So, what do you pack on your way to a new life?
It is done, I am on my way to be with sierra2274, I am leaving california on Wed. the 23rd and will be in ohio on the 26th.
We will finally be together. Packing the 5 C's. Clothing, computer, car stuff, The Cat and christopher. Which leads to the question, What do you pack for a new life? Never had one before, dont really know...... Ok, brain trust and wise folk of the TFP, give something to think about, it will be a long drive (2449 miles);) |
words of wisdom: Ohio sucks

What do you pack for a new life?
Besides clean underwear, I'd say something good to read. You never know when your new life will get boring, and you'll need to escape to a new new life :) |
Toothbrush.

i am sure packing yourself is all that matters :)

well, because you're moving into an established home, you have been releived of one of the biggest burdens facing any mover... lots of shit. you don't hafta take any home appliances (except the few you simply can't live without), dishes, silverware, furniture, anything like that. just take care in separating the gonna take it's from the gonna dump it's. what you don't take, donate to goodwill. they could use it. fold your clothes. it'll save so much space. the only other must-have items would be a few mementos from your childhood. i have a drawer full of memories... it'll go with me wherever i go.

Anyway, I don't think it is the State that he is really coming for anyway, it is who is here waiting patiently for him. |

Anyway, maybe I'll get to meet you after you're here. If you're starting a new life just bring the essentials. It looks like you have that covered. |
For the trip -
tools to fix a flat, first aid kit, a good knife, a camera For the life - at least three amusing stories about the trip and some pictures |
for the trip: jump-start cables, a regular cable, enough water in plastic bottles.
For your new life: all the great memories from your previous life (yeah, I know, sappy cliché :) but you shouldn't forget your previous life when you're starting a new one.) As for something practical: your black book with all the people you've got dirt on or maybe a deck of cards. Can't beat a deck of cards. |
Welcome to Northeast Ohio. My parents still live in Warren, which is right by Youngstown and about fifteen minutes from the PA border.
I think you'll find alot of things to do - especially with a family. Playhouse Square in Cleveland is second only to New York. You'll almost surely have your own minor league baseball team in the area you live. The Northeast Ohio area is very diverse culturally, lots of soul food, authentic Mexican, good Chinese, etc. If you like to shop, the oulet malls at Grove City (just across the border in PA) are an unbelievable place to spend a few days. The MetroPark system is truely amazing, but you'll be living closer to parks like Nelson Ledges State Park (girlfriend and I just went there a couple weeks ago). Nelson is an old rock quarry converted into a park, and if you have kids that love to climb things, its a must. We have a nicer lake system the the rest of the state, if you like to do that sort of thing, there are many options. What to pack? I second the knife that clavus suggested. Don't forget to take pictures of your old place! Pictures are a great way to show young ones where they came from. Make sure you find room for some things that are special to you and your family. You know, the things that really have no value except that they are yours and you love them? Those things. You can't buy those back at WalMart. Finally, always feel free to pm me if you have any questions about the area or any questions about things to do, things to do with kids, questions about school districts, just anything. I have lived in the area for twenty-five years and I'll be happy to answer your questions. |
What should you take? hmmmmm.....
A big hug and kiss ready for your sweetie when you get there.....a good attitude and a ready smile! :) Enjoy your new life! |

The state is very similar to PA, just with lower vehicle standards. There are a lot of classic old style towns, and older roads. Helps give you the feel of of history. And since you'll be living so close to PA , that gives you access to a lot more then most will have. (If norther edge of ohio, you gots Cleveland and Erie; middle you have Youngstown and Pittsburgh/GroveCity (good mall outlet i suggest going to)) End cap: Ohio - great if you love peace |
Enh. They've got stores in Ohio.
Better to get yourself and the things you can't replace (the cat, for instance) on the road in one piece and worry about material possessions once you get there. I've got to say, cdwonderful and sierra2274, I'm REALLY touched by the two of you, and the life you're taking on and creating for yourselves and each other. GO GUYS! |
I want to thank you all. This will be my last post from the dead zone. I leave tonight for ohio! Thanks again all of you.
