36 hours without Internet. What do you do?

Well, my cable modem was out for thirty-six hours for no apparent reason. I watched a baseball game for the first time in about two months, read part of my current book, listend to the radio, and drove around town.

If you didn't have Internet access, what would you do with that extra time in your day?

The_Dude 07-08-2003 06:18 PM

bah, i dont know! i just dont know.

wait a sec, you said w/o internet access. you can still play 1 player games (which i have a SHITLOAD of).

i dont know what i would do w/o my regular dose of tfp though!

i'd resort to tv for some time, and maybe even GO OUT!!

YourNeverThere 07-08-2003 06:21 PM

ill be internet-less for all next week, im going to miss everything on TFP GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Phaenx 07-08-2003 06:29 PM

Single player games, read, work, golf, see a movie, meet up with friends, etc. etc. etc.

tikki 07-08-2003 06:35 PM

My dad was going nuts without having Internet. He kept badgering me to fix it because he felt so out of place without it. It's amazing how it has injected itself into our daily lives.

I was tempted to go play golf, but it is so frigging humid.

MacGnG 07-08-2003 07:33 PM

video games, tv, sleep

oblar 07-08-2003 07:38 PM

i have this happen for months at a time when i visit my grandparents.. I go outside, read a book, garden a bit.

when at my house, i generally go meet up with friends, read a book, go play a game of disc golf, watch a movie.. There are lots of things to do.. and if all else fails there is always sleep!

juanvaldes 07-08-2003 07:42 PM

I went a month without DSL (as you know justin), what did I do? I bitched at SBC to get our connection back, did my summer class/homework, did some coding and then suffered with dialup.

it's not worth it. Going back to dialup is so painful after being spoiled with broadband for three years.

butthead 07-08-2003 07:51 PM

Begin seizing.

bermuDa 07-08-2003 07:51 PM

don't open the fridge when the power is out. The milk will spoil :)

GoldenOuroboros 07-08-2003 08:25 PM

What would I do.. go absolutley nutters!

sadistikdreams 07-08-2003 08:31 PM

hmn. probably 1-player games. And see a movie.

Nhanced1 07-08-2003 08:38 PM

I had to suffer without my dsl for three weeks, truthfully, I dont remember them as I tend to black out bad things from my memory. If it happened today, I probably would catch up on alot of homework (Taking a summer session :( ). Every time I leave an airconditioned environment here in Tucson, I get a little less rare and a little more well done. I wasn't too sure that I really lived in hell until a temperature of 111 was forcasted and when you walk outside you see that the mountians are on fire. but thats beside the point. Another thing you can do is sleep. I would probably just sleep for 16-20 hours at a time if i could. it would make up for all of those lost nights spent playing mmpog's and drinking high amounts of caffeine.

hotzot 07-08-2003 09:18 PM

I read and watch tv

crow_daw 07-08-2003 10:21 PM

I actually get out of the house and do stuff. I hang out with my friends alot, stuff like that.

thenewguy 07-08-2003 11:41 PM

Read a book, do other stuff on the computer, or just go outside (depending on the weather)

RelaX 07-08-2003 11:49 PM

Sort out all my files... it's amazing how much junk an 80 gb drive will hold. Last time I sorted out my files I ended up reducing 36gb of data to 22gb, just by weeding out some of the bigger files...

lurkette 07-09-2003 05:10 AM

Take a nap in the hammock, go for a walk with my dog, read, go to the gym, write a letter to a friend.

Bill O'Rights 07-09-2003 05:45 AM

Pour myself a glass of lemonade, grab my book, open the front door, walk outside, park my butt on the lounge chair, listen, for a moment, to the singing birds and the kids playing next door, then imerse myself.

Or...I guess I could mow the damned grass....nah.

Gortexfogg 07-09-2003 05:51 AM

When ever I don't have the internet for an extended period of time I become productive. I do things I've put off fors days or weeks. I'll clean, do stuff around the house, read, and eat healthier too (with extra time to fix food). Of course, when I get the internet back, that all goes out the window...

jujueye 07-09-2003 10:16 AM

Music music music! I would spend countless hours listening to music. Ahhh...........

Cynthetiq 07-09-2003 10:27 AM

have sex with my wife...

for at least 20 of those hours...

then i'd need to sleep for the last 16...

rogue49 07-09-2003 12:05 PM

read, watch a movie, excercise, etc.

My life is not defined by the web,
despite whatever time I invest into it.

bondagegirl 07-09-2003 12:10 PM

It's kind of scary that I can go 19 years without a computer or internet, then after I've only had it for about 3 years, and it goes out for 24 hours I go completely nuts, and go through internet withdrawls. Its almost as bad as drugs... I shouldn't be admitting that but I know I'm safe on TFP, I know I'm not the only one.

brandon11983 07-09-2003 02:34 PM

go outside amidst the beautiful people. internet keeps me cooped up too much. need interaction with humanity.

LittleOralAnnie 07-09-2003 02:46 PM

For a week once I was without my net service. The first two days I sat around moping and wishing it was still working, after I realized how stupid I was being and started being productive. I overhauled my place and did some indepth spring cleaning.

Getting outside and spending time outdoors is essential now. I took for granted all the times I could have been outside enjoying the sunshine but instead sat on my duff and played computer games, chatting and wasting precious time to have real fun as well as net fun. Now I spend equal time being on the computer and off.

punx1325 07-09-2003 11:16 PM

I couldn't survive. I went to blockbuster and grabbed an AOL disc...that was 2 weeks ago and I am still finding little traces of that shitty program.

The Atomic Boy 07-10-2003 12:21 AM

Listen to some music maybe read a book. Try to get out and walk around for a few hours and maybe tinker around in Photoshop. There was a time where I went nuts when my cable modem fritzed Id like to think I could live a couple days without it now.

spectre 07-10-2003 05:14 AM

I was without a computer for the last couple of days. It sucked, but I found a few other things to do during that time.

Fallon 07-10-2003 06:17 AM

I've finally pulled myself away from the net enough that I can live without it. A few months ago, I would have died. I'd probably go to some mall or something that had computer internet service so that i can get my fix. But now, I get out and enjoy life. Now, I'd spend even more time with my fiancee, go out swimming or play on my fiancee's jet ski.

gov135 07-10-2003 07:54 AM

Go outside.

isandro 07-10-2003 09:15 AM

I'd want to go out and ride my bicycle over to some foresty area and set myself down with my discman, a book and a big bottle of lemonade.
But in reality i'd need a screen in front of my face so i'd just watch tv or go to a friend's house- and watch tv

robbo59au 07-13-2003 10:41 PM

I guess being old enough to remember a world with no home computers, let alone the internet, if I find myself without access, the 'jump' to good ol' analog past-times is not really a problem :-)

DarkShatter 07-13-2003 11:04 PM

i read or run whenever i'm unable to get online

Stewie 07-14-2003 08:48 AM

Well for one thing I have to use my imagination instead of porn. I do homework or exercise in the meantime.

hambone 07-14-2003 08:09 PM

I would just hang out with friends and such. Been trying to do more of that anyway

Nefir 07-14-2003 08:20 PM

- Load up the some classic Lucas Arts games
- Finish reading Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomicon
- Grab the digicam and go on a walkabout
- Order some Chinese food and sit around watching DVDs and eating Beef Lo Mein
- Finish that half-finished case-modding project
- Work out them neglected muscles
