Do you work out?

Hey... You're pretty hot... Do you work out?

I'm at the gym every weekday at 6:00 am. I do half an hour of hard cardio on the elliptical trainer. I lift weights every time I feel like I've recovered from the LAST time I lifted weights, which works out to once every three days or so. I mostly lift chest, arms, back, and abs.

This every-morning-exercise is a new practice for me, I've been doing it for about a month. I've lost about five pounds so far, even with Easter candy thrown in there. ;)

What do you do?

maximusveritas 04-23-2003 08:34 AM

I used to work out, but haven't for a while now. I just thought about it one day and realized I really wasn't getting anything out of it anymore. I still play sports and consider myself healthy and fit, but I haven't seen a gym in over a year now.

SaltPork 04-23-2003 08:40 AM

I don't do shit, but I do belong to a gym. Seemed like the best place to throw away $65 a month.

phoenix1002 04-23-2003 08:50 AM

I worked out regularly through part of the winter. Went to the rec center on campus almost every day and ran for about half an hour or so, sometimes lifted or used the ergs. Then for some reason I stopped, and haven't gone back lately. I feel like a lazy bum, but never seem to have the time with all the stuff I need to do.

JoeyB 04-23-2003 09:50 AM

I'm training for a marathon, so I run at least 15 miles a week. The actual race isn't coming up too soon, so I have plenty of time to make up the extra miles.

BBtB 04-23-2003 09:52 AM

I don't work out but I lost 20 lbs anyway. (in the past about 3 months) So what do I know?

Edited: Actully I just weighed myself and its closer to 25lbs for about the past 4 months

BoCo 04-23-2003 09:53 AM

I work out almost everyday. Most days I spend an hour or so in the gym on only 1 or 2 body parts a day, and other days I ride my bike. I just got done riding 27.63 miles this morning.

RAMONES!!! 04-23-2003 09:55 AM

i need to work out, so i try to do 60 (or more) sit ups a night, can do it, but i FEEL THE BURN!!!

Cubby 04-23-2003 10:03 AM

I've been working out regularily for the last half year or so and have lost 15 pounds..not sure how many I will have gained though with my current trip to the US. I'm eating out a lot but am only here for a week then back to work, abs, running, weights...

shalafi 04-23-2003 10:11 AM

I was going to the gym for a while 5 days a week about 2 hrs a day and getting awesome results but then i quit for some reason and now im fat again. I keep saying im gonna go back and one of these days ill get off my ass and actually do it.

snowy 04-23-2003 10:23 AM

I just started working out (yay me!) and I'm kinda taking it easy right now--just 20 minutes of cardio 3 times a week and then weight lifting for another 20 minutes. I'm hoping to trim up, but we'll see. :)

sixate 04-23-2003 10:55 AM

I lift weights for almost 2 hours damn near every day. I also do at least 40 minutes of cardio. When it's nice out I'll go ride my bike. Anytime my friends are playing some kind of sport I'm game for that too. Just don't forget to eat right.

gibber71 04-23-2003 11:07 AM

I bike approximately 30 kilometres a day and do sit ups and light weights every other day.I eat lean meats, fruits and vegetables and my reward on Friday's is beer.

World's King 04-23-2003 11:44 AM

I ride my bicycle 4 times a week for 5 miles.

Other than that I just sit.

troit 04-23-2003 11:49 AM

I got back into working out about six months ago -- thanks to BoCo for the PM's and encouragement. Its hard to get back into after a long layoff. Not only do I feel better but I look better and just feel better about myself.

The great thing about working out is it doesn't matter what age you are -- you can always benefit from it and you know what? It doesn't cost much either. Sure you can go out there and join a $125 a month gym, but at the other end of the spectrum you can also simple go for a walk or run -- which is free.

meembo 04-23-2003 12:15 PM

I did off and on but I was fucking miserable most of the time. I could do it, but it was BORING, and I'm too much of a hedonist not to enjoy myself.

I knew I need to lose weight, so I started to eat less, and that alone has let me drop 30 pounds over the winter. I'm a very big guy to begin with, but 30 pounds is still a big chunk -- all my pants are falling off (and I love it)

Troublebot 04-23-2003 12:38 PM

Yep. Riding the bike for 45 minutes everyday before work and then lifting weights after work. Got more energy and some definition in my arms, chest, back and shoulders.

However, I haven't lost a pound and still have the gut. Not a real big deal to me, but I'd like to get rid of it.

Go_AVS 04-23-2003 01:03 PM

Never got into it but now that I'm getting a little older, I'm gonna have to start. I would be sore for a few day after skiing so I am realizing I am out of shape. I am thinking about buying a BowFlex. I fugure if I don't use the BowFlex, then I will have a new spot to pile shit up.

Satsuma 04-23-2003 01:31 PM

I run five miles three to four times a week. But I haven't been out in a few weeks. I need to get my butt out there and run. It's finally nice outside.

SecretMethod70 04-23-2003 03:16 PM

I take the stairs to class......sometimes.

I really ought to start bike riding or something - my metabolism isn't as fast as it used to be.

Boner 04-23-2003 03:23 PM

Monday: upper body (biceps, triceps, chest, back, shoulders). Usually runs me a little over an hour.
Tuesday: Either jog or do 20 minutes of hard cardio on a treadmill
Weds: lower body (all legs), and abs. Takes a little under an hour.
Thurs: Same as Tuesday
Friday: repeat of Monday

The next week I swap the M-F work outs with the Weds. workout (i.e. legs on M-F, upper body on Weds.)

Unfortunately my eating habits have went to shit in the last month or so, which is affecting my workouts. I started trying to get back on track this week.

The_Dude 04-23-2003 03:29 PM

work my penis out

BubblegumTeflon 04-23-2003 03:38 PM

I work out at home and lift a few weights maybe once a week, and I do aerobic exercise every other day. Works very well for me. My only diet problem is drinking too much soda, everything else is light and healthy.

Sensei 04-23-2003 03:48 PM

My university forces a $200 mandatory gym fee upon all of the students. I used to go three times a week so I felt like I got my money's worth but now i barely go once a week. Real sweet gym though!

apetaster 04-23-2003 04:07 PM

Home. Free weights 2 or 3x weekly at night (upper body only.) Half hour on the deathcycle.

spectre 04-23-2003 05:40 PM

1 - 2 hours daily with weights, 200 or more situps at night, I go for 2 - 3 mile walks before my classes start, plus I take the stairs everywhere in school.

Puppetry Master 04-23-2003 06:20 PM

I do sports. More entertaining than the gym.

sierra2774 04-23-2003 06:28 PM

I workout about 3 times a week and Sauna almost every day.

krwlz 04-23-2003 06:30 PM

used to work out fairly regularly, but we moved and my weight machine isnt here and set up yet, im bummed,

oh well, i do pull ups and push ups when i feel i can handle it after workin

Jesus Pimp 04-23-2003 06:42 PM

I plan on joining a gym and bulking up a little after I graduate college and have more time.

phoenix1002 04-23-2003 07:01 PM

After seeing this thread, I felt guilty and went over to the gym. I ran for a whopping 12 1/2 minutes at a blistering 8 min/mi pace, and just didn't feel like continuing :(. Then I went and rode one of the bikes while I read a book that I was supposed to have finished a week ago. Did that for 20 min, 'till the security guard kicked me out cause he was locking up.

The worst part about about going back to the gym after not going for a while is you want to pick up where you left off, but you just can't do it...

Scipio 04-23-2003 07:06 PM

I started back a few weeks ago. Just running and lifting at this point. Basically your semi-skinny white dude (6' 150 lb) getting into shape.

krwlz 04-23-2003 07:24 PM

same here bud, only i got a few pounds on ya(160)...i always felt real skinny, but its good to hear theres more of us out there!

Sluggin 04-23-2003 07:49 PM

I do a monday, wednesday, friday routine where I lift about everything that I feel I can do adequately, which is usually everything. Beyond that, I play basketball on many of the local street courts alot, played for three and a half hours today in fact (that's besides lifting) and then I usually play 5 or 6 rounds of disc golf every week (not really a work out, but at least it gets you outside and moving for about two hours).

Hopefully people read this thread and notice how great such activities make you feel, and how good they are for you. It's as addictive as cigarettes with absolutely no downside, unless you don't like the feeling of taxed muscles. :D

Minus000 04-23-2003 08:33 PM

endorphins are my freind.

Sun Tzu 04-24-2003 02:05 AM

I used to lift for size; back when I thought Deca was cool. Now I lift more for performance. I train in JKD which is combination of thai boxing, jun fan, wing chun, filipino martial arts, and a few others 4 to 5 times a week. I think martial training both internal/external is great for anyone.

gjbourke 04-24-2003 02:35 AM

good to hear you're not munching deca anymore Sun Tzu

Cardio 3-4 x week, intervals and heart rate zone
Weights 3x week, big compounds like deep squat, deads, bench, dips, chins, rows, presses, plus other odds n ends
Yoga Iyengar 2x week

Rather than weight change what I see is body composition change.

Cuball 04-24-2003 04:14 AM

when I'm not injured I go to the gym 3 times a week (mainly for my basketball)

I wish bulking up were my problem! ;)

livingitup101 04-24-2003 07:24 AM

I run 4-5 miles about 4 days a week. Usually lift weights for back, shoulders, chest and triceps. Don't do much bicep workout. I just touch upon them with other muscle exercises. I'm training for a 1/2 marathon in San Fran in October. So will increase the mileage over the next few months.
