There's some failed logic here--you demonstrated that you don't understand how grading works on these tests. The IQ test you took might not have even been an actual IQ test, do you remember the name of it?

I take the actual test in May, so I would like to have enough pattern practices, and also do some refresher stuff with math and vocab. Any suggestions?
Some people take these sorts of tests for fun, so I was mainly asking if anyone has tried any that they like.

Jesus, snorting amphetamines to get in to a braniac club doesn't sound like the way to go.

well the saying "you're not doing your best unless you're cheating" came from somewhere didn't it? i don't condone the use of drugs under any circumstances other than those prescribed by a doctor/common sense (gargling listerine to kill strep), but i dont know how dedicated PL is to getting into the MENTAL club or whatever

Depends if this imaginery person sits at home and and orders around an imaginery cabinet, or if he turns up at the white house and wants to be let into the Oval Office, eh?

Oh, and once youre in MENSA you'll have to not use terms like "retarded"... its not really seen as political correct.

Does anyone else find it ironic that SF is lecturing on political correctness?

I know I do.

Yeah yeah, well I'm not in Mensa either. hahaha.

Fixed the grammar when I realized I couldn't read my own statement. I hate when that happens.

To the OP: LP, I say go for it. Will it be everything you wanted it to be? Probably not. Will you find it rewarding if you do? Probably. You passed a smart test, you are not stupid, go YOU! I mean that without any sarcasm, I'd feel that way if I passed it. If it makes you feel better, then do it. No harm in that.

ok LP i have a new idea. I must say, this is a really whacky idea that only some twisted, primordial, and ultimately base to the Nth degree "human" would ever do, you don't need me to tell you that, but what about studying with someone who is already in the treehouse/blanket fort you're trying to get in to? that way they can tell you what to expect, and you can study based on what they've been tested on.

That would be great, but I think it would be difficult to find one. They're all very antisocial and don't go outdoors much. Not sure how I could lure one out--maybe walking down the street shaking a boggle cube.

maybe there are chapters of MRSA near you or something that you could look up and get in contact with a few members?

Why's that? Are you trying to imply I am not politically correct?

I am a modern person, and take care not to offend people, just because I might have a bit of banter in the office about gay sex doesnt mean I'm insensitive.

If I was gonna make comments on other man's intelligence, I'd wait to see what I scored though... when he comes back with his IQ at 160, then maybe he can talk of "retards" who think they are kings, and can only score an IQ of 142...

Making fun of someone about how they are gay (in doing so telling someone that being gay is "wrong" or "inferior") is politically incorrect. You are downing a sexual culture to make fun of you co-worker.

Wearing a shirt out in public that reads, "Women are property" just to get people to notice you is politically incorrect AND real life trolling

So, yeah... Let's break down the joke. You post anti-gay and anti-women statements all over the board and then you lecture someone on being PC. Yeah... let me check that... Yep, that's ironic.

I stand by my statement.

How could I possibly be anti gay? My own mother is a lesbian.

To be honest thats simply just silly.

Anti-woman? I cant think of anything further from the truth. You couldnt find one example of me posting an anti-woman statement here or anywhere else. The shirt I wore was just a silly joke when I was young. Some girls who saw it would roll their eyes or call me a wanker, but I never met anyone who found it offensive.

As an employer I frequently hired female staff. I am the kind of person who always holds open doors or offers my seat on the train to a lady. To call me a sexist is just evidence that you are no longer basing anything you say to me in reality, you are just trying to annoy me for the sake of it. I have no idea why though?

Quoted for truth. It's sometimes hard to find a conversation that doesn't dwell on professional sports, crabgrass, or television shows. The two Mensa members that I know (one's an engineer, the other a musician) don't fit any of the stereotypes in this thread.

When I was in 7th grade, I had a wonderful opportunity to go to a summer camp sponsored by the gifted education resource institute. Up until that point, I was in advanced classes for some of my schooling, but generally forced to mix with people who made me feel like shit for being smart. I was ostracized and made to feel like something was very wrong with me by the people I interacted with. I didn't realize at the time that people generally don't like realizing someone is functioning on a different level than they are. And really, I don't blame them.

When I got to the camp, I met many people who were there for the same reason I was--we scored in the top 2% of our standardized testing and qualified to study at this camp. It was academic-based, but we all had a lot of fun goofing off and acting silly during our free time. Finally, people who I didn't have to pretend to be stupid in front of just to fit in! We could talk, share ideas, metaphors, dreams, and our new-found sexualities.

Since 7th grade, I've been through a lot of shit that could make it difficult for me to qualify for such a thing again--I have some chronic medical issues, I dropped out of high school, I did my fair share of drugs, I have been jumping from one severely stressful situation to another for the past 8 years. I know that I'm smart enough, I'm not doing this to prove anything to anyone. I just hope that I would perform well enough to be able to make it in, because it's worth something to me.

Now, I'm stuck in corporate hell, making good money with good benefits. I'm having to network with people. They had me join the chamber of commerce (for a $50 yearly fee, I will add), to talk to people about sales and shit that I am not exactly passionate about, but which I am good enough at to make money doing it. The mensa thing is for me. So that I can have a bit of an outlet finally getting to have a resource to find people who I know are as smart as or smarter than I am, who can relate to my "smart-people problems" and who want to get together and do things.

Perhaps I'm being idealistic. And maybe it's just that I haven't gotten to try for anything really hard in my life before. I don't feel that my reasoning is wrong.
Thanks for telling you story! Go for it! Give it your best shot and take pride in yourself if you get in. If you don't get in, take pride in yourself for the effort you put into it, and for having the courage to stretch yourself, and for your willingness to fail. Best of luck.
