If you have pop-up blockers on, you should occassionally check to see if you have any private messages because they may be, you know, important. Espeically if the person sending them did so about something you've done wrong.

Never heard this one before, but I absolutely love it

Also,
Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you ... as by the attitude you bring to life.

Strange Famous 01-23-2011 02:37 PM

always know how you will get quickly out of any room in your house in the event of a fire, especially upstairs bedrooms. Always have means for you and anyone who lives in your house who is old enough to understand to break and get out of the window if you need to. (rope ladders cost next to nothing)

might save your life one day, and if make sure all your kids do this, it might save one of their lives, or one of your grandkids, you get the idea...

Those that don't demand their rights don't have any. -US Supreme Court

Delaying the decision is worse than making the wrong decision. You can usually fix wrong decisions. You can't fix indecision.

"Imagination is more important than knowledge." -Albert Einstein

"Imagination is just madness wearing a nice shirt" -Me

"Human salvation lies in the hands of the creatively maladjusted." -Martin Luther King, Jr.

Never let the world grind you down into homogeny, all greatness in this world has come from what was at the time considered madness. I don't mean the small-time crazy that lives in it's own little world inside someone's head... I mean the real stuff, I'm talking about the kind of crazy that stands up and says "No." and changes everyone ELSE'S world too.

But even beyond that being mature, productive, or classy simply does not necessitate being boring and unhappy. Pay attention to children, they know the real priorities. I mean think about it... when was the last time you saw a butterfly? Do you even remember? Did you stop to watch? What about a four leaf clover, how recently have you combed over a clover patch looking for one?

These are the simple things we lose when we become too concerned with great matters of consequence that are of no great consequence at all, and with their loss we also lose a very important spart that can lead to greatness in our lives. The guy that gets the promotion for coming up with the phenomenal solution is seldom the guy that never jumps in the fountain when it's 90 degrees and his bus home is late. Never let someone tell you that one person can't make a difference, that you can't change the world. The Jews say that he who destroys a life has destroyed an entire world... the same is true in reverse. When you change one life you have changed an entire world, their world. And perhaps yours as well.

"We can live without religion and meditation, but we cannot survive without human affection." -the 14th Dalai Lama

By that same token remember what else is really important in life. Spending too much time working to provide for your family isn't going to be worth anything if you lose your family for that very same reason. The same with your friends.

Violence is the last resort of the unintelligent and the unimaginative

If there's something wrong and you have the ability to take action then you have a responsibility to take action.

"There is no justice, there's Just Us."

Going back to the first point... it really does just take one person to change the world. One person to stand up and say "this is wrong", one to share a Dream, One person to ask if at long last someone has left no sense of decency, or One person to ask us to be their neighbor when we are all alone in the night.

In spiritual growth, it is important to avoid imbalances between academic or intellectual learning and practical implementation. Otherwise there is a danger that too much intellectualization will kill the more contemplative practices and too much emphasis on practical implementation without study will kill the understanding. There has got to be a balance.
—Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama

People will go to a hotel bar with others for lots of reasons, but there's only one reason anyone goes to a hotel bar alone, and it's not the $14 martinis.

This is really good advice. While we're on safety, never assume someone else has called 911 (or 999, etc. depending on your local emergency number.)

stop taking embarrassing pictures of people and putting them online, b/c you're ruining all the fun.

EventHorizon 01-30-2011 09:16 AM

before you die:

build a lego with a kid
raise a puppy
do something for a friend for no reason other than they put up with your shit
love someone
go fishing
get VERY drunk (or get drunk first and then go fishing)
fight someone
finish a game of monopoly
host a superbowl party
hug a dying relative like you miss them already, then get them drunk and take them fishing
get your heart broken
pet the dog that you raised as a pup gently when it gets too old and has to be put down
make an important 50-50 decision on the toss of a coin (hasn't failed me yet)
talk to a veteran
have children
vote
wipe after conducting business on the porcelain throne
replenish the toilet paper if it runs out

there are some more but i cant think of them
