I used to drink A LOT. In college I weighed 130lbs and I'd put away 750ml of cheap vodka in an evening.

Twelve years later, if I drink more than two beers, I've got a50% chance of an ugly hangover. More than 4 beers and I'll be wrecked until the next night. Clearly, I need a new filter somewhere.

Since I can drink so little, I drink good stuff. Guiness, fine single malt, etc.

Stories? Hmmm....I got caught by my track coach pissing all over his neighbors lawn. When he confronted me, I slurred at the top of my lungs, "I'm not drunk, I'm just pretending." (note: Don't try that ploy. It doesn't work). The next day I went to apologize to my coach, and I ended up throwing up in front of him, all over the flowers he was watering. Not good. Nope. Not good at all.

I don't want to sound like I'm down on drinking. some of the best times I've ever had have been whilst drunk. Convinced some friends to do a threesome while we were loaded. Damn that was a blast!

Many nights I rocked out on my bari sax while loaded to the gills. It was like perpetal motion. I'd get drunk and play sax. People would listen, dance, and give me beer, I'd play more sax...etc.

Sigh. Those were good times.

(GodDAMN I hate goin' out. I really do. But once I'm out there I generally have a good time- Only because of ONE THING and ONE THING ONLY do I enjoy myself. The big A. I generally hate people that have been drinking if I have not been able to. I think it's an envy thing so when I go out I must drink. I must I must I must.
Am I an alchoholic for having that mindset?
probably.
I'm coming off vacation and going on 3rd shift for a few weeks so that should help with my problem. Actually I'm probably not as bad as I make myself out to be here but it's nice to be able to talk about it. Not having a woman right now makes it easy to be a lush AND for the same reason do I need to clear that problem up. It grows old and I've learned to love the "Beautiful Day.")

Then. One time... The cows never came home. So I switched poisons when my gizzard said it was time.

Beer. Rolling Rock in the summer. Yuengling Lager in the winter.
ha ha. Ha HA. yeah right. so I like to say.

I was out tonight at the ABaG. (American bar and grill) The type of bar where, if I wanted I could have "everyone know my name"
it's one of those bars. good food. good friends. a black and and white glossy of all the regulars plastered on the walls. I met my mother there with her boyfriend. My mom. drinking...
sees me. latches on. won't let go. No amount of alchohol will allow me to be set free of the self-consciescness that ensues.
alas I leave and set forth to meet some friends at the historic
"Blue Star" in town, to take in some absolutely Smokin' Jams from the evervolving "Hexbelt" The eve turned out AOK as I ended up here in front of my computer to tell you about it.

I'm studying to become a beer connoisseur. I say that seriously, not as an excuse for drinking. I used to be a fiend for White Russians, but I don't really drink liquor anymore. Just beer.

Anyway, I prefer dark beers. I certainly enjoy IPAs, lagers, pilsners, et cetera, but when my staples are both dark beers. You can usually find either Guinness (cheap and tasty) or Mackeson Triple Stout in my beer fridge.

Ahhhh, I loves me some beer.

I was just in Italy for five weeks, and it was a drinker's paradise. Picture this: 120 college musicians with room and board covered, handed 180 euro every monday. Finish performing, begin boozing, everynight.

There is this bar in Spoleto called Tutta Biera that has over 400 kinds of beer - we never ordered anything, just told the owner to surprise us. Also, beer there is often 10% alcohol (except for the aptly named demon ale, clocking in at 12%)!

Long story short, I was given nearly 1800 euro, and I came back to America with like 6 bucks in my pocket, having gone to bed before 4 AM about twice in over a month. And no hangovers!

Long live Italia!!

I like to drink. In fact i like to drink a lot.... I've slowed down some but I still take a nip here and there.

Things I like:
Beer: Rolling Rock, Killians, Pete's wicked
Shots: Red-headed slut, oatmeal raisin cookies, purple sweet tarts
Mixed Drinks: long Island Ice Tea, Margaritas
Liquor: Tequila (preferably Cabo Wabo)

i also like to drink Oatmeal cookies as drinks rather than shots but 2 or 3 glasses of that will put you on your ass.

My wildest drinking story? My friend and i split a bottle of tequila and a case of beer one night. She and I ended up playing strip poker and making out in front of her boyfriend......

When in the US, I tend to drink whatever beer (or preferably liquor, though not as often) that I can get my hands on (I, uh, lack ID ).

When I'm somewhere legal, I tend to go towards a good scotch, wine (as long as it fits with what I'm eating, and it's good quality, it works for me), or something of that nature. I'd really like to get my mitts on some Guinness. Oh well, only 13 months (minus 3 hours) to go till I'm legal!

Wine - Big fan of the Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz. The folks have a membership with the wine society so we get a whole range of different wines dielivered each month. We just knock them down with damn fine food. A good friend of mine has a family friend who runs his own tiny little vinyard out near Mudgee, NSW. We've had occasion to go up to the little cabin there and eat and drink heavily. Got some family in the Hunter Valley wine industry so I do feel I have a bit of an attachment to wine in this country.

I do love champagne, Pol Roger when I can afford it but domestics are okay.

Beer - Well, this is the country of the famous domestic beers. I'm not fussy, I drink what's there and I don't have brand loyalty. There are some that aren't that great but I couldn't be bothered talking about them.
Meridae'n made a good call with the Cascade Premium. Another good one is Coopers.

There are good European beers too and the Germans are geniuses. Look for Schofferhoffer wheat beer. The Dutch and Japanese have a few nice ones too.

Mixed - Enjoy a Gin & Tonic on a hot summer afternoon with Bombay Sapphire or Gordons, a small dash of bitters and a fresh lime wedge. Don't often touch anything with Coke in it. Don't like pretending my hard drinks are soft drinks. Used to work in a pub where I would work in the cellar during the day on Friday and start my staff drinks early that night.

The hot bar girls still on duty would conspire to pour me free G & Ts that were gin heavy, in some cases a 1:1 ratio. They knew that sooner or later I would get stupid drunk and amuse them. Dance monkey, dance!!

Spirits - Scotch on the rocks when I'm cooking up a big meal for the family, followed by a beer chaser in the final stages of cooking. Enjoy the single malts, especially Talisker from the Isle of Skye. Bundaberg is Australian for Rum.

Cocktails - bombay sapphire gin maritini, stirred not shaken with extra dry vermouth. Manhattan with Wild Turkey Bourbon, Rosso Vermouth and bitters coating the glass.

Wine - well, i´m a big fan of Margaret River (WA) whites, esp the more specialised vineyards such as Cullens. i also love Sauv Blancs from Martinborough/Marlborough (NZ) - which i believe is consistantly the best region for the colder climate grapes. as for reds, well, Merlots are my favs...but i can find occasion for enjoying every other red drop. once again i´ll support all Australian reds especially those coming out the Barossa and Claire regions. that Penfolds 389 that Mac mentioned is affectionately known as ´baby grange´ (Grange Hermitage is Australia´s best red, with some vintages fetching thousands per bottle) since its affordable and still delicious.

Champagne - well, this is my topic of choice. as for domestic champagne (or sparkling white as we´re supposed to call it) i can´t go passed Croser (which is made by the Petaluma vineyard - which makes some of Australias most awarded whites - esp the Chardonnay). but given the choice, and for a similar price, i prefer a vintage Pelarus (which is a NZ bubbly - beautiful!!). this is a relatively unknown delight in Australia, but its gaining in popularity... lets hope that doesn´t make them rise their prices.

as for French champagne, this is where i enter heaven. most recently i´ve been enjoying Billiecart-Salmon. imo, this is a fine champagne. Perrier-Jouet is another fav, but thats harder to come by in Sydney.

another fav is the good old Italian Prosecco. which i find is the best way to wind down after a long party night. its a bit of a ritual i have with a friend that after a night on the town we head to a good jazz bar (wine banc for those in Sydney) and catch some jazz and prosecco while we relax.

Beer - well, like Mac said, Australia is awash with fine domestic beer. as for draught i´m going through a Carton Draught phase. its a great beer on tap. While Cascade is a great beer, i´d have to choose the Crown lager. another good favourite is the James Squire Ale... which is a perfect bbq beer. oh, and i should also plug Matilda Bay, which is another quality, but lesser known beverage.
as for imports, well, with summer coming on fast, its about time to start on the Coronas again people.

Mixed - well, i can´t ever go past a good G+T. Macheath put me onto these way back when we were about 15, and i haven´t lost my love for them since. and while i´ve been finding that i´m enjoying certain spirits more and more without soft-drink top-ups, the G+T has remained my drink of choice.

Spirits - well, i quite like bourbon on the rocks. but in this category i really can´t go passed my namesake. BUNDY RUM is what i am named for... just as i was when i worked bar... (thats right folks, i´m not named after Ted or Al)... good old Bundy Rum is the principal sponsor of the Wallabies, so during this Rugby World Cup, there aren´t too many supporters not drinking Bundy.

Cocktails - well, the classic Margarita is my favourite here. in an age where most cocktails are now being made with ´infused´ vodkas, too much lime, or exotic fruits like Quongdong or Lychee, its good to see the old Margarita still available in all bars.

a lesson for us all

A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and the weakest ones at the back that are killed first.
This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole because the average speed and health of the group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first.
In this way, regular consumption of wine eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine

Preference
Classic 40: If I'm drinking a 40oz then it better be High Gravity and 8.0%
Beer:Yuengling (can't get it here), Molson, or Mich Golden Light
Wine: a little of everything. You dont' have to spend a lot to get good wine. I like a good zin or chard. Cigarzin is my fav zin, and Kendell Jackson makes good whites. Thirsty lizard (I know it sounds weird) is a good white shiraz too.
Pitcher of: Beer or Something strong and tasteless
Beer and Fruit: Corona and Lime or Honey weisse with a Lemon

Stance on Key Issues
40oz Beer: Only when the goal is to drink hard and fast
Beer with Dinner: not bad depending on the meal, but wine is better
Kegs of Cheap Beer: I'll get a headache but its better than paying for it
Fruity Malt Beverages: Maaaybe one, they make my stomach hurt
Alcoholic Beverage: Vodka Tonic preferably but I like to switch it up a lot
Preferences: Vodka: Vox, Shakers, Ketel One, or Stoli. Wasn't impressed with GG. I really want to try Effen and Ciroc (snap frost grapes, MMM) Vodka usually goes with tonic, but sometimes with redbull (mmm redbull)
Rum: no real preference, though captain or bacardi are always nice. Haven't had as much. Usually with coke.
Tequila: Correlajo (anything top shelf, but as a rule I stay away)
Honestly I stay away from Cheap alchol because it fucks up my world.
Shots: Jag and Red Bull, hands down. Lemon Drop second but mostly the liquid Viagra/Jag Bomb (mmmm redbull)

Personal Bests
Bonging a beer: Doesn't matter, I'll win (even with the 40oz)
Shots (in 1 Night): Don't Remember, but it ended with a triple shot of rail gin (gag)

As for stories, I will post up later. I have two or three big ones. One is tequila night where I end up naked in a bathtub, the other is my 22nd b-day and the gin.

My tastes shift often, but currently...

Beer: Stella Artois (recent shift from the heavy beers McEwens, Guiness, etc.)
Wine: On hot summer afternoons a light Pinot Grigio or a Sovy Blanc, preferably Australian.
Alcohol: Gin, T&T or a Tangurey 10 Martini up.

My current local is just next door to my office, the Slow Club . Fantastic little neighborhood restaurant/bar. About once every 6 months I have to walk home from there because the bartenders love to dish out the 4 ounce shots of Don Julio or some Tequilla of similar quality. Once that train starts rolling there's no stopping it. Thank god they serve food!

inspired by another thread and to revitalize this one, here are my favorite drinks of the moment:

mixed -
some kind of mango concoction i accidentally discovered which simply involves adding mango rum to mango juicy juice to taste. juicy juice is so sweet and the mango one tastes pretty good. mango captain morgan's is pretty nice and smooth, so it tastes really good and you really don't notice how much you're drinking until it hits you because you're (i'm) practically chugging the stuff hand over fist.

some other random creation (don't know if it has a name) is a screwdriver but with mountain dew added in (exact measurements are a mystery to me). this is the thing that i started drinking on, it also is pretty tasty when made correctly.

i also like white russians a lot at the moment.

straight shot of choice would be vodka

I can't believe I missed this thread! Damn right we Aussies drink like fish!

My favorite beer of all time is Cooper's Sparkling Ale, it comes from South Australia, family-made, all that stuff. It's fantastic, I love it. Cascade's great, so is Carlsberg and James Squire, I love that too.

I haven't had much experience with vodka and rum and gin, just a few cocktails but beer definitely does it for me. Half a small glass of Johnny Walker with a few ice cubes, let it sit for a few minutes and sip that, godamn that is absolutely heavenly.

And I'm a sucker for red wine, anything Merlot in my favorite wine glass can be the perfect ending to a shitty day sometimes.
