Councilman killed in NYC City Hall Shooting
this is still a developing story....at around 2:30PM a man in a cream colored suit shot Councilman Davis twice in the chest and fled the scene. At least one other person was injured. Apparently, the shooter MAY have been an opponent of the Councilman's in an election that the Councilman won.
Supposedly this would have never had happened if Guiliani was still around. His City Hall security was notoriously tight while Bloomberg has been criticized for lax security. |
update: the gunman is still on the loose, however the brooklyn bridge has been reopened after being closed momentarily
|
It's a shame. I'll save any political comments until another time. Except: Some people are real asshats.
|
What was James Davis' party affiliation?
|
Democrat, i think.....almost 99% sure
|
update: a second person has now died
|
I find it interesting that the AP says that at least a dozen shots were fired, and that the gun he used may have been a revolver. Are there any 12 shot revolvers? Because I can't really see anyone giving him time to reload and empty the gun again.
Edit: The AP has updated their story and it all makes sense now. The second victim is actually the assailant who was shot by a plainclothes police officer who was also at the council meeting. The assailant was a political opponent of the councilman and his ties to the councilman had allowed him to bypass security. |
Its easy to see how this happened. I doubt there was any security - metal detectors and whatnot. I mean, who would have thought there would be a threat against people in a government building in NYC?
Aren't handguns illegal in NYC? If so, please note how that did NOT stop a crime from happening. If not, never mind. Oh, ya. One more thing - THIS SUCKS ASS! People, please stop shooting one another. |

It's rather ironic that Councilman Davis was a strong proponent against anti-violence (he was the leader in putting the ban on real looking gun toys) and he dies this way. What a shame.

very much a shame....
even with the Orange Alert: Elevated that NYC has been under every day since 9/11, while the rest of the country doesn't. I see militia all the time on my commute in and out of the city. I find it amazing that with the hightened awareness that still somethig like this happens. Knowledge of who someone is doesn't give them the right to not be searched. PERIOD. Security is security. |
This is another example (see 9/11) of heightened security AFTER THE FACT. Why the heck wasn't EVERYBODY required to go through the metal detectors, epecially in NYC? Now they say all persons must go through, but a fat lot of good that does NOW. The deed is done. When will they figure this out?
|
theyve got it figured out, its just a matter of money and effort
|
Thats some crazy stuff.
