Choke was a cool book, I liked it. I just finished Lamb - it's a fictional account of Jesus (of course it's fictional) & his best friend Biff. It recounts all of their adventures.

Finished "The War of the Flowers" by Tad Williams last week - good fantasy book, short for Williams it is a complete story in one reasonably long book.
Now I am reading "Neuromancer" by William Gibson and "Guns, Germs & Steel, The Fates of Human Societies" by Jared Diamond. Both are fantastic. Cheers to everyone reading Herman Hesse and if you have nevery read anything by Neil Gaiman, you should. |

Over the weekend I read Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising" and "The Cardinal of the Kremlin". I really enjoy his books. Lots of good dialog, fun plot twists and exciting action. I'll have to hit a used book store or goodwill some time later this week to get the rest of his stuff. :)

A Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge. Sprawling and incredibly imaginative sci-fi. A Deepness in the Sky, which came out recently, is a prequel and I plan to dig into that next.

Last (non-academic) book I read was "Cryptonomicon" by Neal Stephenson. Excellent, excellent novel. I think I read it cover-to-cover several times before I managed to understand most of it.

"The Great Dragon's Fleas" by Tim Ward It's a great travel book/search for spirituality (primarily Buddist leaning). Also reading "Water", forgot the author. Book about the state of the world's water supply. |
Now I am reading A Walk in the Woods, by Bill Bryson. I have read about half of it in the past two days, and it is one of the most hilarious books I have ever read.

just finished "survival in auschwitz" -- fantastic book about someone who lived through it. Now I'm reading Darwin's Dangerous Idea by Daniel Dennett, it's about the theory of evolution and tons of misconceptions that people have about it.
