coolest boys names

Quote:

disclaimer: before ya'll even think about it, no im not having any kids right now. somwhere down the track, who knows, but not right now.
anyways, i just wanted to see what the 'coolest' boys name are out there.

i know a lot of these names would be subjective, but throw whatever names you think is cool into the middle and see what kind of weird and wonderful names we can come up with.

Chuck - One of my favourites. it conjures up immages of Mr Norris himself. and of course if its good enough for Chuck Norris, its good enough for me.

jewels 12-18-2010 10:49 AM

Chuck? Blecccchhh! :p

I kinda like Liam.

dlish 12-18-2010 10:52 AM

a friend of mine was having a boy a few months ago.

i thought and recommended that maximus would be a cool name. she wasnt very amused.

amonkie 12-18-2010 10:59 AM

I really love the name Bryce, and not just because it is my dad's middle name.

I like something that is a little unique, but still easy to pronounce and spell. I would even go so far to say this name could actually be gender neutral, because I would actually love to use it for my first kid, whether boy or girl.

Punk.of.Ages 12-18-2010 11:14 AM

Before Jen and I found out we were having a girl we were thinking of names for both genders so we knew what we would name the baby either way.

If it had been a boy we were going to name him Luke. I've never met a Luke who was not a very cool person.

One of my college buddies is named Bryce. He's a very cool dude.

I also like Liam. I've known a lot of cute little boys named Liam. It seems to be popular right now.

I won't share the name I've picked out for a boy's name. I don't want anyone to steal it. It's pretty unique--I've only known two people with it, and one of them is my husband's grandfather.

I also really like the name Ethan--to me, it could be gender-neutral. Every Ethan I've known has been really laid-back and easy-going.

hunnychile 12-18-2010 12:28 PM

I really like James or even better, Jake. They are very masculine, strong names. My favorite when I was going to get preggers was going to be James Jeffrey. Sadly, never got prego - so didn't need a name.

Every Gen X person I know has a son named "Liam" these days.

Another name I like is Zubin...but the hub thought it was too Jewish. Although our last name is very Jewish! ...and yet, we aren't!

I have a buddy who named his son 'Hadrian.'

I always thought 'Shadow' would be a good name for a boy

cj2112 12-18-2010 12:48 PM

Chuck may very well be the coolest name ever. Then again. I may be just a little biased. My son goes by his initials, CJ, except he spells it CJay.

uncle phil 12-18-2010 01:19 PM

phil?

mayflow 12-18-2010 01:27 PM

Bruce Lee! :-)

ps Why are you trying to steal the joy out of pig wrestling when neither the pigs nor I are complaining! - and just what in the world do you find bad about dirt?

it's both a a subjective and a spiritual thing, drawn from deep within my psyche...

I concur with James. It's my dad's name and my son's middle name. I wanted to call my son James, but somehow he ended up going by his initials (another CJ!). I'm also partial to Jack.

One of the characters in a vivid dream I had a couple weeks ago is named Shadow.

Well, ok then, you don't have to wrestle with pigs. Leaves more pigs for me! :)
(well and for others who enjoy the pig wrestling thingy!:))

I know that Jesus is quoted as having said not to cast your pearls before the swine but he also seems to have been a pig hater. There is an inherent injustice in my own Spiritual nature in not loving dirt and pigs as well as all other things.

Lindy 12-18-2010 02:34 PM

I have strong views on this because I hate my given name (Sophia) so much. But SoPhia would be worse.
Do incipient parents actually think that giving their child an unusual or off the wall name will make the child more "cool" or special? And conversely that naming a child something like Mary or Bill will doom them to a life of mediocrity?
Will twenty first century Georges, Franklins, Catherines, and Theresas (if you can find any) be dullards due to their names?

Quoted for truth! We become such lemmings in the pursuit distinction!:shakehead:

Must names (especially girl's names) now be clever, contrived, and/or ...precious to be considered?

Throw out all spelling conventions and have Bayleee, Sidni, Jaxon, Raegen, Emerzon, Chrystyne, etc.
Or throw an extra capital letter in there someplace: BritKnee, MarQuis, ShayLee, LilyOndra, etc.
Or we could apos'trophyze as well: Ja'Von, Ga'Nieyah, Adrien'ne ??

OK, rant over. Apologies thrown out in advance. Indulge yourselves.:)

Will is a powerful name when used carefully. I'm quite thankful for it. Other great names might be Archer, Sawyer, Ty, Zane, Lex, Colt, Heath, and Locke.

ZombieSquirrel 12-18-2010 06:47 PM

If I squeeze out a male child I'd like to name him Edward, after my father. I think my older brothers called dibs. They're convinced they'll have little girls though. My sis-in-law had an uncle Ed and hated him. She told me she'd try to argue against the name.

I like my maternal grandfather's name, Lewis. My choice for male child name would be Edward Lewis ZombieSquirrel-BabyDaddy

I love my brothers, so if I don't get to name a child Edward, I'd probably name it after my brothers. Most likely Joseph after my oldest brother.

I have a feeling the sperm donor (aka father) will want a say in the matter.

I do NOT want girls. I know I can't really do much, but I really don't have a desire to raise a girl. There are soooo many girls in our family, so I believe it when my brothers say they'll most likely have females.

dlish 12-18-2010 07:01 PM

well dont move to new zealand. they have a tendancy for weird names by the looks of it.

this story broke a few years ago (2008) and made worldwide news. i found it quite amusing. even funnier i thought was the name 'No. 16 bus shelter'

BBC NEWS | Asia-Pacific | NZ judge orders 'odd' name change

Quote:

A judge in New Zealand made a young girl a ward of court so that she could change the name she hated - Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii.

Judge Rob Murfitt said that the name embarrassed the nine-year-old and could expose her to teasing.

He attacked a trend of giving children bizarre names, citing several examples.

Officials had blocked Sex Fruit, Keenan Got Lucy and Yeah Detroit, he said, but Number 16 Bus Shelter, Violence and Midnight Chardonnay had been allowed.
One mother wanted to name her child O.crnia using text language, but was later persuaded to use Oceania, he said.

'Social handicap'

The ruling, in the city of New Plymouth on the North Island, was handed down in February but only made public now.
UNUSUAL NAMES
Allowed: Violence; Number 16 Bus Shelter; Midnight Chardonnay; Benson and Hedges (twins)
Blocked: Yeah Detroit; Stallion; Twisty Poi; Keenan Got Lucy; Sex Fruit; Fat Boy; Cinderella Beauty Blossom; Fish and Chips (twins)
The name issue emerged during a custody hearing for the young girl - who had refused to tell her friends her name and went simply by "K".

"The court is profoundly concerned about the very poor judgment which this child's parents have shown in choosing this name," Judge Murfitt wrote.

"It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap, unnecessarily."

Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii's name has now been changed and the custody case resolved, court officials said.

New Zealand does not allow names that would cause offence or that are longer than 100 characters, Registrar-General Brian Clarke said.

Officials often tried to talk parents out of particularly unusual choices that could embarrass their offspring, the Associated Press news agency quoted him as saying.

ratbastid 12-18-2010 08:29 PM

Stella and I are working on replicating ourselves. She's recently become enamored of the name "Phineas". I don't know what to do with her sometimes.

noodle 12-18-2010 09:02 PM

If I come across another Aiden, Ayden, Aydin, Austin, or Austen, I'm going to cry. Edward is becoming more popular because of the Twilight silliness.

I've always liked Ethan, Teague, Micah, Jake (not so much Jacob), and Erich.
And Roark. that poor kid would be mocked forever, though, it's more of a man's name than a boy's.

amonkie 12-18-2010 09:12 PM

Julia Roberts named one of her kids Phineas. is she a Julia Roberts fan?

Does anyone else spend more time eliminating names rather than actually picking ones, due to name associations?

Fremen 12-18-2010 09:30 PM

I always thought Jupiter was a cool name, but it doesn't go well with my last name.
My brother and sister went with the pretentious-sounding Dalton, Austin, Trenton and Hayden for their sons. I rolled my eyes at the lot of them.

I like Charlie, but not Charles.
Although I would never use it, I do like saying Aloysius.
I like Mac, but I don't know what I'd like for the rest of the name.
Hell, I wouldn't mind having a Daniel, Jr. We didn't have a lot of them around here, so it was almost unique.
One last one...Zebulon. ;P

Edit: I forgot about Hal. I had a friend named Hal Walker in grade school. I always liked his name.

I KNOW! I'm freaking PISSED OFF because of this. I also used to like the name Jacob. Grrrrrrrrrr.

dlish 12-19-2010 12:06 AM

im surprised no one has mentioned muhammed, ahmed or mustafa yet. my family is full of those names.

i chose a jewish name for my son ( yeah i know...go figure) but i didnt really get a say in it, but i wasnt agianst it. she-lish wanted to follow the biblical name lineage in her family.

i got dibs on the next one.

i kinda of like Jupiter. but we dont have the letter P in arabic, so i dont know how im going to get around that one.

flat5 12-19-2010 06:14 AM

Rumpleforskin

dlish 12-19-2010 08:15 PM

flat5 is that for your daughter or son?

flat5 12-20-2010 03:59 AM

I didn't know females had foreskins.
It's a name I thought of in the 1970s for a band.
Everybody jumping around in penis suits.
Never produced :-)

So, son.

Yes, Luke is cool. Lucas or Luukas here, but that sounds more biblical. Lucky Luke was my childhood favorite cartoon.

When I was young, still single adult, I was made this "thingy" girls do with string and needle, spin above their hand to see, if they will get girls or boys in the future. Result was, I will get three boys. I was quite pleased, as I didn't get along too well with my mother, so I decided it would be much better, if I didn't get a daughter myself.

After two sons, I thought the third one can't be anything else than a boy, but I was pleasantly surprised with a daughter. Now it's up to me to build our relationship to such, she does not grow up disliking her mother... :)

Latex Ren 12-20-2010 04:27 AM

I get an emotional twinge over Cody, Ryan, Trevor, Tanner, and Justin.

Of course 'Will' is the best name but that's already been stated.

redwolf 12-20-2010 09:12 AM

If I ever have a son i'm naming him Bruce Wayne Lee. Nobody is messy with that kid.

Lindy 12-20-2010 11:06 AM

My boyfriend, who is from Sweden, has Sigurd as his given name. (I call him my Sig other):)
Sigurd is not in very common usage today but is (with variants Sigmund, Siegfried, etc.) a traditional male Scandanavian name. He tells me that in Sweden you call your child anything you want, but must register an "acceptable name" with the government. Which led to this:
Swedish couple fined for naming their child "Brfxxccxxmnpcccclll mmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116" - Boing Boing

Or you could use Jove -different language, same god. The child's personality could be Jovian or Jovial, depending...

Lindy

snowy 12-20-2010 12:59 PM

I think it depends on where you live, Lindy--Sig is still a pretty common name in certain areas of the Puget Sound that were settled by Scandinavians.

Ananas 12-21-2010 02:14 PM

I've always liked Jude and Levon.

Another name I've liked, but would probably sound weird is Gilgamesh. Just love the sound of it.

dlish 12-21-2010 03:23 PM

Yeah she-lish is a fan of Jude.

It reminds me of Jude Law, who i dont particularly like as an actor, but dont particularly hate either. Im totally against naming after anything to do with entertainment celebrities (except for chuck norris cos hes a total legend).

Charlatan 12-21-2010 03:29 PM

We named our cat Chuck... but after Chuck Bartowski.

Oops, I had totally forgotten about Jude Law - can't say much about his acting because I don't think I've seen much of his work. Like you, I don't care for naming after celebrities or related characters, but other than Jude Law I don't know of anyone else with that name.

I liked the name for two reasons. The first is because of a Thomas Hardy novel, Jude the Obscure, and the second because of the Beatles song "Hey Jude." And yes, Chuck Norris is a legend. :)

hunnychile 12-21-2010 06:57 PM

For a guy: "Dylan", "Deacon" or "Jackson" are also pretty cool names...or even better, "Kid Charlemaine".

(yep, I'm out there this evening.
Must have been that Lunar Eclpise that got to me.) :) /finally!)

I work with a few folks with all of the above names, but they were all born in the middle east ... that may be the reason as a lot of the suggestions have been from North Americans. I had thought of some simple 'power' names when we were expecting our first born. But they were all shot down by my dearest. Adolf was a non-starter. Attila, while fairly common, was decidedly outside of our cultural milieu, as was Temujin.

Ended up with a very close race between Eric and Wolfgang. Since my cousin's name is Wolfgang, we went with Eric. My second son's name is Cameron. He thinks it's cool.

BadNick 12-21-2010 08:54 PM

I've always been very happy with my name. Plus I have not run into too many other guys named Nick so I like that, too. I also like my actual given name, Miklós, which is Hungarian for Nicholas.

As you might expect, Attila is a popular, strong Hungarian name. I have a couple of Attila cousins.
