How do you post on TFP?

I've been around forums or awhile, but have yet to figure out how to efficiently post and browse.

I login, search new threads and reply to any of interest. Replying is what throws a wrench in the works. After posting it sends me back to the string I've posted in, but not to the list of threads I'd searched.
After replying, how do you get back to the 'searched threads'? I've tried the 'back' button, but to no avail. On TFP it just gives me a blank page, particularly if I 'time out' while posting. Which happens a lot.

The only way I've gotten around this, is if I open the thread I'm posting too in a new tab, leaving the existing 'thread search' open in the first tab.

How do you do it? Any tricks or short cuts?

Let's see whatcha' got.

I click on New Posts. Select a thread that interests me. If i don't post I just click on the back button to get back to the New Post results. If I post, I'll click on New Posts again. I suppose that would work for threads that I don't respond to also.

First, I keep myself signed in, and when I'm done. I log out. It's a good habit to have, because I sometimes will log on from a random computer, friend's house, library, cellphone, Apple Store.

It gives me a chance to see the site in many different settings and browsers.

That said, for posting, I reply to the thread and it takes me back to where I was in the thread. Because I'm logged on as remember me, I don't worry about timing out during my long thought out responses that can take longer than the time-out. So while there is a work around that someone will put up, if you don't close that window/tab, it's just like you checked the box.

For new posts, I generally use the Today's Posts in the Quick Links because it's consistently going to show me all the posts for the day.

I go to a sub-forum that I see has new posts, then read/reply to those that seem interesting. When I'm done, I just go back to that sub-forum from the forum jump drop-down menu, at the bottom of the page. Rinse, repeat.

I read what interests me, and if I feel my particular thought on the matter has not been voiced yet, then I'll pitch in; otherwise, I let others' words speak for themselves, yet on occasion, I'll add a resonant reply towards its inherent merit.

I use the New Posts top-button feature, but I also have a list of subscribed threads I have, which remain in my User CP. (it's a best-of, and on-going contributions; well over 100 subscribed threads I've garnered, as of this Sunday.) I also hear you can subscribe to particular whole parent forums (Tilted Paranoia, Tilted Life, Tilted Gaming) but I have not utilized this feature.

Additionally, I allow the 'tilted arrows' to help me (they show me where I've been) and make some use of the blue and red envelope distinctions.

In short, I make my way 'round to everything, and then I go 'alt + <-' and see what I might've missed.

Here's the workaround. First thing I do is open http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/online....e&pp=40&page=1 , to ensure that I don't get timed out.

Second, I search for any thread with postings that I have posted to myself, to see what else has happened in them and respond again if that would be useful. In each forum, I do a middle-click on the thread in order to open the thread in a new, background tab. I'll open 20 or 30 threads at a time this way, so by the time I get to the first tab, it is completely loaded.

Third, I hit Fun Zone to take care of the silliness in one swipe.

Fourth, I hit New Posts and look through those.

Fifth, I check the Blogs.

Sixth, I return to New Posts to see if anything new has happened while I was browsing Blogs.

I click on New Posts, then I use my mouse's scroller to click on the threads that look interesting, so I open up quite a few tabs of topics. Rinse and repeat.

I do the "new tab" thing, too... I'll hit either "new posts" or "today's posts," then every topic I want to read gets a new tab. Right now I have nine tabs open.

I do the command "http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/search.php?do=getdaily" so that it gives me a larger list of threads, read and not read. I open new tabs for all threads I want to read and close them as I go.

I also browse TFP on my phone using tapatalk app for the iphone.

First thing I do is middle-click the "New Posts" button so that I will always have a tab with the search I did when I first arrived.

Then I middle-click (mousewheel-click) threads I want to read or respond to based on their titles in the first page of new posts. By this point I have half a dozen or so tabs - I go through each one responding or reading as it were, and when I'm done I'm down to the New Posts tab I opened earlier. If there's more than one page of new posts, I'll advance the page and go about it. If there isnt', I might re-run New Posts and check for any responses or close it and go about my business.

I also refuse to buy a mouse without the forward/back buttons under my thumb, because I got hooked on it around Y2K and now I can't bring myself to actually CLICK a back or forward button in my browser. It feels so laborious compared to clicking with my thumb. If I'm at someone's computer that doesn't have said mouse (THE HORRORS) I still use backspace for Back and just don't use Forward..

I hit the new posts button once every 30 seconds or so. I post like a train wreck atop an active volcano. And edit my posts like 500 times.

No clue as to why I haven't been banned.

Imagine how quiet it we be in here - the horror!!

Me - I just click New posts and click into whatever catches my eye and reply if needed. I have enough tabs opened already - TFP only needs one.

I agree. I bought a wireless combo keyboard/mouse a couple of years ago, I'll never go back to wires or a 3 button mouse. I have the predecessor to this bad boy and love it. I haven't hit the 'back' button on the browser since I got it.

Huh. I use the Logitech Trackman Marbleball w/ Wheel. It's a thumb-operated trackball. I am probably the only guy on the planet that uses them.

I had a track ball years ago, but I kept getting thumb cramps. Guess I just surf too long.

BTW

The Quick links 'today's posts' and checking the 'remember me' box on sign in kick ass. No more time-outs.

I have one on my desktop computer. I love it. Picked it up cheap on closeout a few years ago. Works great as space is limited on the desk.

Ooh nice.. I'm using a Performance Mouse MX (without the thumbwheel) since my old Logitech failed after five years or so. They're great at making mice, that's for sure. And I like the Performance because it pairs with my keyboard on the 'unifying reciever' which is like the size of the tip of my finger and saves me a USB slot on my laptop when I use it..
