Forwards using CC
maybe this should belong in the computin thread, but i think it's general enough.
lemme start off with i hate forwards. and i even more hate forwards that have lists of email's on them. a spammer would have a field day if he/she gets a hold of one of these. why do people have to use the CC field when they can send a based carbon copy using bcc?? it's puttin my valuable email at risk cuz of stupid friends and stupid forwards. just had to get that out. |
I hate that shit, when people e-mail me something with fity million gat dang e-mail addresses on it, and after I sift through it it's just some lame-ass chain letter.
People who send me fresh e-mails, with only tasty goodies (such ass hee-larious photographs) have got it right. |
i always send to myself and BCC everyone else... everyone else are just idiots and press reply all and messes everyone else up...
|
Cynthetiq, I wish everyone would follow the way you do. I usually do exactly like you said, but it seems like every email I get from friends has all the names in the To: field.
|
I hate that, and I think BCC means "blind carbon copy." Spammers are collectively Satan, and they aren't immune from chain letters, they love them.
|
sometimes i think about giving all the emails up to a porno site, just to teach 'em a lesson. but i'm not that evil
|
I keep telling some of my friends to quit sending me that shit, but they never do, so I stop talking to them or responding to their personal e-mails. I hate getting chain mails or jokes that have been forwarded two dozen times.
|
Same problem. I tell everyone to NOT ever send me chain mails, but they keep at it. . .
|
problem is, I hate that chain mail shit. (what , with all that cutesy, lovey dovey, dontcha just LOVE IT ALL BULLSHIAT.)
But I love the person sending it to me. how do I go about telling them that their preoccupation and favorite pasttime is about to make me fucking puke all over my keyboard? quandry |
I dont understand people, i to tell everyone i know to stop sending me forwards all the time, and most of my friends dont. But there are a couple who do anyway. Once i broke up with a girl, it was a very very complicated break up and one day i was waiting for a responce to a very heated email that i had sent the day before, long story short, she ended up sending a useless forward before she even sent a reply. Who would do that?? honestly, that is messed up. Obviously we ended up semi-friends who never really talk anymore. Grrrr i hate forwards.

It's hard to tell your friends that spam is generated this way so what I do is forward the email on (If it's funny or whatever),and take the time to scrub out the crap that came with it. I then make a point of thanking them for "said" email and explain and hope they will learn. Success rate so far. 10%. No one wants to hear that shit. As a side issue. Women are the worst offenders. eg:Click this pps file email:Love is special,Forward it on.etc etc.... Seriously thinking about changing my email address. |
I've noticed other things about CC.
We used to CC projects to several people (in small groups) in college. One particular group had three males (including me) and one female. One of the group members, a Russian we'll call Boris, never really let the woman speak in group. He'd overide her on everything, and generally let her know his opinion of her. One of the things that upset her was he would send e-mails to the men using the TO: section, and CC: things to her. She saw it as another kick. From then on I've been more careful about whose address went into the CC:, especially since the only people I send those e-mails to are people in a professional capacity that I often don't know well. So I was wondering - cause I had never thought of it till then - besides getting upset about forwards - has anyone ever been upset because they were in the CC: line and not in the TO: line? |

I get upset if I'm in either field, because most of the crap I get is just that: CRAP!! The first time I get crap from a friend I send a nice response asking them to cut it out and explaining why, politely. The second time earns them a sterner warning email. And the third time earns them a full mail box from all sorts of mailing lists and my forwarding all the spam I recieve to them. |
In offices, CC gets used all the time, so the person who mainly gets the email knows you've sent it to someone else, and who that someone is. Great motivator if it's the other persons boss.
