A Change Is Gonna Come ...

2011 is almost here. No eye rolling allowed, but I've always thought the bandwagon of empty resolutions was rather lacking. Whether you call it corny, cliche, lame or uncool, each year is a new blank slate. That unknown allows us the privilege to create how things will be. You are what you wish for, so to speak.

With that in mind, what's going to change in your world? What are you totally driven to accomplish this year?

For me, only two goals. I will become healthier both physically and emotionally.

1. Better eating habits and consistent exercise.

2. Become more social -- get out!

Yours?

Amaras 12-31-2010 08:19 AM

1. Get back to A.A., get clean again.
2. Buy a car

Plan9 12-31-2010 08:31 AM

1. Get a better job. My current job is totally nowhere near where I want to be when I'm X0 years old.

2. Commit to this relationship or just deal with the fact that my career path promotes being single.

3. Pick up a language. I discovered that I remembered a lot of German when I was there, need to use it.

The usual running goals still apply: finish a marathon, have a threesome, ride my motorcycle more.

I usually save my resolutions for Lent. I find things stick better if I make them a Lenten rule.

But until that time rolls around, I want to get back on the eating right and exercising schtick I kinda lost after my wedding in August.

1. navigate the obstacles of the coming year by making the right choices. even when I don't want to.

2. avoid new love relationships and the reconciliation of old ones.

3. listen to my mother.

4. read books for fun and not just school.

5. pick up yoga again. for my aching neck, my battered heart and my spinning mind.

6. quit smoking for good.

I want to continue to face my fears and conquer them. I don't want fear to rule my life any more.

Always a good idea. I'm going to have to remember this one myself.

I promise myself that I'll start into yoga.

I sort of recall somebody once said yoga is ninety percent mental and the other half is physical. I've already started on the mental part so I'm almost done already even though I haven't ever started yet!

To actually do the album I promised to do.
Release date = end of April.
At this moment, I ....

[Happy new year, everybody ... it's 12:51 here n London :)]

At this moment, with a glass of Cava given to me for Christmas by my ex-girlfriend and dance-partner, I'm not even sure that I'm the person who CAN do it, if that makes sense. I set myself the task in the hope that that would 'drive me'. I jolly well hope it does.

The overture was taking shape, for the first time, earlier today. Still don't actually Believe that I'll do it.

However ... that's what I want to to. That's what I've set myself to do.

And I wish all success and smooth process to the rest of you with your choices.

All the best :)

Since the year turning over means right next to nothing, besides all our counting, beneath where we care...change will come within us or it won't come at all.

(My haiku are stupid:

What the "new" year brings
is the future from the past
IF you're listening.)

Any resolutions I've made are without distinction.

thedoc 12-31-2010 08:22 PM

Just to continue enjoying the company of 3 of my grandchildren 4 days a week, When my 1 year old grandaughter sits on my lap and laughs and smiles at me, I can't think of anything better.

PS. the 3 of them are staying over nite with us tonight. 2 are already asleep and it's not midnight yet here.

Calendar pages torn off, yes. Hokey religion about a bigger number, yes. "Bah! Humbug!" and only a few days too late.

Sometimes it's okay to believe in magic. I agree with your sentiment but I think it's okay to use symbols to reinforce the desire for positive growth and change. It's a system. No different than folding your socks or using Post-Its to remind you to get milk at the store. It serves as a reminder.

Dedication and consistency are the key. I do the things that I do so I can be the person I want to be.

You know, a better dickless moron.

I keep wanting to take this way too literally and post a sermon about "those who have" and the empty space inside your chest.

Cut back on Diet Cola. Two a week at most is my goal.

Less harping on my son about bad behavior and trying to measure my responses.

PonyPotato 01-01-2011 05:06 PM

1. Run a marathon (on the calendar for April 30 - Flying Pig)
2. Complete an olympic-length triathlon
3. (maybe) complete a half-iron duathlon
4. Start graduate school (September)
5. Have at least 2 game nights at my own place where more than 4 other people show up.
6. Read at least 4 books for pleasure that are not assigned in a class.
7. Go camping at LEAST once! (probably in TN with E early this spring)

That's not a resolution itself, that's a consequence for a really good resolution.
