What make of watch you wear?
Ive never had anything but Timex's since I was 16 or so... each one cost about £30/$50 and lasted 3/4 years.... (and each time its the strap that goes, or else I fancy a change, not the watch itself)

I have a Seiko, a Swiss Army and one from Ted Baker. They were all either birthday or Christmas presents.
I wear my Seiko the most.

Freestyle or G-Shock. Strictly utilitarian. I've been meaning to get a classy watch but it just doesn't fit with my lifestyle.

I don't wear a watch at all. Don't care for them.
Plus, they're kind of pointless these days, aren't they? I mean, cars have clocks, computers have clocks, phones have clocks...

There's a Calvin & Hobbes strip where Calvin gets a new watch and laments the fact that the watch doesn't tell you what month it is. Hobbes observes that if you don't know what month it is, you probably aren't the type to wear a watch. I definitely fall into that category
Every so often, however, I decide that I will be a "Watch Person." This usually goes along with my "I will act like a grown up and be responsible" moods. When those strike, I'll almost always go for Timex... I like very simple and classy looking watches. With Indiglo. Like this:

I forgot to wear my watch to work on Friday and I felt naked. I hate carrying my phone with me so I never knew what time it was.
For those people who are attached to their cell phones I can see how a watch is pointless (as a time keeping device), but for the rare ones like myself who hate having a cellphone in their hands watches are nice. |

I have to have my cell on me at all times at work, and I'm a creature of habit, so cell is always in the front right pocket. Keys in the rear right pocket, wallet in the front left. Flashlight, if I have one on me, also in the front left.

It's been my feeling that cellphones are untethered and breakable--disposable technological trinkets.
They're not a serious everyday carry ("EDC") substitute for a utilitarian wristwatch like the $100 G-Shock. Last edited by Plan9; 03-27-2011 at 10:23 AM.. |

Some Kenneth Cole watch I grabbed from Macy's. It's leather, so it doesn't pull out my arm hair. It's amazing that in 2011 an analog watch still can't keep track of the days of the month. I have to reset the damned thing every first of the month.

I have a few Fossil watches, and several others, but recently I've been wearing a chronograph watch branded "Maine", which I seem to remember was bought from Debenhams (a department store in the UK) several years ago for about £40.
I'm always looking for a new watch though. I love watches.

Casio. Usually the G-Shock. It works, and works well. Very utilitarian and tough. Only paid $65 for it. Have had this particular one for 3 years. The one prior to that lasted 7 years before I lost it. It was still running great when I misplaced it.

Haven't worn a watch for years. I use the clock on my cell phone, or else I don't care.

I could buy an expensive watch, but I really don't see the point. I have a Timex analog/digital with a black face. The digital display can be turned off to make the watch look classier. With a suit or tux, a simple Skagen.

I have some nice watches in a box somewhere. I have a nifty Casio G-Shock and a dressy-looking gold-tone Timex.
I used to have my father's old watch, which had to be wound by hand every day. I don't really wear a watch now. I did for a while when I had my old cell phone, as it would turn itself off, forget while it was off that it was set to silent, and since certain classrooms on my university campus did not have clocks, I wore a watch. But my current cell phone does not have this issue, so I don't need one.

I have another minimalist, extra formal leather strap watch. But I never wear it.

I used to have a nice Fossil for casual days but it was lost in a jet ski accident and I find that I don't have the desire to wear a watch on casual days anyways. I now have a very nice but simple Citizen that I love and I wear it a lot for work or other professional occasions. I got in the habit when I was working at a bank and everything I signed had to have a time and date.

Skagen.
Stainless steel. Waterproof. Nearly indestructable. Beautiful design. My husband gave me this watch, and I feel naked on the rare occasion that I forget to put it on in the morning. I can wear it to fancy occasions and yet it is sturdy enough to be put through any amount of casual fitness activity.

I can't wear watches on a daily basis. They either end up broken or lost, and the one that didn't had the electronics go all wacky on me. When it's time for the suit or tux, I wind up my great grandfather's Lord Elgin pocket watch and wear it like a proper gentleman. It's not something I would risk carrying around daily, though.

Yes I have a cell phone. Yes I stare at a computer all day at work. Yes my desk phone has a clock. I like watches though, and I have a couple of different ones. My favorite is a Fossil watch my mother got me for Christmas when I was in college. It's still ticking and it's special to me.
I have a cheap digital watch I use when working out or when I helped coach a HS rugby team. It's much more helpful during such activities than a cell phone would be. |

this is essentially my trekking watch that has become my every watch because of its versatility and because of its light weight.
comes in handy at altitude and while trekking, gives me the time, altitude temperature, barometer reading in case of storms and rain, as well as compass. the only thing missing is a GPS.

i cheap electronic casio. i used to hate wearing watches until i got to basic training and they took away our phones. after that, wearing a watch became easier and now i'm used to it. i don't bother with an expensive watch because if i'm training, it'll just get beat up.
basically, my only requirement was it had to be electronic so i can time myself on runs, have a plastic band and water resistant so it can be washed easily, and have a big illumination button. i hate trying to find a small button in the dark. this is my watch
