um....what's T9? i have a motorola razor.

T9 is a dictionary feature that can be activated by hitting the hash/pound/number sighn (#) and holding it down whilst writing a text message. Once this feature is invoked it will attempt to guess everything you write by means of autocomplete. Not only will it complete words for you but it will also let you add words that you do not feel like having to type out completely like peoples names and long words like later=l8tr.
have fun. |

Well I think texting is a waste of time. I don't understand why people text all the time. The thing that really sucks is if you do not have texting on your plan people can still text you and it will end up costing you about 25cents a text. I had a friend that would not stop texting me, even after I told her that it was really costing me money. After a really big bill I had to get texting on my phone just so my best friend could text me.
I know that some people say that texting helps them multitask and I don't really know why. I even know someone that texts when she drives, now that is just stupid. I think driving while talking on the phone is stupid, now there are people out there texting while driving. |

I'm highly skeptical of anyone who claims that texting while driving is not a distraction.
The whole medium is a bit too detached and impersonal for my tastes. It does have it's uses in sending short, discrete messages; but I also reject it on principle due to what I consider to be abusive practices by the carriers. Cellular service in Canada is a bit of a joke across the board. The things are too damn useful to discard entirely, but I try to limit my level of participation. |

I witnessed an incident last night that made me think about this thread.
I was using a public restroom, and there was a guy standing a couple of slots down from me. His phone rang. In his haste to find and answer his phone, he seemed to have dropped the business at hand, because suddenly there was the sound of liquid hitting the floor, and I'm assuming by the stream of profanity that followed, his shoes were also involved. Once the actual phone call proceeded, which I could hear loud and clear in our reverberous surroundings, it was clear that the extent of the discussion was "Where you at?". Had it been a text message, he could have finished the job, washed his hands, and then responded to this urgent missive. Whether it was the level of intelligence of this gentleman, or the immediacy of answering a phone call, that caused demise, it definitely made me think about this thread. |
I text because............................................oh alright I don't text at all because I just don't get it. Or maybe I do. Texting is for young folks and no one would call me young. If Bobby texts then I had better get up to speed.

My son was in the hospital over the weekend. I was a damn lot easier than calling 50 people and keeping them updated.
He was also able to update his Facebook and Myspace pages with my iPhone from his hospital bed. |
i prefer talking than txting...

Last night, I picked up my grandmother at the airport after a long stay with my uncle and his family in North Carolina. My aunt had asked me to let her know when my grandmother got home, but it was 9 p.m. here and thus 12 a.m. in North Carolina. So as not to wake her up but also get the message to her (she doesn't really use email), I sent her a text message. I'm sure her phone beeped once and that was it, allowing her to sleep but delivering the message first thing in the morning.
Texting is probably overused, but there are times when texting seems perfectly reasonable. |
What can I say, I'm guilty of being a serial texter. With a qwerty keyboard, an unlimited everything prepaid plan, and friends that prefer the writen word over a spoken one, I text, send picture messages, send emails, all from my cell phone (wow, that sounds like a comercial). I'm currently a bus and subway rider, so my conversations are private this way. Once I start driving again, I'll switch on my headset, and actually talk to people again :)
One pet peeve I have is when on a phone call with someone, I can hear them texting DURING THE CALL! Arg. |
i hate texting i don't even have it on my phone i see these people texting on the train 24/7 its like a drug addiction they can't stop

I don't do voice mail, at all. Too hard to hold the phone + pen + paper and write as fast as some people speak. Then I often have to repeat the danged message because someone farted or a loud truck drove by or a kid yelled, and I missed part of the message. I prefer a text that I can already read. Once in a while someone will complain that my voicemail box is full. Yes, I know it is. If I don't clear it out, people can't leave me messages that I forget to check. Send me a text. |
