One Mans Trash.....

.... Another Mans Treasure.

I'm constantly finding things in recycle or re-use areas that I absolutly adore and or take home anyways and end up evetuanlly throwing out becuase it didn't fit or I only took it because it was free and really, have no use for it.

What are some things you've taken that have been previously discarded?

Today i went through the residence hall at school after everyone had moved out and sifted through their junk.

I got:

A few shirts, 2 pictures that I don't even know if I like yet, A blanket, a couple bags, some cd's, a whole bunch of magazines, some DVD's.

And you?

I ain't no hoarder!

Given that info, I buy shit! A lot of stupid shit! If it's $10.00 on craigslist or not more than $0.99 on eBay I either bid or contact the person to buy it. I believe I can tally at least $200.00 lost that way. And eBay is a motherf*&^%$#. When you want something and tell yourself you won't spend more than $2.00, it always winds up costing more!!

Oh my, yes. We collect things all the time.
Anything left on the side of the road is fair game.
As is anything left in or around a dumpster.

Not to mention the delightful free-pile culture of Berkeley's student Co-ops.
I love finding useful junk. It's like Christmas without the bills.

Bookshelves, dishes, coffee maker, dining room chairs, toaster, clothing...
Gives everything a fun little story.
"Remember when we found this perfectly good toaster in the dumpster outside CZ?"
"I still can't believe I got these Yoga pants at Hoyt's free pile 4 years ago."
"Our neighbors didn't realize what they were passing on when they tossed this great coffee table."

I also pull things out of the trash that aren't useful for me, clean them up to make sure they're in good condition, and pass them along to Goodwill.

Got a TV and a computer screen from a guy who was gonna throw it away. He had it sitting out by the road waiting for the garbage men to take it, so I asked him if I could have it. Kinda old, but working.

I found an old hard-sided suitcase in the dumpster that I plan on using for a table, or something else craft-like.
Found a picture in the shape of a bunch of grapes. I'm kinda leery of putting any drinks in it, but I could use it for a vase.

I also found a bunch of Marvel superhero stuffed toys I'm going to clean and give to my nephews.

So far I haven't hit the big score, but am ever hopeful. ;-P

I'm very anti pack rat. I spend money on what I like and need, but I don't get stupid and buy things because they are a good price. On the same breath, I can say that I don't collect anything, and I don't dig through anyone's trash. One man's trash is still trash to me.

I live in a college town. Many of the things around my house are items we've scavenged or things that have been given to us by friends leaving town. The latter has led to a lot of cool stuff: foosball table, awesome orange armchair (orange is one of our school colors), an old soda vending machine, bookshelves, coffee tables, a La-Z-boy recliner, and a strange assortment of hats.
