I see this as especially true for what is often referred to as "youth culture," "popular culture," "alternative culture," and so forth - as these are the most virulently powerful sets of memes used to control and nullify potentially free-thinking individuals.

I missed this response previously, I'm sorry.

I would agree to a certain extent. I believe the relationship is more symbiotic than that. At least, I'm not one to believe that 'society' would be all that different without the influence of 'media.' Making me, I believe, much more cynical than you are, lol...I don't have much sentimentality about the basic grace and goodness of people.

Let the movie speak for itself.

Meh. It is marketing. Naughty trailer will get the kids. Adults will go by review and word of mouth.

I know I'm late, but I think the question is not so much if any one of us is bothered by the contents of the trailer (I think the majority holds that it is 'fine') but that some family-oriented groups find that they should be able to dictate what is produced for their children / tweens, and what they come to be exposed to, by way of censoring ('campaigning to') the source, in this case, the film studios, and their methods of production and distribution.

It's their right to complain as much as it is my right to constantly ignore them. And their claim that they can't be everywhere their child is, so they try and try all they can (however futilely) within the support of a coalition to safeguard the internet media to their specific whims of moral guidance.
