Man convicted of holding 5 women as sex slaves, gets 18 to life
http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/07/15/ca....ap/index.html
Ex-handyman who admitted keeping sex slaves is sentenced Tuesday, July 15, 2003 Posted: 12:25 PM EDT (1625 GMT) SYRACUSE, New York (AP) -- A retired handyman who admitted keeping five women as sex slaves in an underground bunker in his back yard was sentenced Tuesday to 18 years to life in prison. County Judge Anthony Aloi ignored a plea for leniency from John Jamelske's lawyer, who asked for a penalty of 15 years to life. "You are a sick coward. You are an evil man. You are a kidnapper and rapist, a master manipulator of people and the truth, but your reign of terror is over," Aloi told Jamelske. Jamelske cried in court and apologized: "I'm sorry for what I did and how it affected everyone." Jamelske, 68, pleaded guilty last month to kidnapping five women and girls and holding them as sex slaves between 1988 and 2003 in a concrete bunker he built 3 feet underground, behind his home in DeWitt, a Syracuse suburb. Aloi said Jamelske "should die in prison for what you have done to these five women." Each count carried a maximum penalty of 25 years to life in prison, which meant Jamelske could have served up to 125 years behind bars if convicted at trial and sentences were combined. You are a kidnapper and rapist, a master manipulator of people and the truth, but your reign of terror is over. -- Judge Anthony Aloi Jamelske told authorities he began seeking out girls and women in 1988, after his wife became bedridden and couldn't satisfy his sexual urges. She died in 1999. Jamelske was arrested in April after his most recent victim, a 16-year-old girl, managed to call her sister when Jamelske took her out on errands after six months of captivity. After Jamelske's arrest, police identified four other women who said he had abducted and raped them since 1988. The victims ranged in age from 13 to 53 and were held in the bunker from two months to three years. The bunker is linked to Jamelske's home by a steel door, hidden behind tens of thousands of empty bottles and cans, that led to a series of crawl spaces and doors. Deputies who searched the house said they found photographs of women chained to a wall. They also say they found diaries Jamelske forced his victims to keep, recording details such as when they were raped, when they showered and when they brushed their teeth. This world knows some sick people. But it's fitting he'll end up behind bars after imprisoning those poor women. They should just put a big black man named Bubba as his cellmate.

I think the phrase "reign of terror" is way overused. He had a good line going, but he had to waste it with that damn cliche.
Oh well, you cant really be shocked about anything nowadays. There is probably shit like this going on at all times, but the right people haven't been caught yet. This sorta reminds me of Silence of the Lambs.

Straight out of 'Kiss the Girls'... Glad the judge threw the book at him, but in a case like this he had no choice.
Not only sick but stupid, what did he think she would do if he sent her out on errands...

Heh, I think that if this judge has anything to do with his parole, he's going to be in that prison until he's dead.

Its times like these that make think of the Bloodhound Gang's song......
"I hope your cell mate thinks he's God, But CNN refers to him as 'Bowling ball bag Bob', Serving time again for abuse of a corpse, Only this time the victims a Clydesdale horse. While he masturbates to photos of livestock, he does the 'Silence of the lambs' dance to christian rock, eats feces and quotes from Deliverance, and fights with his imaginary playmate Vince. I hope he grins like Jack Nicholson, and forces you to play a game called "balls on chin." And whatever happens next is a blur, but you remember 'fist' can be a verb. And when you finally regain consciousness you're bound an gagged in a wedding dress. The prison guard looks the other way cause he's the guy you flipped the bird the other day...." I hope all of that happens to him and any others like him.

Normally I would think that only having to serve 18 years is a travesty. In this guys case however, I suspect that he might not live long after getting out of jail.
He should be castrated.

I think he should have his arms and legs cut off, his penis eaten by a dog, and thrown into a pool of acid, then just before he could die, bring him out, and repeat. wow, only 18 years! and what reallly sucks is i read an article about some guy getting life just for spitting on a cop.

OK so I agree with all you guys completely! The thing I don't understand, and maybe it's just late and I'm sleepy or something, so hopefully one of you guys can explain it... OK so he kidnapped these women... and held them for a certain amount of time, 10 months, 2 years, 6 months etc.; So... he just let them go after he did all this, just let them lose? So why now are women starting to come up and say things, after this one young girl called him on it? I mean this isn't JUST a rape issue, I mean it's torture, and kidnapping too. SO this woman from five years ago didn't go start to police after he let her go?
They really didn't say anything about this at all! Can someone help me out? To me there is a gap missing... I mean I could understand if it was just rape, because I know that a lot of women don't go to the police after being raped because they feel embarassed and all the other guilty feelings that come with it. But this was SOOOO much more than rape! hmmm

I don't think there is any punishment that this man can receive that would be fair to these women for what they went through.
As far as I understood it - they were all released when this one woman managed to call for help. If I misread this as the women has been released they possibly thought that there was no one who would believe them. Besides the fact that he may have threatened them. In that kind of situation the psychological manipulation is tremendous. The woman truely believes that if she tells he can and will come back after her. Besides - if someone has gone through that kind of thing who would want to have to relate it again and again as they would when telling the police and then in court and then to the psychologist. Some believe it's better if they just try to forget it. Even if they hadn't been free until this girl managed to get help then the damage done to them is so great that there is nothing that this man can pay or do that will rectify what these women have gone through. I just hope that he never gets out and that he is left to the "justice" that the prisoners may pay him. My heart goes out to those women. I hope they can move on and that this doesn't follow them wherever they go.
