What do you think of people have stickers plastered all over their cars?

What do you of people who plaster stickers all over their cars promoting their religion, political stance, abortion stance, favorite bands, etc.. ?

Personally I think these people are insecure but they have a right to do it nonetheless. Plus I want to smack them over the head.

Daval 07-03-2003 04:15 AM

i think its really tacky and cheesy personally. Usually gives you a very good indication of the persons socio-economic class.

Bill O'Rights 07-03-2003 04:33 AM

I think that a lot of it may have to with the need to identify to a group, or a sense of belonging. It's easier, though, to put a bumper sticker on your car that says "I'm Pro-Life And I Vote" than it is to actually become active within an established organization. Don't tell me, I couldn't care less, tell your congressman. Now, granted some people are going to be extremely passionate (some, borderline fanatical) about a certain position and "wear their heart on their sleeve", as it were.

Or, I could be fulla crap and they're just trying to cover rust spots.

Personally, I paid too much for my car to be plastering stickers all over it.

troit 07-03-2003 05:04 AM

No bumper stickers on my car... just my personal preference. Hey if you want to do it ... fine but just like Bill O'RIghts said -- We all paid too much for our cars to be plastering them with plastic stickers. I mean if your going to do t hat then why not take a can of spray paint and throw your favorite logo on there?

Cynthetiq 07-03-2003 07:23 AM

I don't get paid to advertise any groups, brands, items, people, thoughts, or sayings, which is why I don't put anything on my said car. The fact that it already has an auto manufacturer logo and model is plenty enough as it is.

oblar 07-03-2003 08:31 AM

I actually pulled off the car lot's emlem off my car and placed a darwin fish in its place.

it lasted about 1.5 years before it fell off *sniff* I will miss you darwin fish! He now rests in my car.

as far as stickers. I don't mind it too much. It does remind me of the type of person they are and it is easy to spot. I guess the only ones I really don't care much for are the old political "Vote for me" stickers.. mainly I wonder "why?" in a few months it is old news..

i guess to me it is all their choice.. with my car type i couldnt picture me putting a bunch of stickers on my precious car, although i might see if i can revive the darwin fish.

Darkblack 07-03-2003 08:50 AM

I have two cars. On the Volvo I have A Darwin fish, a save Tibet sticker, and a “My kid is an honor student at so and so middle school” (my wife drives this car mostly).

On my firebird I have a Darwin fish and a “I vote for the environment sticker”. My wife also put this on but I don’t mind it. Only time I mind it is when I got the AC on. I feel like a hypocrite.

rockogre 07-03-2003 09:44 AM

I'm sorry but I automatically think "shallow part of the gene pool" whenever I see a car like that.

I can't help it.

I'm bad.

I know it.

butthead 07-03-2003 11:07 AM

I don't really think much about it. Maybe I might think that the persons vehicle seems expressive, but it seems insufficient for me to make any judgment on the person at all.

krwlz 07-03-2003 11:13 AM

I only have 2 stickers.....Both the NRA, one in each back window. I guess I am devoted, thats all. Got a hat too...wear it every day.

Other then that, I dont have any desire to advocate any group.

World's King 07-03-2003 11:38 AM

People do it because they think they look cool.

It's just that simple.

same. different people express themselves in different ways, no reason why I should criticise them for their choice of method.

I do find the political stickers humorous though when I see stickers for Bob Dole or Al Gore for president while driving :)

lafemmefatale 07-03-2003 11:59 AM

i like it.
primarily because some ppl just fuss over their car so much so that it stays the way it's bought...stickers etc. make a personal statement about the person, rather than just another mode of transportation. Especially when the stickers have a kind of novelty value like concert stickers or a sticker from your gr. 1 teacher that you had a crush on as a lil toddler........things like that are very cute, kinda like giving you a perspective on that eprson's life...but then again i'm a bit voyeuristic ^-^ jk

Psivage 07-03-2003 12:20 PM

I think they are rednecks.

lurkette 07-03-2003 12:56 PM

I enjoy reading them and making up stories about the people in the vehicles. I once saw a beat up pickup with a "Society for Creative Anachronisms" sticker and an "I love my wife - Promise Keepers" sticker. I thought that this guy must either be really cool or a real loser, either way I wanted to meet him just to find out.

I personally don't like to have any on my car - it marks you and defines you based on something that can fit on a 3x10 piece of plastic. I don't really want that to be peoples' first impression of me.

paddyjoe 07-03-2003 01:16 PM

I passed a van the other day that had a least four stickers, with all of them saying, `Please don't tailgate...showdogs on board.

I suppose it was good they reminded me, cause I'd be right up their ass if it was only the family mutt.

I cured my road rage tendencies years ago, but damn I had the urge to run this idiot into a ditch just for general purposes.

Halx 07-03-2003 01:36 PM

I was really surprised when I visited the East coast to see that the car dealerships over there put their names on the cars they sell. I was pretty put off about it. Hell, the guy who tinted my windows slipped a tiny sticker on one of my side back windows and I wasn't too thrilled.

The only form of expression I have on my car is my license plate frame, which reads, "Pedestrian Polo, score: 8,730,892" (actually the count is a little different but I cannot remember it exactly, I just wrote down some random #'s for the engraver to work with)

The stickers on a person's car dont define them a whole lot and I think it's stupid to pass judgement on that bit alone. I mean, I do think certain things when I see certain logos, but they are nothing more than passing throughts.

Fishies: Probably a family person, most likely a Jesus freak
Political stickers: impulsive
Humorous stickers: haha, that car is funny
Girly Logos (roxy, hearts, g.k.a.): if I speed up, I'll probably find a female in the driver's seat
Ricer logos (darkside, nos): my stock accord could probably still beat their ass
rainbows: they must get rear-ended a lot *rimshot*

jets 07-03-2003 01:49 PM

Yeah I the last time I bought a car I specifically told them I don't want any sticker with the dealers name on the car. I mean, what did I just buy? A billboard? So instead of a sticker they added a license plate frame with their name. I was gonna throw it at him.

I think stickers are taCKY on a car...once I saw a frikkkken HUGE ferrari logo on the back of an olsmobile intrigue!!!!!!!!!!! W T F?

I have none, don't waant none.

izzzzy 07-03-2003 02:32 PM

this thread reminds me of an eagles song "out on the road today i saw a deadhead sticker on a cadillac....." i dont mind them i even agree with some but on othe road i like to blend in and not draw any unwanted attention.

The_Dude 07-03-2003 03:04 PM

there's a limit, two at max.

over that, they look like trailor trash to me.

MacGnG 07-03-2003 03:10 PM

eh its their car no matter how tacky it looks :p

uncle phil 07-03-2003 03:16 PM

rock said exactly what i wanted to say...thanks, rock...

LittleOralAnnie 07-03-2003 05:48 PM

Some of them are really amusing to read. Personally I'd never put any stickers on my vehicle unless it an old beater. Something has to keep the rust in place ;)

spectre 07-03-2003 05:50 PM

I really don't care what anyone puts on their cars. I wouldn't want to put one on my car though.

vermin 07-03-2003 06:01 PM

I can think of better ways to lower the resale value of my car.
Buying a Geo Metro was just the first step...

WhoaitsZ 07-03-2003 06:48 PM

hmm. if anyone judged my character due to a bumper sticker or twenty I'd add one more that says 'fuck off you shallow bastard'

i mean come on. its a sticker.

i think they look kind of tacky, but i'm all for more expression. at least they care enough to show their thoughts.

MikeyChalupa 07-03-2003 07:57 PM

I have small window clings of my 3 favorite sports teams in the back window of my Jeep: Yankees, Rangers, Bills. Nothing more needed. It's mainly so that even though I have Virginia plates on my vehicle, when I go back home to New York to visit, hopefully the clings will convince fellow New Yorkers that I'm not a redneck tourist, I'm one of them. My driving might also do the trick.

I'm getting tired of seeing Calvin piss on things. It was funny for about ten minutes five years ago, now it's just plain stupid. Every now and then I'll see a pretty clever bumper sticker, but about 95% of them are just plain stupid.

Just had a thought: Aren't our sigs like our TFP bumper stickers?

Thank you, I mean really! Stickers? sheesh! maybe those people have sticker obsessions! I do, but I don't have too many stickers on my car. Just a Ralph (simpsons) decal, TOOL, System of a Down, and a Betty Paige sticker on and in my car. I just have a big collection that I don't want to use yet! The only ones that I hate are the annoying chicks that are too cute by putting 99% angel, or princess or annoying cutsie shit like that.

boredjerk 07-04-2003 12:34 AM

needless attention grabbers. I have one sticker on my back bumper covering a bad spot on the bumper. It says "I Love Wisconsin Cheese."

A couple months ago I spent $20 on five custom pink stickers that say "I take it in the butt!" Thought it'd be funny to stick 'em on other peoples' cars. Only used one so far.

Slims 07-04-2003 12:40 AM

Too bad they always forget to put one over their mouths too.

I think it makes a car look seriously trashy.

zfleebin 07-04-2003 01:12 PM

I cant find any sticker that I would even want to put on my truck. I can see a vehicles stickers as being a way to express oneself on the road but I still think its tacky looking.

bender 07-04-2003 02:02 PM

I think that its a cry for attention from people who are not smart enough to say something intel. themselves

Mr Scorcex 07-04-2003 05:06 PM

Ouch. A lot of people bashing this. I figure as long as the car is already junky it doesn't matter. I have a '90 saab that already had 200,000 + miles on it and sucks so I don't have a problem putting a couple stickers on it.

As an afterthought, I would also like to add that one should not judge a book by its cover.

Phaenx 07-04-2003 05:24 PM

The jesus fish thing (which I think is actually supposed to be two moons crossing each other?) is getting old. Also, political statements is a good way to get your car keyed.

Fremen 07-04-2003 05:34 PM

You people have cars? :D

Sometimes they hold the car together.

Y'all worry too much about other people, it seems.

I'm still waiting for my flying car, then watch out! The flying tacky-mobile. ;)

A little judgemental, but what I see being totally accurate. If I ever was going to put something it would be one if those "I brake for tailgaters" , but just slowing down works and keeps me from putting it on.

bermuDa 07-04-2003 06:51 PM

right now i only have one sticker on my car. it says "if a stranger offers you a piece of candy, take two!"

BlueBongo 07-04-2003 07:23 PM

I have no stickers on my car.. and I even peeled off the dealer's little sticker type thing they put on there. I agree that because I'm payin' out the arse.. I love my car just the way it is.

And I'll kick the ass of anyone that defames or damages me car. I was at school a few weeks ago when someone used rubber cement to put PETA crap all over my car and the car's of my fellow class mates late at night. Took at least 20 minutes to get all of the crap off. DON'T TOUCH MY CAR BASTARDS!!(@*!&*(@!!

Ok, I'm done now.

glasscutter43 07-04-2003 08:24 PM

I like the stickers that say "Please don't tailgate" and you can't read it until you are six feet from their bumper.
