught up in a spider web. He was thrashing around, getting himself more and more tangled up, but the spider hadn't gotten to him yet. I, of course, had two choices. I could either (A) free him, to let him become a beautiful butterfly that I could perhaps enjoy another day, or (B) do nothing and let him become a tasty meal for the spider. I freed him from his predicament to let him go merrily about his way doing whetever it is that caterpillars do with their time.

Now...from a strictly theological standpoint, should not the caterpillar worship me as his savior? Or, should the spider curse me for depriving him of life giving nourishment and allowing him to go hungry? Or both? Did the needs of the caterpiller really outweigh the needs of the spider? Did "good" and "evil" balance out? Or, do I just really need to stop thinking so much and just go have another cigarette?

Would you have freed a ugly centipede if it was in the same place? Or would you have let the spider eat the ugly centipede?

I think you freed the caterpillar because your trained from youth to think that they are going to change into a beautiful butterfly. Even in the insect world, its all about appearance.

And as soon as you finished that cigarette, a Blue Jay swooped down and eat the juicy caterpillar. So your Army of Caterpillars to take over the world was stillborn.

Aside: You freed that caterpillar?! Did you not see Mothra!

It was the Kharma of both the caterpiller and the spider that you took the action that you did.

It was your Kharma to be there at that time.

Neither. I bet the caterpillar was too big for the spider, and you saved the spider the trouble.

Hail Fiddler with the Space-Time Continuum!

Flash forward a million years when we are slaves to some horrible caterpillar overlord. Everyday is a living hell with no end as we toil in their salt mines. It is all due to some meddlesome smoking ape playing parking lot god. Fool, you have destroyed us all!

The caterpillar might turn into a moth and destroy. A moth(or butterfly) won't help us get rid of pesky moquitoes. You shoulda fed the spider to keep it healthy, allowing it to hunt more pests.

How do you know it was really a spider web and not an epileptic caterpillar trying to weave its cocoon?

I really dont like spiders. But, you might have set one of those deadly caterpillars free in your "act of kindness." Unless the caterpillar starts worshipping you, I think it was a lose-lose situation

I think you should've left him. He won't worship you, and the spider was very hungry.

I would have just let the caterpiller there. It got itself into that mess it should have to get itself out of that mess.

you should've eaten the caterpillar, they're tasty and have lots of protein. This might've occured to you if you weren't curbing your own hunger with cigarettes.
