Actually, I have difficulty imagining this hurting the feelings of any girls I know. But then, it's been a long time since I was in high school, so maybe it just doesn't matter as much anymore.

From the definitions above, a slut is a girl who acts like a 16-year-old boy who's told he can have sex anytime he wants. The boy would be considered lucky, the girl is considered trash. Typical.

I once picked up one of those thick women's studies/sociology tomes because I wanted to figure out why a fair number of "nice" women I've known treated other women really badly. Anyhow, their studies showed among other things that the slut label was put on teenager girls by -- other teenage girls. Guys would go along with calling somebody a slut once it got started, but it was almost always the girls who started it. Usually it was somebody whose breasts were a little too large or who dressed a little too provocatively and either wasn't in an "in" group or had offended somebody else who was. A lot of times the "slut" wasn't especially sexually active. It's just a way girls have of getting at somebody who appears a little too sexual (and might be getting more male attention than the other girls like) and is not "one of them."

My conclusion: men can be brutal, but women can be cruel.

What about this? Say a man and a woman are both virgins when the marry and are monogamous throughout 30 years of marriage. The wife is about to finish law school and is interviewing for a position at a prestigous law firm. The night before the interview, her husband wants to bolster her self-esteem. He prepares and feeds her favorite meal to her. He then gives her a very sensuous bath lit only by 2 dozen candles. He follows this by giving her a deep, intimate massage. The term slut is typically only used in reference to women, a man who has all the sex he wants for the reason of having sex (or even as a substitute for self-esteem) is a 'player' or a 'stud.' A lot of girls I know who are, for lack of a better term, sluts, don't understand this.

The truth is, the reason this so-called double-standard exists, is because it's a lot easier for a woman to get action than a man. That's really what it all comes down to.

Then again, does it really matter? Personally, I will never be a 'player' simply because I have no desire to be. That doesn't mean that I have a right to describe someone with the term slut just because they have a great deal of sex or emotional issues.

There's a difference between the situation you mentioned and what I had intended, that is, someone who bases their self-worth solely on how many partners they've had. In your situation, the husband is going out of his way to do something special for his wife out of love, he's trying to make her feel good about herself. There's a huge difference between love and sex.

I am going to put my definition in before reading other peoples on here, so my mind isn't clouded.


I think a slut is as follows.

Someone who cheats on anyone is for sure a slut, no questions asked.

Someone who has had sex with 3 or more people in a year was pretty much a slut for that year. (based on the fact that most relationships are usually like 4-6 months). If you slept 3 or more people and dated them for 4-6 months, that means you pretty much can't go without dick for longer than a month. I find that pretty slutty.

Someone who will have sex with you the first day you meet them is probably a slut.

If someone likes having a lot of sex, that doesn't mean they are slutty though. That just means they like having sex with said partner. I think if a girl has been with over 8 guys, she's moving into slut area.

I think slut is also an attitude. Some girls don't get much, but they slut around and dress in clothes that are way too tight and are very revealing and all that. Those chicks are also slutty.


I would have to conclude that a slut is basically in the mind of the person kind of. If the person doesn't care about herself, or others, and will go out and sleep with pretty much anyone she finds somewhat attractive, she's pretty much a slut, or very confused.

Yes, it's an old word and in olden days (i.e. before 1960) it specifically applied only to women. Women in traditional English/Germanic cultures aren't supposed to enjoy sex.

A woman who does enjoy it (and who has sex for non-mercenary reasons) is dangerous to the "moral upstanding respectable" women of the community. She deprives them of their valuable currency.

However, sex in and of itself, with as many partners as you want, doesn't make you a liar or cheat. It's lying and cheating that make one a liar or a cheat.

It was a vicious term applied seemingly randomly in high school. I think it correlated to little more than the rumor mill, and the definition (sleeps around) didn't seem to relate to the people it was applied to.

Don't here it used much in the circles I run in these days (except by my brother, applied only to himself).

I was a jock in high school, but i didn't lose my virginity till i was 20. I definitely didn't fall into your definition of "jock". In fact, I think a lot of jocks felt pressure to admit they were getting it on, but in reality, weren't getting it nearly as much as they bragged and boasted. The need to feel adult and mature runs high at that age as men try to find an identity and acceptance from their peers. I still know guys that will fabricate or overly exaggerate a story to gain acceptance.

I do believe I agree with this. I find this happens more in women than men though, in RL and online. My definition : Slut is a demeaning word used to describe someone who has aimless sex with multiple partners without any affection being involved. Internet sluts are those who continously throw themselves at every man, woman, or thing they come across and post about ALL their sexual experiences.

I have no problems speaking of sex or talking about experiences but there are always that handful of people in RL and online who get off on it and never have any substance or intelligent things to say.

I heard a female friend of mine say last night, "I didn't sleep with him yet because I like him." This leads one to believe that if she just though he was hot, she would sleep with him.

Personally slut doesn't hold its true meaning... completely. I use it among my friends (guy friends of course) to just throw jokes back at eachother. Put it this way, by the end of high school my nickname was (and kinda still is) "Whore".. Mind you I'm still a virgin. The words just became meaningless.

Although I might add.. Slut WAS meant to mean someone who just got around... for free. Where as a whore aka prostitute got paid to sleep around.

If you sleep around... A LOT.. then yeah you still probably will be considered a slut, but we live in an age where having sex isn't quite the 'taboo' it once was. Thus "slut" shouldn't carry the same context as it once did.

In my book, every female is a slut until proven otherwise.

Any one who has sex just to have sex, either for personal gain or not. I was dating this girl, and we were getting along great, never did the wild thing though, then we were talking about how many partners we had, she was 21 and had triple digits, she couldn't remember exactly how many, or why she even did that many. Needless to say, our relationship ended shortly after.
