GMail wasn't initially invite-only because they wanted to be exclusive, it's because it was a beta product and they wanted to control the speed at which it grew. It's been years since you needed an invite to use GMail though, so I'd suggest trying it out

i use Gmail, for everything - expect a few websites i signed for (for these i use yahoo), mainly because it was the first real email account i ever had, and because i haven't found another free account where i like the interface and the features.

I have 6 or 7 addresses I think, all of them are through my two personal domains. Only two of them get heavy use though.
Have not touched hotmail in many many years, and never did have yahoo, gmail, etc.

Odd thing, I was at gamefaqs yesterday and they had a poll exactly like this one. Their results are quite different though.

Their current poll is "Have you ever thrown a party in your house while your parents were away?" I only go to GameFAQs once a year or so. I would guess that their primary demographic is 14 year old XBox Live Halo players. Like a cousin of mine. Who yells obscenities at other players through his headset microphone.

I actually enjoy a lot of their polls though.

Hi, I'm a Yahoo Mail user since high school. After reading all the raves about Gmail I decided to give it a try. I don't think I'm going back to Yahoo Mail anymore.

Other than dial-up, Sprint (now Embarq) was, and still is, the only game in town for high speed internet. I encountered the same situation at my previous residence, so I've been with Sprint/Embarq for eight years now.
I started with their email long before gmail appeared, but I'm slowly moving to gmail. Sprint provides terrible service in terms of reliability and is often extremely slow or down completely. Customer service is probably the worst of any large company I've ever been with. Sprint is the Devil Sprint sucks. I hate Sprint. In a future post, I'll explain how I really feel about Sprint. Were it only that I had access to a REAL ISP. dan |

I used to have an AOL account (I know, I know, but I was 12 and at that time AIM was the coolest thing ever) but before I left for college I switched to GMail and never looked back. The labs features are amazing! I also have a Yahoo account for spam and a Hotmail account for Xbox Live, but I never log into those unless it's absolutely necessary.

I use Hotmail, and have done since I first got a PC back in nineteen-hundred-and-spelling-mistake.
It does a simple job, it does it quite well, and it integrates with Outlook, which at the time I signed up was not available elsewhere, but from reading the thread seems to be possible now with other providers?

My emails are Embarq, Gmail and AOL. AOL is still my primary. I kept it after I went DSL because I liked the simplicity of the layout and they offered it for free and I wouldn't need to transfer a bunch of stuff. Looks like I'm the lone AOL on the poll.

I've been mostly happy with yahoo email, although I use a spam service called Spamarrest dot com that filters out all the junk to whatever level I desire. It also lets me create unlimited email aliases so that when I'm done with a particular online service or email address, anything addressed to that alias is filtered out as well.

I technically use Gmail but very rarely if ever access it through the Gmail portal or even mobile portal. It gets pushed to my phone...
My work e-mail unfortunately is controlled by some super-admins that don't want us to be able to access it via mobile devices sooooo it gets it's own stupid login.

Old signature just wasn't doing it for me anymore, so now I have this new one. It's equally as stupid but at least it looks really long. I'm probably just going to keep typing until I run out of things to babble about and see how many people actually read this. I once ran down a hill, fell down and hurt my elbow; my mom said I would be ok, she kissed it and made it all better. I've run out of things to say now, so if you have read this whole thing, congratulations you get a gold star! |

Same as everyone else, I use Gmail and work email. And I love Thunderbird, it's the only program that's succeeded in retrieving my work email for me, Office failed hard. Both are also web accessable, which is nice. I have an account with all the others for messengers, and I keep a hotmail as my sign up for spammy stuff address.

Not sure why you thought it was snobbish. It was a beta service, offering what was a ton of free space for the time, and they needed to make sure they weren't hammered with too many users at once. *shrug*

I used to use the email provided by my isp, but I started getting a lot of spam and there were many occasions where I either did not receive emails from people or they did not receive emails that I had sent. So, I have pretty much switched to hotmail and gmail. I use hotmail for general correspondence and I use gmail for my groups
Blessings! Duskwynd
