What I find interesting is now she plans on a lawsuit against the Police Department. Now I do feel she should be compensated, but I am not sure if the Police Department did anything wrong. Yes she was wrongfully arrested but that was because she was masterfully framed.

I'm not sure whether I should be glad to know that even among a conspiracy to frame an innocent person for a crime spree, someone's conscience got the better of him and proved her innocence, or to become more cynical that someone can be arrested and tried as a criminal mastermind with no real evidence.
No, I'm sure, it's that second one. |

I'm not sure the police did anything wrong except being slow to investigate.
Very interesting, and it makes you wonder how many people could actually pull something like that off. She should be more concerned about selling her story to Lifetime or some studio. You know what a plot for a Law & Order show will be next season... |

The day before the article I had watched a Law& Order SVU from last season about a man who hired someone to stalk his rapist so she could not testify. I am really floored by the case how easy it can be for someone to frame someone in this manner. Especially in this case since she tended to use cash seemingly which helped to show no paper trail of where she was.
After showing it to a few friends including a lawyer and two judges, they seemed surprised by the amount her bail was. They seemed to think she must have had a bad lawyer to have the bail set and kept so high for her to be in jail so long. They also could not seem to think of any overt negligence the police did. They were also sure she will get a settlement offer, in the past decade NYPD has spent hundreds of millions on settlements.

Are the police required to respect assessments from a perp? How could this have confused them for so long as to have separated a woman from her daughter? Why wead as the woman suspected to be lying about anything? I'm sure I didn't read through this PILE OF SHIT as well as I could have, but my patience doesn't ride with stupid. I see the principles were educated. Wasting their adopted culture's time was WRONG. Wasting her time was wronger. Letting him out on bail to commit this travesty of justice makes it all the sillier. 'taint funny. Sexist that I am, duct tape should have given the authorities a clue. Also, I don't think their having too much work to do excuses anything.

I once knew a lady who went around an enemies neighborhood posting very official looking "Sex Offender Notifications" on every telephone pole and bare wall they could find. Of course her "enemy" was not in fact a child molester or sex offender but I'm sure many neighbors were convinced since the notifications stated "often claims to work with troubled youth to gain access to his victims." He was in fact a juvenile drug and alcohol counselor.
Dude ended up selling his house and moving across town. Once info like that gets in the air there's no way to clear it from everyone mind.

A teacher once told me: "The legal system in this country is here to promote order, not justice. Justice is just a side effect."
It hit home with me, and the more years that have passed since the more I understand this to be correct. I despise the legal system of this country. |

I think there used to be more order more justice but we've clogged our system with non-violent drug offenders.
