2010 census
We did. I never considered just not doing it. Maybe some people just throw it away? Just curious.

Well, that's $400 Alaska won't get from the federal government. Hopefully it will get used wisely somewhere else.

Thanks a lot. It costs the tax payers $60-70 per attempt to try to visit the addresses of the people who didn't respond, and they are required by law to make multiple attempts to contact you.

But that does put money in the pockets of people who would otherwise be unemployed.

so in essence, if people like BLK all sent in their forms, all these people chasing census forms would be out of a job living off welfare?
well done. a great favour at a personal sacrifice. i didnt get the form....but if i was american i'd fill it out record keeping is essential as statistical information for all sorts of future government policies.

Same here. Otherwise, it would've gotten buried under a pile of other paperwork and forgotten.

My household never received a form. And believe me, we pay attention to the mail - my mother works for USPS.

I was happy to fill it out. It was really easy and it made me feel like I matter in the greater scheme of things, here in the USA.
When I see that folks say they trashed it, I'm shocked & disappointed. I thought there were smarter people here on tfp!

Never got one. I recently moved so I assumed that was it.
Nothing came to S's address, either.

I responded simply that there was one person at my address, that I had achieved the age of majority, and that I claim "human" as my racial identity. I am waiting for the phone call or the knock on the door.
I saw an ad on TV that the government needs census data to plan infrastructure with roads as an example. That is the problem with government finding solutions. They should plan roads based on traffic patterns. That is far more likely to find the right answer.

I was confused as to why I got this, after spending 15 minutes answering questions over the phone. I guess it was late in 2009, I had gotten 2 questionaires that I ended up losing. I got a postcard saying someone was coming to the house to answer the questions. I ended up doing it on the phone with her. This one had questions about race, ethnicity, handicaps, etc. The 2010 census I more recently received was much simpler. Only wanted to know how many people were living here and our ages. I filled that one out right away so I would not lose it. If it helps my kids' schools, why not? It was so simple to fill out.

Yes. Filled mine out and my boyfriends too. It's silly to throw it away, since we're paying for it to be administered in the first place.

Yup. Me and the missus filled ours out together. It's our Constitutional duty as citizens, for one thing. And for another, if you don't participate in the process, you have no grounds to bitch about what goes wrong. We do a lot of bitching. So we better participate.

Yowza! Of course, this will conflict with another job I've got coming up - proofreading foreign-language election materials (as many hours as I can stand for a few weeks, at $12 per hour). Which will also conflict with some auction catalog research/writing that is coming up at the end of the month (15-25 hours at $30 per hour). It never rains, it pours. The Constitutional reason d'etre of the census is to determine congressional representation. That is based on population of citizens only. Race should play no role. All the other questions serve to support actions of the government that by their very nature bend or violate the Tenth Amendment. I do have a very childish (literal) view of the greatest social contract and political document in the history of the human race, and I am kind of proud of that.

I just haven't registered an address on anything in years...
I mean I have on tax forms for my jobs, but every time I have I moved shortly after and didn't update it with my employer. I owe every utility company in my state money, so I don't have my name on any of the bills that come to my apartment. I don't have a driver's license and have had the same I.D. card for like 6 years with same the old ass address on it. I'm not on my apartment's lease, as my credit history would have made this apartment a non-option. I just don't put my name on things and move around a lot. Makes me hard to find.
