Nightstand?
So, here's the non-weapon version...
What's on your nightstand? http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3607/...83025ffeb9.jpg - English Spot named Cinnabunny - Ornamental box - Coaster (behind the bunny) - Typee by Herman Melville - Catholic Book of Prayers (small book under Typee) - Roman Missal - La Chute Albert Camus This thread was prompted by the mischevious actions of my fuzzy friend and the presence of another thread by a similar title in the weapons forum. Rather than hijaking that thread with a fuzzy bunny that I'm sure they'd find adorable, I decided to start a new thread. I tend to keep books on my nightstand that I enjoy reading here and there, or things I fully intend to read. I rarely touch the missal, honestly, but Typee is my current fun-book. I've been reading and re-reading La Chute for five years now, and I still can't figure out what it's really about. |

* Far too many books (I'm usually reading 3 or 4 at once): *Wild Fire (which i just picked up from the library 2 days ago (and is actually due back later than the other library books I have out - but I'm reading it now, cause it's a quick read, I'll be done it today.) *The Day Watch - library book (Book two of a 4 book series by Sergei Lukyaneko about vampires and sorcerers in Moscow - great stuff) *The Lark in the Clear Air by Dennis T. Patrick Sears, (which I'm reading aloud to my sweetie) *Rascal by Sterling North *River of Gods by Ian MacDonald (also a library book) *Visual Chronicles by Linda Woods (library book about creating art journals) *Adobe InDesign CS3 One on One (library book - starting to see a trend?) *Adobe Creative Suite CS4 Classroom in a Book *the latest issue of Web Designer which came yesterday *the latest issue of The Coast, our local alternative rag *the remotes for the TV/DVD, cause we watch a LOT of movies in bed *napkin for when we eat dinner in bed, while watching movies or tv series on DVD, which is just about daily (right now we are watching Carnivale, next we are starting Deadwood (underneath the napkin are my nail clippers) *eyeglass cloth for cleaning my glasses *coaster for putting my drink on *the drawers are empty except for a book about erotic massage & my spare glasses (the sex toys are in a box under the bed!!!) |

I've been staying in a guesthouse for the past couple of weeks because I'm working in Johannesburg. These are all the things I was carrying on my person everyday.

Too lazy to take pictures (plus my room is a mess), but I actually have two night stands. The one next to my side of the bed has lotion, my glasses (when I'm asleep), Carmex, and a couple of books. The other stand has a "lotion dispenser" (which actually has lube in it) and a small box with condoms in it. Don't like to interrupt the moment to get supplies. ;-)

Right now I have a small lamp, 2 ornamental boxes containing my earrings, a couple of necklaces, and $13, a box of Kleenex, a pair of bright pink earplugs, and a copy of Angels and Demons. There is a large peacock feather right behind the nightstand.
The drawers of my nightstand are filled with various things. |
I don't have a nightstand....
|
Well, its more of a small dresser than a nightstand buuut:
A cd/cassette/radio thing, a surge protector strip. a large computer case fan w/ power plug, a Lemax Spooky Town Gothic Ruin sitting on top of a 10 gallon (i think) fish tank containing a firebelly toad and a female bahama anole. http://www.frightcatalog.com/i/360x360/1024004.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1415/...b9addf07ea.jpg http://gallery.pethobbyist.com/data/...t-Dot3-med.JPG |
On my nightstand: a lamp, my Sigg Hello Kitty water bottle, a box of wet wipes, a box of Kleenex, massage oil, my "cold kit" (an empty baby wipes container now filled with all the things one would need to battle a cold), my basic first aid kit, my manicure/pedicure kit, and right now, the battery charger for my camera. Once it charges, I'll be back with a photo.
On his nightstand is the little wooden box we keep our condoms, lube, and naughty dice in. It looks so innocuous that though many people have been in our bedroom, none have ever guessed its true purpose. :D |
I have two. One has a lamp and clock. The other has a tray for my wallet and watch plus three remotes- TV, Fan, A/C.

Baraka - nightstands are over-rated. One day when you're a wealthy editor, you'll have a nightstand too. I wouldn't have a nightstand if we didn't find it in a discard pile outside a dorm.
Sabrina - I like the lotion bottle lube dispenser bottle idea. Seems incredibly handy. Grasshopper - I like your new name. Jewlery on a nightstand is a nice idea. Healer - fascinating seeing the contents of your nightstand as you travel. Mine would be quite different as well. ObieX - those are some adorable pets! Glad I'm not the only one with a critter by their bed. Snowy - Agreed, wooden boxes are great. People assume they're only around for looks. Tully - how interesting, a tray for your wallet? Is it a small tray or a large breakfast-in-bed-type tray? |

On our nightstand we have a vase with some flowers in it (artificial flowers), a picture - and basically that's it. Whatever more we put on the nightstand is gone when we get up. The TwinsOfDestruction(tm) make sure there's no other interresting items left when they wake up. |
I'm not computer literate enough to be able to take a picture and post said picture in a thread.
But, my nightstand is actually an antique telephone table. It was my grandmother's and I cherish it. Lamp. Bottle of Tylenol Rapid Release and P.M. Chapstick medicated. A photo of my husband and myself at the first "dress up" event we attended 17 years ago. 2 hair bands. A Waterford crystal dish that I toss my rings/earrings into. An empty water bottle. (I guess I should pick that up) A small stuffed panda bear that my husband brought me from a trip to New York, while he was there I told him I missed him and I was a sad panda because he wasn't at home. 12 inch Maglite flashlight. Clock. Ok, and there is a little dust! Yikes . . . |

I want to ask, is your nightstand an original? What year? Or is it a reproduction? There are some small imperfections on the face, but the feet don't show any wear. We have many antiques, so I'm curious. It's very hard to tell from a photo. My guess is a reproduction but I'm no expert. |
I haven't read The Gate House, but I have read Gold Coast, not one of my favourite DeMille's. Have you read The Talbot Odyssey? That's a page turner! the nightstand is an original, belonged to my BiL's parents. But aside from that couldn't say much more.
|
I don't have room for a nightstand yet, but when I get one, I'll have some books, right now I just finished Abduction by Robin Cook. Other than that, whatever sexual things, a lamp, my cell phone, and probably my smoking materials.
|
I don't know if this belongs in this thread or the other, but at various times this is on my nightstand:

The closest thing to a night stand I have is a wall shelf at the foot of my bed that has my alarm clock, a heart shaped stone, bamboo plant, Mana potion and lamp.

Hmmm, hold on... I'll have to make a special joke post for the weapons/non-weapons thread. Heh. This is going to take a while. |
