revitalizing TFP
Not long a go, in a galaxy really really close by, we were told that we as members of TFP need to step our game up when it comes to getting discussions and whatnot to make to forum worthwhile. its a legitamate concern; who would want to pay for space on the internet if nobody's going to visit?
i think TFP could benefit from a massive influx of members, and what better way to attract hundreds of people daily than.... StumbleUpon. i dont know if TFP is already on stumbleupon, but if it isn't i think we should continue to promote the homepage. What suggestions does TFP have for a massive influx of members?

I'm not really sure I personally want to see a HUGE influx of new members-quality over quantity, and all that. But I do like your idea about promoting the forum elsewhere, be it Stumbleupon or whatnot.

We do log quite a bit of visitor traffic. The problem isn't neccessarily getting people to see the site, it's actually getting it from visitor to poster to active member.
Part of that transition requires there to actually be enough consistent activity on the board for it to feel like an alive place. One thread alone isn't going to make someone stay once they've had the 5 minutes reading what brought them to TFP in the first place.

actually what gets us best traffic are posts that are original and get picked up by bloggers and go viral from that point.
but like monkie said, it's a matter of conversion to have people want to stay from visitor to poster.

If you're subtle about how you work a TFP post into your Reddit / Digg / SA / Fark / porno forum post... you can bring decent traffic.
I know for a fact that Google brings in a load of people. The Skinny Jeans thread has like 20k+ hits. I'm guessing that's mostly Google. |

It's an interesting idea, but we've tried very similar things in the past without much success - success being defined as getting members that stick around and post.
9er's right, it can be done, but I think that it's more of a one-off than anything else. As soon as those in charge figure out that you're trying to drive traffic here, they usually stomp on it pretty quickly.

Mainly because you link to that back to here and you drive traffic of the sexually frustrated to our doorstep. Thanks, by the way.
