Broke a Veneer

I swear the universe is against me. I'm tempted to super glue it back on. I'm just hot hot enough to have Madonna teeth. I'm broke and have no dental insurance and I'm supposed to be celebrating my birthday this weekend. I do not like this day. Fortunately, I think I'm all cried out but my nerves are shot. Is there anybody out there?

Ohhh man, fix that now! No seriously every day you leave it the more harm it will cause and the harder it will be to rectify. Call any dental office and get quotes right NOW!!

It's 2 am. I don't think my dentist is in the office right now. I'm calling him in the morning. He's not the one who originally put them on though. That was in 1994. I know one of the best cosmetic dentists in the city, but they don't call him Dr. Goldfinger for nothin'. I'd have to sell a kidney to be able to afford him at this point in my life. And last time I checked, that wasn't legal.

I'm sure this seems like a silly thing to be upset about, but it's just one more thing on top of a pile of things that have gone wrong this week. Should I save the piece that broke off?

Erm, I think it only lasts a couple of hours but go ahead and place it in a bottle of milk till morning.

EDIT: Get a water bottle, fill it with just enough milk to immerse the piece and call first thing phonebook says they are open.

Even though it's a veneer and not a piece of real tooth. I still need to immerse it in milk?

Veneers are either porcelain or resin. There's no living tissue to preserve, and nothing to save.

Call around in the morning and get some quotes. It's my understanding that composite veneers are rather affordable, but don't last as long as the porcelain kind (and neither one lasts for ever -- wear and tear eventually take their toll).

Affordable, of course, is a relative term. This is probably going to cost a minimum of $300. Another option to inquire about is any sort of payment plan offered. You may be able to do it installments. I have no idea if such a thing is done in dentistry as a rule, as I've never had any cosmetic work done myself, but it can't hurt to ask.

Either way, I seriously doubt you'll be able to get it repaired in time for the weekend. I think you're just going to have to resolve yourself to celebrating your birthday with a broken tooth. Perspective, though -- there are definitely worse ways to go through it, and your friends or family aren't likely to care all that much.

Is the veneer actually broken or did it just fall of your "base" tooth? I have a couple of veneers and once or twice...seems like whenever I chew rib bones ....one has pulled off the tooth it was attached to < damn dangling participle!

I found that the tooth repair stuff you can buy at stores like Rite Aid, Thrift Drug, etc. holds pretty good. They sell a little tooth repair kit for a few bucks which has an adhesive putty, you thoroughly clean the veneer and put some putty on it and reattach it. Mine held for several days before I could get to the dentist for a more permanant fix.

Yeah, it actually broke in half. Thank God, I was able to get in touch with the dentist who put them on in 1994 and he took pity on me and saw me this morning to put a temporary composite veneer on. I am snaggle toothed no more! The down side is he informed me that ALL my veneers need to be replaced, which is going to cost a cool 15,000. Crap. Not to mention the 300 I shelled out today to get the one tooth fixed. But for now I'm just happy I can smile without feeling self-conscious.
