Anyone in NZ want a ring?

Quote:

WELLINGTON (Reuters) - A New Zealand man, spurned by the woman of his dreams, has come up with a novel way of disposing of the diamond engagement ring he bought her -- a treasure hunt.

Anyone keen to pick up the ring, valued at NZ$5,000 ($3,268), will need to be in New Zealand's capital city, Wellington, on Saturday to join the hunt, the Dominion Post newspaper reported.

"I met this girl I thought was pretty cool, bought a ring, turns out she wasn't as keen," Anthony Gardiner, a 29-year-old call-center worker, told the Dominion Post.

Clues to the ring's whereabouts will start being posted on social networking site Twitter (http:/twitter.com/donoogle_com) at 8 a.m. local time on Saturday (2000 GMT on Friday).

Gardiner says he will keep posting clues, and if the ring is not found by the end of the day, "my clues will suddenly change into directions."

Having bought the ring in Hong Kong, he couldn't return it, and didn't want to sell it, so he hit upon the treasure hunt.

Hanging on to it in the hopes of finding a willing recipient is also not an option. "Obviously, it's been a pretty unlucky ring for me," Gardiner said, adding he hoped it would be found by somebody who has "found a cool chick and who wants to give them something they normally wouldn't be able to afford."
Interesting idea. I feel sorry the guys interest wasn't interested. But sounds like he's got a good attitude about the situation. Doesn't want the ring, isn't hoping/looking for a hook-up. Just doesn't want the ring for personal reasons, which are understandable. Plus wants someone else to be happy.

Wish I were in NZ, I like treasure hunt type stuff. Not that I have any want or need for ring. But if nothing else it would be a good conversation piece.

Thoughts?

I tried that. My accountant is really into it. But down here it's not that popular. So I ended up placing several and finding a few. Got to the point where I was down to finding one's I'd left or ones I just gave up on.

You should! If I knew anyone living there I let them know. But chances are it's a well known thing down there.

This reminds me, Kiss FM in Kenya was giving away $1K USD in cash in a detergent tin somewhere down in Nairobi!! There was a MASSIVE scramble and for 4 weeks no one else was listening to anything else. Even the teachers in school devoted their free time to gathering vlues. There used to be several sessions of people calling in and a series of "Hot, hot ... hot ... lukewarm, Cold, frozen, other side of hell, warming up, breaking ice, warmer, warmer, hot hot ..."

It was fuckin' annoying!!

I was following this thread okay up until the last 4 or so posts. I fail to detect any sarcasm and only anger. May this be because I just woke up and my senses are still foggy? Plus its raining outside and it has not rained here in close to a month or so.

Anywho I hope some deserving lad finds that ring and not some rich tycoon of some sort (not sure what kind of tycoons hang out in NZ)

Yeah, you need some coffee, blahblah :)

CinnamonGirl 06-06-2009 11:16 AM

No anger here. I actually think this is kind of a fun idea. I was just in shock that people really spend that much...

Xerxys 06-06-2009 12:46 PM

Yeah, some dude who worked for a butchery found the cash in a detergent tin at some back of somewhere ... turns out he wasn't even looking for it. Rumor has it that they were in 1's!!

Tully Mars 06-06-2009 01:31 PM

Cash? Thought folks were looking for a ring? Who the hell needs cash?

The OP of this thread must be a real winner, can't even get the most basic of info right, moron.

Psst... you need more sleep, coffee or something Mr. Blah.

I've been to Wellington, it is a nice city. It would be fun to take part in this search.
